Detroit Blues Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 I drive about 45 miles total every day. It takes about 30-60 minutes each way depending on traffic, and then I have another 10 minute walk from the parking garage to the office. Luckily my boss is okay with me coming and leaving earlier than most to avoid the worst part of the traffic. A lot of people in my office easily spend 2-3 hours a day commuting.
Fox92 Posted 30 August 2015 Posted 30 August 2015 I start on Monday and only thing I'm "nervous" about is the travel. Can't exactly afford to get a flat or a room straight away so going to have to get the train which will take 50 minutes. Does anybody have a season ticket? I've been reading but don't quite understand how they work. Are they available to use on any service?
Rincewind Posted 30 August 2015 Posted 30 August 2015 Think most are for offpeak times. Whatever they are. You will probably save a bit with a season ticket. The last place I worked was Melton Mowbray and I thought it was going to be permanent so inquired about a weekly ticket for me and a colleague who would be sharing shifts. Was told the tickets were not transferable. Didn't matter in the end. The site we worked lasted one night the the company went tits up leaving us without a job or a clue what had happened.
The Doctor Posted 30 August 2015 Posted 30 August 2015 Longest was my summer job and the one I'm back at now on a temp basis - live in Wigston, it's in Market Harborough, so about half hour drive Shortest - about 10 minutes; either the work at the students union in the radio station or the bartending job I did second year at a communist club/underground punk venue.
bovril Posted 30 August 2015 Posted 30 August 2015 About 4 yards from bed to office. You're a toilet duck?
lavrentis Posted 30 August 2015 Posted 30 August 2015 Bout 5 miles, just under 20 mins on the tube. Door to door probably 30 mins

I've been reading but don't quite understand how they work. Are they available to use on any service? I used to travel bristol to cardiff on the train and had a month season ticket. I could use it on and off peak. You will only be able to use it for the route you travel. I.e bristol to cardiff and cardiff to bristol. You'll need a passport sized photo of yourself
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 30 August 2015 Posted 30 August 2015 I work 3 and a half miles from my flat, free bus travel on that route through a partnership with the company and Arriva. Can take 20-30 minutes depending on traffic volume at that time of day, so 30-40 minutes door to door. I once worked (on an extremely temporary basis, literally filling in for someone on two occasions) a less than a 10 minute walk away with an hour lunch. That was really sweet.
ozleicester Posted 31 August 2015 Author Posted 31 August 2015 About 4 yards from bed to office. You're a toilet duck? Hooker?
RonnieTodger Posted 31 August 2015 Posted 31 August 2015 1.5 miles according to Google Maps. Should only take 5 minutes but the poverty light near Fosse Park always make it longer.
jonthefox Posted 31 August 2015 Posted 31 August 2015 Live in Enderby , work in oadby. Don't start till 9.30 either .
separator Posted 1 September 2015 Posted 1 September 2015 Commute to London from Leicester for 4 days, then 4 days off. My job also includes lots of travelling all over London so spend many many hours sat on a train / tube / bus.
ChrisFilter Posted 1 September 2015 Posted 1 September 2015 Drive ten mins from my small village to Tunbridge Wells. Walk ten mins to the station. Train for 55 mins to Cannon St. 20 min walk to the office. 1hr 35 mins each way. I really don't mind it, but the fact that I'm only in the office 9:30am - 5pm at most helps. Usually I'm on the train home before 4pm and I work from home one or two days a week.
