ScouseFox Posted 15 July 2015 Share Posted 15 July 2015 i also have a direct line from my desk to the printer and a wheely chair so if the manager is out the office i pretend to be a curling stone and push myself off my desk, on my chair, and see how close i can get to the printer without hitting it. also sometimes whilst in motion rotate 180 degrees so i am facing the printer to collect my papers as they come out. if it wasn't for this game i have invented and play by myself i'd probably hate work. Jattdogg Posted 15 July 2015 Share Posted 15 July 2015 When im not unemployed i work in IT typically doing BA/SA type work. Ive seen enough in the last 12 years of IT not to give a shite about it because your job is always on the line for outsourcing or being cut for reorganization reasons . That said ive seen the same in the accounting field lately too. I typically enjoy the work i do but office politics always find a way to rear their ugly heads. I know its dependent on which company you land at as well. Here in canada theres a shortage of qualified tradesmen. Always something to consider if your good at that sort of thing. Some firm tried to persuade me to move to NZ a few years ago, whether I'd have actually got it I don't know. The time wasn't right for me then, I do sometimes think about it though. Anyways worked for a few years at general electric when the canadian branch sponsored him to montreal. Thats how i ended up here. He always told me to avoid trades and go to university. Now we need tradesmen

There is a shortage over here too, I think the government need to get more young people into a trade and push it how they do with Uni. After a 3 years aprentership or even 1 or 2 years on a site you could be earning a minimum day rate of 100 quid, easy work and flexible hours. ScouseFox Posted 15 July 2015 Share Posted 15 July 2015 Are you lot motivated by money when working, or other things such as social etc? i like getting paid more but i think if i could choose i'd spend my whole life getting minimum wage in william hill. but gotta think of the future innit, build a career start off doin some boring shit, get qualified and then get a job earning major whack for a few years. then you can find a more fun job for less pay if you wanna. that's my life plan anyway. here's hoping. Jattdogg Posted 15 July 2015 Share Posted 15 July 2015 The problem in canada was that people like my dad came here with proper training. They learned from the old guys all the tricks of the trade. When my dad got here over time he saw how they didnt have the same mentality. It was all about the bottom line. if an apprentice came in and made 1 mistake they were fired on the spot. Mistakes cost time and money. Now all these same companies are seeing the likes of my dads generation retiring and nobody has a skillset close enough to do complex work. Coupled with everyone chosing uni over trades and bam let open the flood gates to fillipino and polish workers. Still not solving the problem! I could be a writer with a growing reputation, I could be the ticket man at Fulham Broadway station......I could be the catalyst that sparks the revolution, I could be an inmate in a long-term institution.... What a waste!
