SaffronDom Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 Deepdale away in cap cup a while bk, freezing cold (both weather and pies)... Not to mention a 2-1 loss. Nicky Adams with the goal... Remember him haha
Izzy Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 The Shabby.Where the away fans are situated is the best part of the stadium now. image.jpgimage.jpg I'm in there somewhere! Happy days..
lestalee Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 Filbet street lets be honest was I shitehole, carling stand was ok though..
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 I remember watching city at Reading in mid 80's, that was an awful old ground. There were so few of us there some old girl was sharing her sweets with us!
Izzy Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 Filbet street lets be honest was I shitehole, carling stand was ok though.. But it was a great shit hole. Pen 3 was one of the all time greatest shit holes but holds some of my greatest memories. I'd swap any of today's swanky all seater stadiums for those days again...
Arnar GunnLADson Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 Millmoor concourses I remember asking a steward where to put a wrapper from my balti pie as there was no bins. He told me to sling it over the wall as there was a tip next to the stadium.
ScouseFox Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 when rotherham played at whatever it was called they played at. i went with bristol rovers, probably about 250 people there, may as well have watched it from bristol we were that fu cking far away with the running track and what seemed like ridiculously unsteep (not a word?) stands. last minute winner though. awful game.
cambridgefox Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 I'm in there somewhere! Happy days..I was in the home section I think.
Vlad the Fox Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 New Wembley for worst football experience, I didn't think it looked particulary impressive (you build it up in your mind) and the OTT stewards plus the 0 atmosphere meant it was a pretty dissapointing day. I suppose if I had seen the new wembley as a kid it would seem much more impressive. So it would be the older grounds when I was younger and not having experienced a lot of away grounds that stay with you. Although later on in the early 90's my first vist to the hawthroms at around 16 seemed very impressive. The away end seemed huge especially compared to filbert street. Used to be one of my favourite away ends until they redeveloped, it was huge with a low roof. In fact that picture made me realise a dream I had a while back of what I though must have been an invented ground was of the hawthorns. Also used to love the away terrace at barnsley, that night when Joachim scored that goal and the packed Leicester end went nuts. Also got told by someone to keep my arms down when chanting at barnsley. Other dives I've been to include the manor ground, looked like someone had built a subuteo stadium on the cheap, and brightens old ground (goldstone???) was a dump too though these places still have a smell and feel to them that I can remember now. Special mention to the sinking old den, stadium and surrounding area complete shithole.
Leicesterpool Posted 8 September 2015 Posted 8 September 2015 Kenilworth Road really is terrible, I've visited many old grounds but Luton's certainly is dated. The away end is basically in the middle of two houses. Once through the turnstiles your almost in someone's back yard. I must sympathise with the local residents when the likes of Millwall and Leeds show up.
Stuntman_Mike Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Apart from a few that have already been mentioned; Brighton's Withdean Stadium was awful. You were so far back from the pitch, it had no character and although I know it was a temporary stadium, despite them being there a few years, it still had that feeling they never made it 'home' if that makes sense. It's almost hard to believe it's the same club that get decent gates at the Amex every week. Walsall was another one. Simply couldn't see the goal when you're parallel to it. Only knew we'd scored when Howard started celebrating.
nativefox Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Accrington Stanley's ground when we played them in THE Carling Cup a few years back. Even the flies wouldn't go in the toilets. DJ Campbell's first competitive game for us I think. Doubly depressing.
cambridgefox Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Not been myself, but didn't Northamptons old ground only gave 3 sides and shared with the cricket pitch. Being a sad act ive got a book of football grounds from the air used to tick them off.Must be 20 years old,I will dig that out later.Bet most grounds gave changed beyond recognition or moved like ourselves.

Reg Vardy Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Best and worst...winning 1-0 at Crewe.......awful ground, destroyed the advertising hoardings.......hopefully will be a while before we return....
Livid Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Bristol Rovers, went to Twerton Park and their temporary home at Bath City. Both take some beating for me. Open terraces with no cover and hammered it down on both occasions, not fun days out. I quite like West Brom for some reason, a good model of a redeveloped stadium.
Northants Fox 3 Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Not been myself, but didn't Northamptons old ground only gave 3 sides and shared with the cricket pitch. Yes that is correct, although current ground at Sixfields is also 3 sided right now as development work to one stand has stalled twice, and the owner also has an ongoing argument about selling the club as the ground is part owned by the Borough Council
Socks Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 worst for me was scunthorpes ground hardly any grass on it, and the fans, w@nkers, and the town is an utter shithole thats full of ******
Langley Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Brighton away before the AMEX. That was horrible!
Weller in Tights Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Accrington Stanley's ground when we played them in THE Carling Cup a few years back. Even the flies wouldn't go in the toilets. DJ Campbell's first competitive game for us I think. Doubly depressing. On top of your points, we missed the kick off and the only goal of the game due to being held up in Traffic and it rained on an open end. A very depressing ground.
Weller in Tights Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 worst for me was scunthorpes ground hardly any grass on it, and the fans, w@nkers, and the town is an utter shithole thats full of ****** Another bad one for me. I'm a bit of a large bloke and found the turnstiles incredibly 'snug'!
MrSpaM Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 Pretty sure that terrace at Peterborough had one urinal for 5000 people last time I went. Can vouch for this too, how the hell they got away with supplying a single 2 person urinal for the entire away end I'll never know, everybody just pissed up the back of the stand!
Leicesterpool Posted 9 September 2015 Posted 9 September 2015 I remember going to Bloomfield Road in February 2008 when we lost 1-2, where there was not stand behind one goal and the away end was a temporary stand on the side, with no roof! and it had to be on one of the most windiest, coldest, wettest days of the year aswell.
Great Boos Up Posted 9 September 2015 Author Posted 9 September 2015 Anyone remember Notts County when they built their new away stand. I think we were the first to visit and it made the papers for an offensive gesture towards us in a pre match unveiling. PS: loved the stories of odd grounds and being cold and rained on and still supporting while we're losing. They are the true memories we hold in our hearts as we watch this season with pride. You my friends, I admire, and you have earned glory.
surrifox Posted 10 September 2015 Posted 10 September 2015 anyone go to Charlton in the mid 80s when their ground was virtually a building site?I doubt if H&S would allow it to be used today even with restricted capacity- as I recall we had to use a narrow track along a steep bank going through some derelict houses
