Grand Seiko is an amazing watch. Very classy. I'd be worried about it getting damaged or stolen. Servicing cost must be eye watering :o

Thanks, luckily watch thief’s wouldn’t know what a grand seiko is if it slapped them in the face, so I’m good 🤣it’s the cherry blossom one and the details are incredible in different lights. I’m dreading servicing it tbh il worry about that in a few years!

Bought a San Martin off AliExpress last year as a beater. 9015 Miyota mechanism, I'm having a very difficult time regulating it to keep it losing minutes a day. It was -/+30 seconds a day before I tried to tinker it myself, but after multiple goes it's running 4 or so minutes a day fast, can't get a grip of it.

Point of it was a nice cheap mech I could bash about and don't fancy paying loads to get it sorted. Nice looking thing though - SN0150

I’m tempted by a Chinese tourbillon - you can get one for about £400 🤣 it is just a roll of the dice wether it would last for a few years

What makes a Grand Seiko worth up to £12'000? They don't look particularly nice or stylish, but rather brute for my liking.

How much?! Available new for half of that. Still a lot of money for a watch but it's for life and can be passed down. I think it looks elegant with a classic design. Proper dress watch.

The time it takes to make the watch and the detail/precision that goes into it, and the Zaratsu hand polishing. Swiss movement which are the best etc

Most watch companies make a big mark up as well, some 6/7 times cost price

Christopher Ward UK brand I am a big fan of and have a watch of theirs, they have a rule where the price is always 3 x the cost to make the watch

I'm not sure they are brute looking but each to their own, i would associate breitling, some of the coloured dial submariners as more brute and flash

Up to 40% of Swiss movements can legally be made in China (or other places) nowadays. Not that it's a problem but they like to play on the 'Swiss made' logo. They are mass produced and very overpriced.

Grand Seiko is exclusively Japanese, I think.

I believe so yes, I would like to visit Japan one day and get a bargain grand seiko  - I'm sure they are about £2000 less than what they retail for on Chrono and the UK

I'm a fan of the new yellow dial Tudor have just released, quite a fun looking watch

It's nice with the black, my favourite yellow face watch is the Citizen Tsuyosa, my go to for all of summer and take on holiday. Really good watch for £300 and one of my favourites - anything Citizen is really good though.

Sounds like a great trip. Might be some tax implications?

It’s all about personal opinion. They are very nice I think and you would get one much cheaper than that.

I only have two watches these days that I alternate between, a Seiko and a Citizen. Both beautiful and if they keep going for another 30 years they will hopefully see me out.

My husband has a fancy Citizen that supposedly adjusts to the time zone you're in, it's never worked properly, but thankfully he loves the navy blue Casio G Shock that I bought him last year and he wears nothing else since.

My wife's Citizen eco drive is now 17 years old and still going strong eventhough she recently jumped in a swimming pool wearing it! No batteries and no servicing required.

Is yours an eco drive? Has it needed any work done to it in 30 years?

Yes it's an eco drive. Fingers crossed for another 17 years at least for mine too!

Close, but more of an orange…. I do like a bit of colour, particularly in the summer

This is an early 80’s Seiko from Japan…. Has the Kamji day date…. I wear it a lot
