Dan Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 That's madness and Dortmund don't even have a weak side out. One Dortmund goal though and they'll probably go through still. They can stick a few past these at home I'd imagine.
Nalis Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 Hope Cashpoint SCR get their arses handed to them tonight, fvcking sellouts...
Corky Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 Midtjylland seem to be attired in an old Charlton away kit. 1-0 up though so not playing like Charlton.

Wymsey Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 Not quite sure why Man Utd want Mane. Can be sloppy with passing and snatches his shots.
Dan Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 ****ing hell. Embarrassing. Did they dominate and were unlucky? Or did they show the usual contempt clubs from England show to the Europa?
Corky Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Don't think Hull sacked it off, Bruce is just shit. Saints will go furthest out of our teams. Or maybe not. Oh dear. I don't think they showed contempt, they just look a shadow of the team of last season. No flowing football, mainly long punts towards Pelle to bring it down and others into play. One-dimensional and an inferior squad to the last three years.
VinceNoir Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 They were absolutely awful this evening and offered nothing whatsoever. They were really frustrated by FCM's time wasting, but to me they spent far too much time moaning about that rather then sorting themselves out. I don't even remember them having a chance in the second half. Koeman was blaming the ref afterwards (Fair enough as he missed an absolute stonewall pen in the second half), but it appears as though he's feeling the pressure a bit. Maybe the sales of Schneiderlin and Clyne were a few too many? I guess the coming weeks will tell.
shen Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Sisto hasn't really found his feet yet this season. Only showed glimpses of his talent tonight. Sviatchenko had a great game in central defence though! Won many headers and plenty of interceptions.
shen Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 They were dreadful. Midtjylland really had a fairly easy time defending after the first 15 minutes. I have never rated Koeman as a coach, and I feel his time is finally coming up. He was clueless in both games and it's frankly embarassing that he insists his team were the better side over two legs.
Grandad. Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Be a blessing in disguise Southampton going out, really haven't got the squad to cope with Thursday Sunday football, it effected Everton and Spurs badly last season. I think both only won one game on the Sunday after playing on the Thursday. I know it gets said a lot on here but the format of the Europa League really needs to change.

Should just go back to what it used to be, 2 legged knockout.
Grandad. Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Should just go back to what it used to be, 2 legged knockout. Yep fully agree. How much it effects your League campaign is a joke. Just looking back through Spurs schedule from their Europa League campaign last season was a joke, travelling to Greece, Serbia and Turkey! Shortest flight to Serbia is 2 hours, but baring in mind all the faffing around before and after, looking at minimum a 4 and half hour journey back to the UK after your game, so the players won't be getting home till 06:00am at the earliest. Probably won't train on the Friday after a game, probably swimming pool or light running. Then on the Saturday if you're at home on the Sunday, train like normal and home but if you're away like Spurs were a few times on the Sunday you will be travelling to possibly Newcastle or Sunderland. Praying Liverpool get relatively short trips to Holland, France and Germany.
Soar Fox Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 You saw Athletico Madrid have drawn that Kazakhstan side. Over a 9 hour flight for them.

Soar Fox Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 it's the premier league that needs to change Why does the premier league need to change? It's uefa who are sending clubs to the arse end of Europe every other week.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 Why does the premier league need to change? It's uefa who are sending clubs to the arse end of Europe every other week. There's a reason why we're the only country who struggle with the schedule.
Soar Fox Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 There's a reason why we're the only country who struggle with the schedule. I just think our clubs can't be bothered with the amount of games you have to play. Cut the games down and you might get more interested. Though don't the Europa league winners get a champions league place now? That might be more of an incentive.
Dan Posted 27 August 2015 Posted 27 August 2015 You saw Athletico Madrid have drawn that Kazakhstan side. Over a 9 hour flight for them. 11 and a half hour for Benfica. Outrageous. I just think our clubs can't be bothered with the amount of games you have to play. Cut the games down and you might get more interested. Though don't the Europa league winners get a champions league place now? That might be more of an incentive. It's a poor excuse. We are the only ones who struggle with it. Spain have a worse schedule than we do. Copa Del Rey gets played over two legs per round during midweek - so if you get through the first round (as a top tier club) then you play at least 8 games in January. Granted Spain does have a little break during the winter where we have one of our toughest schedules but we don't really have it any worse than them and they're regularly delivering the goods. I just don't think the English style of play is particularly effective on the continent and nor do I think English sides are as good as they're made out to be. I'd definitely bin the groups off though as I do think that just adds unnecessary fixtures. You're sorting something over six games that could be sorted in two, or even one (though I'd not support that idea).
Guest MattP Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 As Dan says why do the Spanish cope with an even more hectic schedule? Who was the guy on here last season who argued with me that Southampton would "wipe the floor" with Valencia if they met?
Nalis Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 Do Spanish teams really though? No league cup and top tier teams only play in the Copa Del Rey from the round of 32. Also, replays dont apply in the above (not sure about the final admittely though). But yeah, English teams should be doing better in all honestly.
Dan Posted 28 August 2015 Posted 28 August 2015 Granted there is the League Cup, but it isn't the group stages we seem to struggle with, it's the knockouts. The Copa Del Rey is played over two legs in every round. I'll take Barcelona for example, they will enter at the round of 32, draw I don't know... Celta Vigo, play a league game, then Celta at home, then a league game again at the weekend, then Celta away, assume they get through they have another league game that weekend, then their round of 16 first leg against Betis, then a league game, then the second leg of Betis. Their January schedule is frankly an absolute nightmare, even worse than England's December. England's December is bad but at least it doesn't get too bad until quite late on. I just think Spanish sides are a bit more adaptable and they tend to play far better as teams than ours do. They seem to have far better cohesion and movement and I think that's why they're so good in Europe.
