Bellend Sebastian Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Just short of 2 miles, a 35 minute walk. It's just far enough to get on my tits a bit, but helps to maintain my svelte looks I suppose
Marmite Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 I look after five branches for the company I work for which are Leicester, Northampton, Milton Keynes, Basildon (Essex) and Hoddesdon (East London) I have to go to all of these once a week so a branch a day and expected to get there as close to 8.30 as possible. Leicester - 10 mins from my house so normally go there Fridays Northampton - 1 hour away Milton Keynes - 1 hour 20 mins Hoddesdon - 2 hours Basildon - 2-3 hours. These are approximate times depending on traffic. I will normally leave for the London Branches around 5.30am and leave the branches about 3pm and get back for about 6pm so LONG days
Frank to be Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Currently about 30mins drive which is really convenient by engineering project management standards. I had one away contract where I stayed in a hotel which was in the same building as the main office. That was great, up at 8.40am for a 9am start. But had to be up at 4am on Monday to drive there from home. When I first went to work in Ho Chi Minh I made the mistake of arranging an apartment about two miles from the office, thinking it was quite close. Traffic there is so bad that it took more than an hour to drive. Too hot to walk so had to get a motorcycle taxi into work each day which got their fast by weaving in and out of traffic. Exciting, but so dangerous. My driving limit is about an hour to an hour and a half, much more than that and it just takes too much of your day away.
Rincewind Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Retired. Now part time real ale tester so I do most of my traveling by foot. Can be tiring at times but the perks are good.
Captain... Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Today - about 3 metres, (working from home) Other times depends on the project, furthest was Guelph in Canada which would take the whole day to get to. Current project is in Northwich (Lancashire) so from London is about 3 hours.
Jon the Hat Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Currently 10 miles which takes 15 mins in clear traffic, but up to 45 normally. Moving in a couple of weeks, will be further then, more like 45 mins to 1 hour.
RowlattsFox Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 20 minute walk into town daily, but once a month I go to Head office in Liverpool so hour and half train ride. Hate the commute to Liverpool, couldn't do that kind of commute everyday.

Wymsey Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Winning. I thought you said you hate your job not long ago, though?
Carl the Llama Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 8 km or so, takes 15-20 mins traffic dependent. I recently toyed with the idea of cycling the journey each day but binned that one after I did a trial run and needed to spend about 15 mins in the walk-in freezer before the sweat finally stopped pouring out. I am not in good shape.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Closest- I live at number 39. I've worked at number 36. Furthest- Brighton/Orpington or Farnham. Took me 3hr 45mins to get to Farnham the other week. I've also done the same drive in 2hrs 15
Stadt Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 All depends for me like... On what I'm doing or where I'm doing it like...I know what you mean like, sometimes you'll travel like an all round trip of 30 miles
RowlattsFox Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 tbf that Liverpool/Blackpool train is the shittest train going. You're not wrong, we used to have the meeting on a Friday as well. 5pm train into Blackpool on a Friday night is not pretty. Any northern rail trip is horrible to be fair.

Any northern rail trip is horrible to be fair. haha yeah i got it on a friday when the darts was on a few years back. carnage. yeah they massively need to get a few better trains. they're all like really shit old buses on tracks. grim.

Any northern rail trip is horrible to be fair. Yes it is. How they still run 30 year old trains is beyond me. I live about 20 minutes outside Sheffield and I hate it when I have to get the (Northern Rail) service.
Finnegan Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 I thought you said you hate your job not long ago, though? So all the better that I get home in under a minute.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Just under a mile, which takes about 2 mins in the car or works van at 6.30 am. Can jog it in about 10 mins as it is much more direct on foot. Bike would probably take same time as a car.
Guest Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 A hell of long way, currently working in Manchester and living in Leicester though I stay up there in between shifts. Don't want to be doing this forever though
Strokes Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 I work all over the country so its never the same, I try to avoid the office which is 11 miles and about 40 mins drive. I get a company van which I can use for personal miles too.
Webbo Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 All depends for me like... On what I'm doing or where I'm doing it like... Same here. I've done some work in London and Birmingham but mainly I work around Leicestershire. This year mainly Syston and Queniborough, which is nice.
StanSP Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Takes about 15 mins to get to work without school traffic. Otherwise takes around half an hour. If I move in to my new flat it'll take about 5 mins. Furthest I've had to travel in this job is all the way to Kettering which took about an hour.
Alex_LCFC Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Takes me about 45 minutes to cycle to work. 13 miles
