Kevin_Yahoo Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Hello there. I'm writing an article about Andy Impey (it's a kind of Where Are They Now? thing) and I want to get fans' memories about him as a player. Any memories/stories you have - good or bad - please post them here. Doesn't even have to be a story/memory as such, could just be your general view on his time at Leicester. Especially good would be any personal memories you have of meeting him/seeing him around town - stuff like that. I'd want to use some of the your quotes for the article, which will appear on the Yahoo Football website next week. So if you don't want your comments to be used then let me know, and they won't be. I should point out I'm not a City fan, I'm actually a Hammer. Feel free to abuse me for this! (you have plenty of ammunition this season) Cheers, Kevin
Collymore Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 1. His cross V Grimsby to set up Izzet for his famous overhead kick 2. Him kissing a lady in the crowd after scoring against Middlesbrough at Filbert Street.
ScouseFox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 he was a great guy. always liked his name.
bovril Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Was one of the key components of the O'Neill team. Along with Guppy he made the 3-5-2 work, and allowed Savage to move into a midfield 3 after he'd spent a lot of time at RWB. I remember the big looping crosses, the slightly awkward running style, and the lack of a neck.
Bettsj2 Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 I always remember him playing a reserves game and one of the youth team players played a pass to him that was a bit short. He didnt move for it at all. The youth player shouted at him to run for it to which Impey replied, 'Oi kid, (makes a cash gesture rubbing his fore finger, middle finger and thumb together) yeah? Getsmeh? Give it to fvcking feet'. Fvcking hilarious.
1972 Fox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Didn't rate him personally. Too soft and didn't work hard enough in my opinion. Don't think he properly fitted the O'Neill ethos really.
ALC Fox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 I don't think I really appreciated him that much while he was here. He seemed to be quite unremarkable as a player. He was never the most talented player in our squad but he did his job well and to my mind he rarely made a mistake. I remember not really knowing whether he was a right back or a right mid. Looking back on it, he was part of one of the most successful eras in our history, especially our modern history, so he must have had something about him. The most abiding memory I have of Impey is from a game where Watford visited Filbert Street. The away team brought so few fans with them that they opened up part of it to home fans to sell extra tickets. As a kid wearing an away yellow Leicester shirt in what should've been the away end at Filbert Street, I remember worrying about being confused for a Watford fan. Anyway, I was sat quite close to the pitch so naturally I was only a few feet away from Impey as he ran up and down the flank. On one occasion, there was a slight lull in the game and Impey was hovering nearby. One of our own so-called fans proceeded to shout racial abuse at Impey. Naturally, there were many around who were disgusted by this behaviour. Impey's reaction: he turned to the abuser, looked him in the eye, put this thumb up and carried on. Decent player. Absolutely top man.
Soar Fox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Whatever the weather he always wore gloves.
bovril Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Didn't rate him personally. Too soft and didn't work hard enough in my opinion. Don't think he properly fitted the O'Neill ethos really. He made the system work.
Guest Electric Yetis Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Kissing the old lady sat just to the side of me after the deflected goal vs Middlesbrough. And getting some pretty horrendous racial abuse from a few of our own fans in the 3-2 defeat at Gillingham.
LcfcBaker Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Seen him at Wembley when we played Scotland not so long ago.
bovril Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Seen him at Wembley when we played Scotland not so long ago. Not touting tickets was he?
Kinowe Soorie Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Never rated him! Just one of those players that I didn't understand why we signed him?
ousefox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 My Mum, who knows nothing about football still asks what 'no neck' is up to nowadays.
bovril Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 My Mum, who knows nothing about football still asks what 'no neck' is up to nowadays. I bet she does.
Aus Fox Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Best neck in Football. I didn't think he had one.
Tuna Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Used to pop up in loads of different positions, Originally a right winger at QPR, ended up at left back, right back, wing back. Always a dependable player, our first mr versatile. Its Impey's birthday on Wednesday.
Gerard Posted 27 September 2015 Posted 27 September 2015 Never rated him either. In our golden era we had some quality in Lennon, Izzet, Heskey, Elliott, Walsh, Taggart, Flowers, etc and we had some fillers. Impey would have been a filler as he did a job but was unspectacular. You can put Sinclar, Savage Cottee, etc in that category as well.
EGBFitness Posted 28 September 2015 Posted 28 September 2015 That was poor goalkeeping for his goal v Middlesbrough... Does anyone know who was in goal for them that day?
LanguedocFox Posted 28 September 2015 Posted 28 September 2015 In many ways he was unremarkable, but I liked him. he put in a shift, and hit some great crosses in for the forwards.
