We are in for 4 or 5 midfielders, While this guy looks good, it's time for us to set deadlines and move on.   It might happen but I'm doubtful, he just doesnt seem interested.

Meh it's fairly obvious that this guy doesn't and never has wanted to sign for us.

I think I said about 20 pages ago we were just a pawn in Caen's game to get Marseille to up their offer.

I don't think we were to be honest - we just offered a lot more than them and they naturally didn't want to accept Marseille's offer when ours was on the table. It's just a shame that he doesn't want to come here and Caen would prefer to hold on to him than accept Marseille's offer.

I'm sure Caen don't care where the money comes from as long as they get the best price, if anything they'd probably prefer to sell to Leicester as Marseille has been "disrespectful with their offer".

God knows what's going on with this, my guess would be the deal is dead and just hasn't been reported.

Either that or Caen and Kante are having a blinking contest with each other.

This guy needs to realise very quickly that he doesn't have the draw yet of a Cambiasso.

We have already bid for others and have probably decided to plan on attracting alternatives anyway.

As per a previous poster. This bellend needs to decide asap one way or the other.

Hi there, I'm a Caen fan and I'm reading this thread for several days now.

As Malherbe fans, we all suspect now that Foxes didn't really make a solid offer. Maybe there has been talks with the club, but our Director of Football Xavier Gravelaine used this potential offer to raise the Marseille offer, who was in contact with the player for months, even when we were in Ligue 2.

I think the arrival of Ranieri cancelled the potential offer, as a new manager wants to go with his own prospects and known players to build his team.

Well my username is a long story. But I could have picked Jean-Louis Marcel to sound more "cliché" :)

To talk more about Kanté, he is a special player, on and off the pitch. You saw vids of his skills and tackling statistics, so you know him on the pitch, he's easily the best player we saw here in 10 years (our other good players were Yohan Gouffran, Youssef El Arabi or M'baye Niang so don't expect a Ballon d'Or). But off the pitch is an ordinary guy, very shy. He'll never spend millions in cars, big houses or fancy clothes. Last year he was coming everyday to the club by feet, with his backpack. You'll never hear him on interview or shows, he never talks to the ref or opponents, he just plays football. He is a "refreshing" player (don't know if it has the same meaning in english)

To sum up, we would be pleased to keep him one more season (we could because we already sell one of our young prospects to Monaco) but if we don't we'd rather see him in another league than ours :) And the Premier League is a big challenge for him.

So come on, make an offer !

I really want him to join us but it isn't looking like it will happen unless Mendy wants to stay in France.

Thanks for the post, it at's always good to hear the fan of that club comment on the quality of the player they may sell.

I'll be annoyed if we never had any interest in Kante or we've lost interest.

I know stats aren't everything but I went on squawka and compared:

Kante

Mendy

Matic

Busquets

Cattermole

Kante & Mendy as they're our supposed transfer targets.

Matic & Busquets as they're supposed to be the best two defensive CM's in the world.

Cattermole as he's a PL player who is playing in a similar quality team to Leicester.

I put in the stats I thought would be key to a defensive CM:

Tackles won

Interceptions

Key Passes

Pass Completion

As you can see Kante win the tackles and interceptions category hands down. I also put pass completion and key passes. Although Kante was lowest on pass completion  he was also highest on key passes. He tries to do more with the ball when he has it so his pass completion would obviously be lower. Any CM can look great on passing stats if all he ever does is play the simple square or backwards ball so it can be misleading.

I know stats aren't everything but Kante looks like he's a player who should be in demand.

Smacks of a Nigel Pearson type of signing.

Pascal without being bias who do you think is better out of Mendy or Kante & why?

As I said I'm a Caen fan therefor I'm not interested in other teams :) But Mendy seems to be a decent young player.

But to me Kanté was in the top 3 "box to box" midfielders of the last Ligue 1 season (Verratti being from another planet)
