Jobs - This Time, How Far?

Recommended Posts

so weve had a couple of threads about jobs, so its time for the next "exciting" chapter.

How far/How long do you travel for your job?

Currently...

How do i get there? - Drive

How far is it? - about 19Kms according to Google

How long does it take? - About 25 minutes in usual traffic, best case scenario = 18 minutes, worst is about 40 minutes.

Furthest ive driven daily for work... Measham to Sheffield - roughly 100Kms and anything up to 2 hours (did this for 3 months)

Closest ive been to work... 1.3kms - 8-10 minutes in traffic

Interestingly thread idea mate it's like a spin off of my recent successful job thread.

I currently travel 12.2m and it takes me 25 minutes.

The closest I've been was 0.7m and that took 3 minutes.

I'm semi-retired but when I do work it's usually local, 5-10 miles and I get there in 5 - 15 minutes.

I used to commute to central London by train followed by walking to my place of work, took around 3.5 hours every day which was a pain.

My consultancy work took me all over the UK and the world so travel times could be anything from a few hours to over a day (Australia).  Too old for that now, the body doesn't adjust quickly enough.

I see this as my "Better Call Saul" to your Breaking Bad

About 2 miles which can take 10 minutes or about 45. I'd walk in more regularly but I usually have a laptop, some physical files and sometimes need to go out during the day so stuck using the car. Had plenty of offers of late to work in London but despite being quite close its still an hour train to Victoria and I just don't want the commute whilst having young kids. I know id get involved in the drinking culture so firmly established in the insurance industry up there.

Home office is just 1 flight of stairs, actual office is about an hour from Stuttgart so my commute takes about 5 hours including flights, check-in etc.

About 12 miles to base..takes about 30 mins

About 7 miles to where I do most of my work...can take 15 mins in school holidays, 30 or more when the kids are at school.

From home to my base is 1.5miles.

For two years I ran or cycled which would take 5-10 minutes. Now I have my own van so to base is still 5 mins but I can be working anywhere in the country on a daily basis.

Bout ten minute drive. Can be six or seven if all the lights go right, can take half an hour if there's traffic on the way home.

there's two ways I can go that both take almost the exact same amount of time so usually just check which has less traffic before I leave. good old google maps

I've always been quite fortunate that I've never had to travel far for work.  I've had a couple of different jobs over the last 20 years & the furthest I've had to travel is about 3 miles & the shortest is probably less than a mile.........so would cycle to & from work.

I'm now a self-employed gardener, I don't charge a massive amount, so try to restrict the distances I travel & try to keep it 'local' (less than 5 miles)  I spend a whole day in Wigston, Stoneygate, Oadby & Stoughton one day every 2 weeks (about 8-10 miles).  It's a bit further than I would normally travel, but I spend the whole day out there, so it's worth it.  I go to Lutterworth once a week, but it only takes 10 minutes to get there.j

I spend a fair bit of time on the road every day, travelling in between jobs.  It's never really very far, but I see this as my rest time anyway.

One thing I have never done & I could never see myself doing is sitting in rush hour traffic every day.  It would probably drive me insane having to do that twice a day, 5 days a week.  I feel sorry for the thousands that have to do it & have very little choice.  An 8 hour shift & another 2 or 3 hours added to the day just travelling to & from work.

55 miles.

Takes an hour an ten in total - 50 in the car followed by 15 on public transport.

Don't mind it at the moment find the drive and the radio cathartic!

About 3-4 miles on a motorbike. I'm the **** filtering on soar valley way knocking your wing mirrors.

My commute is 6 miles from Birstall up Abbey to the other side of town. I've managed it in a little over 10 minutes in rush hour, usually 15 when I'm not feeling suicidal. When I drove a car it was usually 30-35 minutes

Yup takes me about 10-15 minutes depending on the traffic lights. I probably spend an equal amount of time getting my bike out and gear on then I do actually riding to work. Hopefully we'll have another mild winter this year.

Work in Shoreditch, live in Greenwich - probably about 8.5/9 miles, about an hour's worth of commuting. Bus to North Greenwich, tube 2 stops to Canada Water, London Overground 5 stops to Shoreditch High St.

All depends for me like... On what I'm doing or where I'm doing it like...

Like this use of the word like in that, like. Col will like it, like.

I travel from Loughborough to Hugglescote. Think it works out about 12 miles and takes between 25 and 35 minutes.

5 miles. North Islington to Waterloo... Takes me 40 mins, door to door.

Enough to make me miss a leisurely drive from Mahkidabrah to Lestoh every now and again.
