Finnegan Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 People, do us all a favour and shut the **** up about living in Leicester. If you sign for the club, they don't force you to live in Neston Gardens or up the Matthews. Foxestalk has heard of commuting, right?

Jimothy Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Exactly. Doesn't Vardy live in Melton, a perfectly nice place to live. I'm sure a lot of other player live in the county. Anyone would think the players are forced to live in a bedsit in Highfields. And if you're comparing living in cities and that being a turn off or a pull to joining a club, I don't think places like Stoke and Sunderland really have anything over on that one anyway.

My friend made a comment about Stoke the other day... I thought it was quite common knowledge that more or less everyone who plays for stoke commutes in from Alderley Edge and Wilmslow etc
Rob1742 Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 It's not just Leicester, it's the East Midlands. There is now a new level of wealth that our footballers enjoy, so really they want a decent area to spend their wonga. If you play for Stoke, you could live in Cheshire, if you play for Sunderland, you have Newcastle and several nice places around there (Durham). There isn't really anywhere in the area that would encourage a very wealthy international footballer to base themselves. Vards is different, his wealth is new to him so Melton will serve him well for the moment. But for players that have had wealth and lived in places like Madrid, Paris etc etc Leicestershire and the East Midlands won't tick the box. As an example the owners won't base themselves here. They get out as soon as possible, normally by helicopter. These are not people happy to go to San Carlos and stop in the Marriott.
MPH Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 It does say a lot about Leicester as s city though that some small flats overlooking a very dirty and grungy canal is considered high end living!
Christoph Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Leicestershire is actually a really nice place to live. Has nobody seen the houses around Bradgate park? Very few rich people live in the city nowadays. But I think what people are tryign to say is more football players are attracted to living close to London then the midlands.
pSinatra Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 There's plenty of beautiful villages in Leicestershire......particularly heading in the Market Harborough direction & around Oakham/Uppingham. A footballers career is a short one. £50k a week, a £2 million house in the Leicestershire countryside & an hour's train ride to London is a small sacrifice to make for a few years of your life
Soar Fox Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 How many of them would actually live in Leicester? There are enough nice villages around Leicestershire where they could live. Hallaton, Medbourne, Willoughby Waterleys.
Babylon Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 I would imagine quite a lot of footballers actually want to live in a city, rather than out in the sticks, especially when coming from abroad. Imagine coming from a foreign country, not knowing the language of the country you are going to 100% and then being stuck out in Oakham, just you and your cat. I think I'd rather be in the city where you might find a few other people who you share the same language with.

filbertstreet Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 If the squad all lived in St Matthews nobody in the prem would **** with them that's for sure
Wymsey Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Mandaric used to live in one of the penthouses across the river at the ground, initially, before moving to somewhere Oadby Way.
pSinatra Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Yes but do these place have an Aldi or a Lidl? Maybe more important. Do they have a bookies?

Finn Claw II Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 It's not the lack of nice villages and green space - it is the culture, restaurants, clubs, shopping etc. Leicester lacks that.

lgfualol Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 The club should just buy the Ridgeway and we'll put the players in there.
Finnegan Posted 28 July 2015 Author Posted 28 July 2015 It's not the lack of nice villages and green space - it is the culture, restaurants, clubs, shopping etc. Leicester lacks that. ... So go to London? It's an hour sat in first class. You could comfortably live in London and play for a Midlands club.

Those deer at bradgate park are not really known for their party lifestyle...
Voll Blau Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Surprised Cambridge, Oxford and York aren't top flight sides really.
Great Boos Up Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 I moved to Leicester 1987 and you would be surprised what a s^*t hole other parts of the country are like. Can't understand the kids who leave school and want to move away. It's a great county for footballers and their wives. No. of multimillionaires per county. 4th in the UK. http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/interactive/2012/sep/13/money-uk-multi-millionaires-regional-breakdown
Soar Fox Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 Didn't knocky used to go back to France for a weekend. Like finnegan said an hour to London then a couple of hours on the Eurostar to Paris.
Jace Posted 28 July 2015 Posted 28 July 2015 From someone who lives in Cornwall Leicester isn't as bad as many make out on here
