Nalis Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 Sorry but thought this deserved a thread of its own and its ruined my lunch hour, someone out there must have the answer... filbertstreet Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 OK, I turned that Mercury article into a year by year chart to make it a bit easier to work out 1898 Dick Jones, Ernie Watkins 1899 1900 1901 Mick Cochrane 1902 1903 1904 1905 1906 1907 1908 Horace Bailey 1909 1910 Andy Aitken 1911 Andy Aitken 1912 1913 1914 1915 1916 1917 1918 1919 1920 Jock Paterson 1921 1922 Mick O'Brien 1923 Mick O'Brien 1924 Mick O'Brien 1925 John Duncan 1926 1927 Sid Bishop, Reg Osborne 1928 Len Barry, Ernie Hine 1929 Hughie Adcock, Len Barry, Ernie Hine 1930 Ernie Hine 1931 Ernie Hine 1932 1933 Dai Jones 1934 Dai Jones, Tommy Mills 1935 Sep Smith, Dai Jones 1936 Dai Jones 1937 Dai Jones 1938 1939 1940 1941 1942 1943 1944 1945 1946 1947 Mal Griffiths 1948 Mal Griffiths 1949 Tommy Godwin, Mal Griffiths 1950 Tommy Godwin, Mal Griffiths 1951 Mal Griffiths 1952 Mal Griffiths, Arthur Lever 1953 Mal Griffiths 1954 Johnny Anderson, Mal Griffiths 1955 Willie Cunningham 1956 Willie Cunningham 1957 Willie Cunningham 1958 Willie Cunningham 1959 Willie Cunningham 1960 Willie Cunningham, Ken Leek 1961 Ken Leek 1962 1963 Gordon Banks, Davie Gibson, Frank McLintock 1964 Gordon Banks, Davie Gibson 1965 Gordon Banks, Derek Dougan 1966 Gordon Banks, Derek Dougan, Jackie Sinclair, Peter Rodrigues 1967 Gordon Banks, Peter Rodrigues 1968 Peter Rodrigues 1969 Peter Rodrigues 1970 Peter Shilton, Peter Rodrigues 1971 Peter Shilton 1972 Peter Shilton 1973 Peter Shilton 1974 Peter Shilton, Keith Weller, Frank Worthington 1975 Steve Whitworth 1976 1977 1978 1979 1980 John O'Neill 1981 John O'Neill 1982 John O'Neill 1983 John O'Neill, Paul Ramsey, Gerry Daly 1984 Gary Lineker, John O'Neill, Paul Ramsey 1985 Gary Lineker, John O'Neill, Paul Ramsey 1986 John O'Neill, Paul Ramsey 1987 Jari Rantanen, Paul Ramsey, Ian Wilson, Robbie James 1988 Jari Rantanen, Jimmy Quinn, Paul Ramsey 1989 Jari Rantanen, Jimmy Quinn, Paul Ramsey 1990 David Kelly, Gary McAllister 1991 David Kelly 1992 1993 1994 Brian Carey, Iwan Roberts 1995 Colin Hill 1996 Zeljko Kalac, Colin Hill, Neil Lennon, Kasey Keller 1997 Colin Hill, Neil Lennon, Matt Elliott, Pontus Kaamark, Kasey Keller, Robbie Savage 1998 Theo Zagorakis, Neil Lennon, Matt Elliott, Pontus Kaamark, Kasey Keller, Robbie Savage 1999 Steve Guppy, Emile Heskey, Theo Zagorakis, Arnar Gunnlaugsson, Frank Sinclair, Neil Lennon, Matt Elliott, Pontus Kaamark, Kasey Keller, Robbie Savage 2000 Emile Heskey, Frank Sinclair, Neil Lennon, Gerry Taggart, Callum Davidson, Matt Elliott, Muzzy Izzet, Robbie Savage 2001 Frank Sinclair, Gerry Taggart, Callum Davidson, Matt Elliott, Muzzy Izzet, Matt Jones, Robbie Savage 2002 Trevor Benjamin, Frank Sinclair, Gerry Taggart, Callum Davidson, Paul Dickov, Muzzy Izzet, Matt Jones, Robbie Savage 2003 Trevor Benjamin, Frank Sinclair, Keith Gillespie, Paul Dickov, Matt Jones 2004 Danny Tiatto, Ian Walker, Nikos Dabizas, Joey Gudjonsson, Keith Gillespie, Peter Canero, Paul Dickov, Danny Coyne, Ben Thatcher 2005 Danny Tiatto, Lars Hirschfeld, Iain Hume, Momo Sylla, Joey Gudjonsson, Keith Gillespie, Alan Maybury, Rab Douglas 2006 Patrick Kisnorbo, Iain Hume, Elvis Hammond, Momo Sylla, Joey Gudjonsson 2007 Patrick Kisnorbo, Radostin Kishishev, Iain Hume, Marton Fulop, Hossein Kaebi, Gareth McAuley 2008 Aleksandar Tunchev, Hossein Kaebi, Gareth McAuley 2009 Aleksandar Tunchev, Ryan McGivern, Andy King 2010 Yuki Abe, Ryan McGivern, Greg Cunningham, Andy King 2011 John Pantsil, Jeff Schlupp, Sol Bamba, Yuki Abe, Sean St Ledger, Gelson Fernandes, Andy King 2012 John Pantsil, Jeff Schlupp, Sol Bamba, Sean St Ledger, Andy King 2013 Kasper Schmeichel, Jeff Schlupp, Jermaine Beckford, Wes Morgan, Simonas Stankevicus, Chris Wood, Sean St Ledger, Andy King 2014 Riyad Mahrez, Kasper Schmeichel, Jeff Schlupp, Marko Futacs, Wes Morgan, Simonas Stankevicus, Chris Wood, Harry Panayiotou, Alie Sesay, Andy King 2015 Riyad Mahrez, Andrej Kramaric, Kasper Schmeichel, Jeff Schlupp, Wes Morgan, Simonas Stankevicus, Chris Wood, Harry Panayiotou Now to work out who played who…
Nalis Posted 13 October 2015 Author Posted 13 October 2015 The problem with more recent years is that a lot of players were playing in different confederations therefore lessening the chance of facing each other...
ScouseFox Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 pontus kaamark's sweden beat frank sinclair's jamaica 2-1 just before the former left us in 1999; http://www.11v11.com/matches/sweden-v-jamaica-27-may-1999-266910/
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 I suppose it's likely that Lineker faced O'Neill or Ramsey in 1984, the last home championship season.
Finn Claw II Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 I suppose it's likely that Lineker faced O'Neill or Ramsey in 1984, the last home championship season. Thought that, you have O'Neill and Ramsey in the 85 game but no Lineker, he played in 86 game though. This website is pretty useful for those with time on their hands. http://www.11v11.com/matches/england-v-northern-ireland-15-october-1986-240093/
Finn Claw II Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 In September 2006, Gillespie faced Gudjonsson but Gillespie had moved on by that point...
Ric Flair Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 Surely Denmark have played Wales in recent years? King v Kasper? No?
shen Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 Crap... thought I had cracked it with McAuley playing against Tunchev in February 2008, a mere five months before Tunchev joined...
shen Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 I actually thought Eric Odhiambo made appearances for Tanzania while he was here. Probably FM that has screwed with my mind...
Trav Le Bleu Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 Thought I'd done it, but no. St Ledger played King 4 months before joining us
Izzy Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 Think Scousefox has got this.. Fair play if Scouse right. If so, I'm still amazed it's so long ago - 16 years? Maybe someone at the club or a City historian can confirm. I really thought some of the current squad would have played against each other quite recently. Maybe not!
MC Prussian Posted 13 October 2015 Posted 13 October 2015 If nominated, both Gökhan Inler and Christian Fuchs could face each other on 17th of November, when Austria welcome Switzerland for a friendly in Vienna...
KP Fox Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 pontus kaamark's sweden beat frank sinclair's jamaica 2-1 just before the former left us in 1999; http://www.11v11.com/matches/sweden-v-jamaica-27-may-1999-266910/ But he wasn't Leicester's Pontus because he left us a few days before the International. His last game for us being against Forest on 15th May 1999.
Facecloth Posted 14 October 2015 Posted 14 October 2015 But he wasn't Leicester's Pontus because he left us a few days before the International. His last game for us being against Forest on 15th May 1999. But he didn't leave until the July.
urban.spaceman Posted 15 October 2015 Posted 15 October 2015 why can't I remember who Colin Hill is? http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/page/playerdetails.php?pid=269 I can only vaguely recall him. 1-1 draw at Filbo with Luton stands out for some reason (probably because Iwan Roberts was my hero at the time and he scored right in front of me.. I was 11) Hill came on as a sub at Wembley 96 too, which also stands out for obvious reasons.
suffolk fox Posted 16 October 2015 Posted 16 October 2015 As a footnote to this debate way back in 1974 England played Northern Ireland at Wembley in the then home championships. England were under the temporary charge of Joe Marcer England had three Leicester players in their line up in Shilton, Weller and Worthington. Northern Ireland had two future Lcfc managers in theirs in Bryan Hamilton and Martin O'Neal #
LanguedocFox Posted 16 October 2015 Posted 16 October 2015 why can't I remember who Colin Hill is? That's so sad. He was a very tidy player, solid defender who was one of the unsung heroes of Brian Little's Wembley playoff teams in the early 90s. After he quit playing, he worked for City for a few years, and I met him once or twice ten or 12 years ago: nice bloke.
