ScouseFox Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 So I am moving to live in Leeds, by myself. Like literally. I don't know a single person who lives there and I'm going next week. So like all the cool kids I'm turning to the internet to find some shit out. I'm moving to a place (well hopefully) called Chapel Allerton about 2 miles outta town. I was told it was "hip and happening" which is what most people describe me as, so what a match made in heaven. I'm working in town (Merrion Street) so I'm guessing it'll be best to bus it in? Or is there bare parking in town for free? So Leeds men (not you, Leeds Fox you liar) what do I do there. Where do I get most drunk, where do I eat that means I don't have to cook, where do I find and them take the chicks on the dates etc? And most of all is it good yeah? More specifically Chapel Allerton itself? Seems like a lot of bars/restaurants in the village and stuff, looks pretty sweet. Any inside tips/hot spots I need to get to to make actual friends etc much appreciated.

The Doctor Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Not a clue where chapel allerton is, but for city centre boozing, brewdog. The Oporto as a dive bar/music venue is pretty good as well.
Mike Oxlong Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Chapel Allerton is great. Quite a few nice bars (one with a great selection of gins) and a fabulous Thai restaurant ( Sukhothai) You could do a lot worse.
Fox92 Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Man this ain't grinder homie That's gratitude for you!

Tielemans63 Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Merrion Street? You going to work for William Hill then?
ScouseFox Posted 19 August 2015 Author Posted 19 August 2015 Merrion Street? You going to work for William Hill then? hell yeah brother

Wish that were true I should add its about 3-4 years ago when I last had a few nights out there so if it's shit now I apologise.
Tielemans63 Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 hell yeah brother I used to work there but we're talking ****ing ages ago - best part of a decade ago. I bloody loved it though, was offered chance to train as an odds compiler and turned it down - worst decision I ever made. What you going to be doing mate? Could advise on places to go etc but they've probably all got different names
sphericalfox Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 Chapel Allerton is alright. It is the 'hip bit'. Nice few hipster pubs and crowd. Free parking in Leeds! Hahahahaha. No chance. Bus it. Driving is horrid there. a two mile journey can take up to an hour at times in places.

Could advise on places to go etc but they've probably all got different names trading assistant is the job title i'm starting at, with the aim of progressing to trader when i've got my foot in the door. spoke to the guys when i was interviewed and they said they'd be surprised if the opportunity to become a trader/odds compiler didn't arise for anyone starting off where i'm starting as long as i can show i'd be capable etc. so hopefully that'll be where i end up, be a dream job for sure. haha yeah i'll take any advice but like you say 10 years is a while haha. i've literally been to leeds twice; once for the interview 13 days ago and once on saturday to try and secure somewhere to live, so even if it was 10 years back you (and anyone else on here) will have a lot more knowledge about the place than me! Chapel Allerton is alright. It is the 'hip bit'. Nice few hipster pubs and crowd. Free parking in Leeds! Hahahahaha. No chance. Bus it. Driving is horrid there. a two mile journey can take up to an hour at times in places. haha nice, i noticed how weird driving round bits of the centre were last week, probably just get a bus pass or something then and hope there's not a lot of traffic when i'm travelling. hipster pubs camonnnnnn

More specifically Chapel Allerton itself? Seems like a lot of bars/restaurants in the village and stuff, looks pretty sweet. Any inside tips/hot spots I need to get to to make actual friends etc much appreciated. I lived in Leeds for 14 years before moving back to Leicester (god knows why!) and I guarantee you will have the best time there. I lived in Chapel A (as the cool kids call it) for five years and there's plenty of bars, pubs and restaurants there so you can easily have a night out without having to go into Leeds itself. You've also got Roundhay Park on your doorstep which is a great place for a chill out on a Sunday and great for a bbq (maybe next summer for that one??) Leeds itself is absolutely packed with bars. You have a huge selection ahead of you! There's a street called Call Lane which is full of independents. I'd recommend Oporto, Jake's Bar, Norman on there. It's always rammed out on weekends. You have places like Azuca which is Howard Marks' bar ... there is just so many. I'd also recommend a bar called Mojo which is at the opposite side of town to Call Lane (still only about a 15 min walk though). They do incredible cocktails and my mate Lamby (not the Lamby off here!) runs it. Drop in and tell him you know Dave from Leicester and I'm sure he'll shout you a few free shots of Jager! Restaurant-wise you're really spoilt for choice. Literally every type of food going is available so I'd struggle to suggest any one in particular. As much as I hate him, Jamie Oliver's place is decent and not overpriced. In general, Leeds is always buzzing, the city centre is amazing. The areas around it are a bit grim (you're ok in Chapel Allerton though) but it's ace. I honestly think you'll spend a good few years checking out all the bars/restaurants/pubs/shops, there are just so many. All I can say is ... have fun!
ScouseFox Posted 19 August 2015 Author Posted 19 August 2015 hi thanks you never mentioned you'd been to leeds so didn't think to ask? ;p serious tho legit advice thank you. merrion street sounds good might not even get a house just do all nighters in their hipster joints then go to work.
The Doctor Posted 19 August 2015 Posted 19 August 2015 friends of ham That reopened now? Great place but I'm sure it was closed while expanding into the old bookies next door.
