Foxhateram Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 With the summer holidays here I thought this thread would be useful for us to share the things that we could do in Leicestershire to keep the guests or family amused. My story is that I am travelling up from Devon this weekend on a flying visit, will go to the football obviously but on the Sunday me and my fiancée are looking for somewhere to go out. We are going to braggie, as this is where I spent a lot of my childhood, will shoot round to groby pool as well, probably a little trip to Swithland reservoir too. What I struggle to think of, is where to go if the weather is poor? Just me and my fiancée so no children to amuse. Discuss.........
Guest MattP Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 First off I'd avoid Groby Pool with the Mrs on a Sunday If the weather is poor you are in trouble really as most things to do in the county are weather dependant.

Yer from my childhood memories I thought that would be the case. Ah well a bit of rain never hurt! Ha. Groby can't be that bad? Surely?
pSinatra Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g186333-Activities-Leicestershire_England.html If you enjoy boozing & eating.....you should be ok. At least it's indoors. I checked Nottinghamshire & Wollaton Hall was their top attraction, so it's not just Leicestershire that's a bit shit. Stratford upon Avon is easy to get to or catch the train to Birmingham for about a tenner.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 Foxton Locks is a nice little afternoon out, and the pub there (can't remember the name) does nice meals - it's not a huge place and the pub is sort of central so even if the weather is patchy you can go back for cover and another pint. Weather is supposed to be alright this weekend though so I wouldn't really worry about keeping out of the rain Actually nuts to that - go to Stretton go-karting. The track's brilliant and they're the twin engine jobs so really fast.

Foxhateram Posted 7 August 2015 Author Posted 7 August 2015 Groby is fine, the Pool on a Sunday is a reknown swinging and dogging spot though Oh gosh! Really? That's terrible! Ruined. Haha. Some great suggestions in here guys, thanks. I can remember visiting the locks in the past as well.

Foxhateram Posted 7 August 2015 Author Posted 7 August 2015 Was planning on going to the discovery museum in snibston, but am I right in saying it is now closed?
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 Yep closed only a few days ago. To be fair the last time I went I think they were still pushing the plasma ball like it was the greatest invention in history
Webbo Posted 7 August 2015 Posted 7 August 2015 The Watermead Country is really nice and only 10 minutes walk from where I live.

Foxhateram Posted 7 August 2015 Author Posted 7 August 2015 The Watermead Country is really nice and only 10 minutes walk from where I live. Just looked this up, looks really nice. If braggie doesn't keep us amused all day then I may well go here. Anywhere nice so I can convince my Surrey born fiancée that not all places 'up north' (as she calls it) are horrid. Haha.
