trabuch Posted 17 October 2015 Posted 17 October 2015 Us fans had the last laugh Southampton fans had been goading us all game singing, Your effing Shit, your effing Shit it was so sweet at the end when we sang it back to them and rightly put them in their place. Stringer had a Stringer moment at that. "listen to the Leicester fans...oh don't, they're swearing" - but all I could hear was Leicester in the second half. - you had the best of the action.
LCFC95 Posted 17 October 2015 Posted 17 October 2015 Great game. I couldn't get a ticket so I bought one in the Southampton end... Only to be directly next to our own fans! I was the last seat before the netting to the right of the city fans (near the back) so at least I enjoyed some of the atmosphere!
Merging Cultures Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 You couldn't be anymore right with the end of your post. People are quick to judge and want in the next best thing when we do have a really good squad here. We do need a few additions to add more depth but I'm more than happy with the current crop we have. We have came so far in just the last few years, just look at last year for example, we was playing GTF and Hammond in CM and Konch at LB away at Chelsea Not quite sure what Kasper done wrong today, he does seem a little hesitant leaving his line sometimes but he nowhere near the worst keeper in the premier. Hardly quick to judge. KS has been with us for a while now and his abilities and deficiencies are well known. No one is saying he is the worst in the PL either, but that we would like better.
Sampson Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 Exactly! Schmeichel is a good shot stopper but we need much more than that at this level. Someone who can take control of crosses and is much better in his decision making. No one's saying he's the worst in the division, but if we want to establish ourself as a decent PL side, we need to improve. Most of us remember Tim Flowers who was a much better all round keeper at this level and so we know the kind of keeper we need if we're to establish ourselves at this level again, so it's not a case of not knowing what we've got. I think most of us recognise we have a superb attack and midfield, but could improve on the goalkeeping and defending positions.
st albans fox Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 Not going to defend kasper not coming for crosses but neither goal conceded was due to that so not sure why it's so relevant in this thread?
Sampson Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 Not going to defend kasper not coming for crosses but neither goal conceded was due to that so not sure why it's so relevant in this thread? It's his communication as much as his handling. The first goal was the perfect example of a situation he should be taking control of but he stayed glued to his line and there's no communication between him and the defence. No one in the defence knows when he's coming and when he's staying. He just inspires no confidence. Then on the other hand when he came charging out like a lunatic in the second half and was rounded by Mane and if it weren't for Simpson saving his bacon we'd be 3 down.

Being stuck to his line is frustrating but he will save us more points than lose us so I'm not sure what the problem is. He seems pretty settled here, defence trusts him and he is still very young for a goal keeper.

He seems pretty settled here, defence trusts him and he is still very young for a goal keeper. But he hasn't "saved us more points than he loses us" since we've been in the PL has he? I can honestly only think of about 3 or 4 stand out performances from him in the PL and they were all at the end of last season and have looked the exception rather than the rule so far. When you look back, the best we've looked defensively and the most clean sheets we've kept in the PL was when he was out injured and we had Hamer in goal.I'm really not sure I agree the defence trusts him at all. I don't think the defence ever have any idea whether he's coming for a ball or isn't. Yes, he saved us a lot of points in the Championship, but he's just hasn't been doing that in the PL for us and as much as I'd like him to be, he just doesn't look like a PL quality keeper.

The first goal was the perfect example of a situation he should be taking control of but he stayed glued to his line and there's no communication between him and the defence. . On that specific goal, you think he should be at the front third of the six yard box??? He'd have to be faster than usain bolt to get there from a corner. Fonte got a run on wes and got in front of kante who is supposed to be the zonal man shielding the near post delivery. more wes' fault than ngolo but both shouldn't be beaten to the ball. How kasper is responsible for that ....................
crisp packet Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 Not sure where kasper was to blame? Both goals was Morgan's man ? Kante is the near post/edge of the six yard box shield. Morgan lost his man.... Kasper played a massive part in our run in last season . Short memories ? We are 5th ffs enjoy it!!!
chapero82 Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 Whenever I say we won't score we always score so thought I would post it and we scored twice, literally the first goal was dead on

I think the defence is not that they are bad defenders just that Huth and Wes are not fast enough for our attacking play, we need at least one quick CB

Kasper played a massive part in our run in last season . Short memories ? We are 5th ffs enjoy it!!! Schmeichel was dire for most of last season though and most on here were agreeing he should be considered 3rd choice before he came back in April time though. It's not "short memories" - it's taking the whole of the last season and a quarter rather than just a handful of games and I just don't see it. His good run at the end of last season has been the exception rather than the rule since we've been promoted. No one's "not enjoying it". This is one of the best attacks and midfield we've had in an age. We're just saying there's clearly issues with the goalkeeper and defence which need to be improved if we're going to build and help establish ourself as a good PL side over the longer term. As the goals will not come every week - we'll inevitably come to a spell when they dry up a bit and you just can't see us defensively making up for it and trying to grind out a 0-0 or 1-0 when they don't.

He haven't got a tally of times it could of been a draw or lose to lose points and KS has saved us from it but 9 times out of 10 he will pull of a save out the ordinary. Yes Hamer did well last year and I felt like he should of had a better run in the side from the performances he was given but there must be a reason 2 managers have made him their first choice in the premier league and Hamer being 3rd/being loaned out- that's not a dig at Hamer cause I like him but he obviously still needs to improve his game. I think they trust him, there doesn't seem to be many occasions where people look hesitant/worried to get Kasper involved in the game. Along the ground he is quick off his line will deal with the attacker who's behind the defence. Even some of the best keepers will make some highlighted mistakes throughout a season, Cech has done some at the start. Maybe we play our attacking style because the team has more trust in Kasper rather than being more defensively set up to cover someone like Schwarzer? Who lets be honest was woeful! He is just a scapegoat for this week as he was hesitant on the edge of the box with Mane and everyone thought he should of meet both crosses. As I said he frustrates me sometimes with how static he is on his line with crosses at times but not sure how much he could of done with the crosses yesterday, it was poor marking by us rather than Kasper not meeting the ball near the penalty spot. As I said before, if he is such a poor keeper for us then who is the better alternative we should be trying to sign and it also needs to be realistic because Buffon isn't coming here for shit!
Spudulike Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 A major component of our continued success is the spirit amongst the squad and Kasper is very much part of that. This team needs to be preserved for as long as possible.
Guest Col city fan Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 So so proud of that comeback and we were much the better side in the second half. We could have won that game. The team spirit this team has is unbelievable.
foxfanazer Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 I bet Vardy had a sleepless night thinking about that miss at 2-1. He was superb again though

Where are these 9 times out of 10 he will perform a save out of the ordinary? So far this season I recall one save against Palace at the near post which I wouldn't expect any other keeper to make. But again, you need much more than just being a shot stopper at this level. You need to be confident gathering crosses, organise your defence and be dominant in your decision making and I just don't see Schmeichel having those qualities.I never said he wasn't better than Schwarzer. I'm not into naming replacements from players I discovered on a computer games. It's not about cherry picking names. Our scouting system is excellent and I'd trust them to bring an appropriate player in, but we could clearly do better than him for the level we are at and we need to do better if we want to stay at this level when we hit the inevitable blip in form. We're not a Championship side anymore, you need more than a decent shot-stopper. He's not a scape goat this week, people have been saying it all season and the majority of last season too.
st albans fox Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 I bet Vardy had a sleepless night thinking about that miss at 2-1. He was superb again though can believe JV can have any problems sleeping after the effort he puts into a game! I reckon he'll be more disappointed that he couldn't finish such a great move than he missed the chance.

This team needs to be preserved for as long as possible. Based on what? Because he's loud and confident? People said the same about Nugent. If you find an upgrade in the transfer market you bring it in and improve on your base. You have no idea which players are essential to the team atmosphere. None of us do, it's a completely abstract concept anyway.

Not criticising him, just think he's the sort of personality that will beat himself up a little bit about missing chances. He's just a pleasure to watch nowadays
CosbehFox Posted 18 October 2015 Posted 18 October 2015 On the goalkeeper debate, the Sun has linked us to Jordan Pickford, 21 year old Sunderland keeper whose on loan to Preston North End.

It's not about 'cherry picking' a name from a computer game. It sounds like you have looked at the table and seen we are 5th, read some of the comments off here and now believe we need a better goalkeeper. If you are unaware of any other keepers how do you know that Kasper isn't better than what's out there? Ok I'll make it a little easier, if you are unaware of any goalkeepers from any computer game then what goalkeeper in the premiership would you like Kasper to be like? Like I've said before, he is still young for a goalkeeper and he is a good goalkeeper for our club and for the team, I'm sure Man Utd fans wanted to get rid of De Gea a few seasons into his premier league experience- that's not saying that KS will hit the heights of De Gea but give him time to develop too. We have had a lot of shit at this club and I still think Kasper has a lot to offer rather than trying to move on Championship side has nothing to do with it too, half our team is from the core of that championship side but I'm guessing you are suggesting we should get rid of them now too as we are a Premiership side? And glad to see you trust our scouting system, would be nice to see you trust our management/coaching staff that they are picking the right team/tactics
