I suggest ullouh starts against teams like this to prevent danger at set pieces.

He would have ably marked any big guy.

We have to remain balanced as a unit while maintaining the pace of our attacking, which is our major strength.

But it isn't easy fitting all our individual components into the most suitable machine. Every option exposes different limitations.

And all the options that balance best involve the inclusion of an extra player! Don't think we can get away with that! :D

My 2 options would be to play Mahrez behind Vardy with Schlupp and Dyer on the wings. I like Schlupp more than Albrighton, pace kills teams and Schlupp is lightening quick, I think he's the better player. The other option would be Dyer and Mahrez on the wing with Ulloa up with Vardy in a 4-4-2.

1) Mahrez

2) Dyer

3) Schlupp

4) Albrighton

Is how I rank our wingers. IMO humble opinion of course.

Schlupps end products stats are poor in comparison to Albrighton. He has the pace but most of the time he doesn't deliver well enough.

I hope Ian Wright is on motd tonight!

Bald Geordie and 'Irish' Kevin Kilbane.

There are so many like that, I'm living in a big Southampton catchment area and a lot of friends think they're the gift of the Premier League.

It was like playing Stoke of 2009 today, they were useless other than the set plays.

Felt so good given they sung about us being "fvcking shit" for a good 40 minutes.

Had to tell one of them who was double my age to calm down whilst walking away; someone simply asked him how they beat Chelsea 3-1 and he flipped.

I was shocked by them, not watched them much but they were nothing like the fantastic pass and move team that got promoted and did so well for s few years.

Seemed very much like they were more traditional English team coming from wide and crossing to a big man. They used to cause havoc through the middle but barely got a sniff today in open play.

im not sure why everyone was that surprised tbh. since april last year they've had one good result (vs chelsea last time out, which was as much to do with chelsea being dogs than southampton being brazil).

in that time (17 games) they've only beaten hull at home, villa at home, norwich at home and swansea at home. they've failed to beat newcastle, sunderland, watford, west brom, us (twice), stoke etc etc. they're as run of the mill mid table as everyone else these days. mane sometimes does a step over or something but other than that they might as well be stoke. same kit an all. shite.

Spot on. It took 10 years out of our lives, now enjoy these ups and downs. This is the Premier league,

sometimes I believe some fans forget,....hey we are fifth, lost 1 game this season.

Some say..yakky yakkity it could of been better...if !!

Could of been worse, many of you would of now been happy with Stoke or Norwich position.

Again we are 5th with a 9 goal top scorer, who hmmm is an England International.

We have 2 avg players from last season hitting the highs in Vardy n Mahrez.Schlupp hitting his straps,

a little winger turning it on.Dyer A midfield who unlike last season can stop, trap, and pass a ball.

Albrighton now our most consistent player.

CBs, maybe picking balls out the net, but not making howler

Love it - ss like last year.

We have, opposition fans, tv, radio pundits saying what an exciting side we are.

A manager, who doesnt need to make daft remarks and has a permanent smile...

Miserable negative posters, who are just being laughed at, and dont understand we prefer the positive vibes.

Love it - spot on !

I just don't get posts like this. It's good that Ranieri corrects his mistakes at HT, but why is it wrong to criticise his original mistake (team selection and formation).

We are clearly better suited to all-out attack as the best means of defence, and with 3 CBs. This was amply demonstrated at the end of last season.

Wish people would sod off with the 3 at the back nonsense

Well what do you suggest? In Fonte, Van Dyke, Wanyama and Pelle Southampton had four huge targets for set pieces. After Wes, Huth and perhaps Fuchs, we have nobody else who can match them for size and we were always likely to struggle at set-pieces.

"What do you suggest?" - Ulloa.

A quarter of the season gone and we're 5th in the league. Incredible really

And still more encouraging given that the bottom three are at least 12 points adrift of us and averaging half a point per game or less. Even a point a game is relegation form. In terms of deficit it's like they're running a mile race and are already close to being lapped once.

It was the sheer number of big players they had that did us first half (one being offside). They didn't create much from open play and I'd rather judge the defence on that today.

Agreed. So, I can assume that you don't think it was all Morgan's fault either like some on here?

Long drive back – made to feel shorter by another amazing second half and the other results going our way.

So, so happy about our progress. 16 points after 9 games is the stuff of dreams.

Frankly, I don't want to concentrate on any negatives (lack of clean sheets, the old weakness of conceding from set pieces, our slow starts) but rather just look at the positives. We're 25 points from safety with 29 games to go. We seem to find a way of coming back from tight spots. First Villa, then Stoke and now Southampton – three times that we've come back from 0-2 down to secure 7 points. Amazing.

Not since the MON years have I felt this, a confidence in our ability to get results. Long time coming and long may it continue. For those worrying about our weaknesses - don't. Just enjoy another amazing season which is increasingly unlikely to end in relegation and more likely to include a decent cup run and some (even more) memorable moments in the league.

We are playing a different system this season and are still 5th in the league. If anything, we look even more dangerous now

"Even more dangerous" - that's a matter of opinion. My take on it is this: As a squad we are still ideally suited to 3-5-2 or 3-4-3, and playing 3 at the back definitely sorted our defensive problems last season. If we could replicate those defensive performances of the run-in last season then we would be giving ourselves a better chance in games and therefore more likely to do even better than we are already doing.

I'm not satisfied with our league position when I think we could be even higher (especially as I have money on us to win the league!!). Whatever ... the team are doing great.

Didn't have a stream. What was the formation second half? 4231 with Mahrez just behind Vardy? Or did Mahrez play as a striker?

Google: footballstreaming.info- it's been working ok for me the last couple of weeks-touch wood.

Anyone got a clip of Drinky's goal line save? That was amazing

Wasn't just the save but the way he got quickly into position when he saw the cross coming over. Real quality. He is going to be a top player if he keeps on developing: just needs to keep his head down when he shoots from distance!

Thought albrighton did pretty well tbh, worked his socks off and was on the ball alot trying to get the ball forward as often as possible.

Yes, Albrighton played well. A must start player.

All out attack?

Can't recall a game back end last year where we went for it the whole 90 mins. It's not physically possible. I think Claudio wants to keep it as tight as he can until it's time to let us off the leash. We're great going forward but you can't just attack for the whole game.

Yes, I can see your point. However, his plan is flawed because he isn't able to set us up to be tight, so that by the time he "let's them off the leash" there is too much to make up.

My main point, though, is that if you think that Ranieri has made errors then you have a right to have an opinion on the matter and to voice it.

We should've scored about 3 goals from Albrighton crosses within the first 10 minutes had Vardy's finishing been better and Okazaki not been about 3ft tall.

He was out of the game a bit second half, but I thought Albrighton was comfortably our best player first half and about the only player to come out the first half with any credit. Had a good game overall.

The co commentator over here in the States said that Vardy "epitomises everything I love about football". It's such a good thing to hear about a city player.

That was Danny Higgingbotham(sp?), definitely one of the better pundits.

Really enjoyable game to watch. Standout players for me are Vardy and Kante, duracell batteries they're better than that.

This City side is on fire; I would love us to finish 4th and win a cup that would be f**king unbelievable but anything's possible.

We are amazing. I love it. This is brilliant.

(December will be really difficult)

Great to see you both today. I'm never watching Frankie Boyle again though.

I can't hack this coming back from two down every week. My heart can't take it!
