Captain... Posted 2 November 2015 Posted 2 November 2015 Utterly incredible. I've never seen a team time waste in the first half before so actually anybody who says Pulis is a dinosaur is wrong, he's actually quite the innovator. Nothing annoys me more than time wasting, it's pathetic I know but I've paid £x (usually a lot) to watch a game of football not watch Craig Dawson dry the ball or watch Stephane Sessegnon crawl to the corner flag. You weren't at West Brom at home last season then. Shocking team, and I have never left a game so angry as that one.
SpacedX Posted 2 November 2015 Posted 2 November 2015 He may not have been born during the events of Bloody Sunday, but it'd be naive to the extreme to suggest they didn't have any sort of lasting impact on Derry, and let's be quite clear, the freedoms that the combatants of the two world wars fought for include the freedom of expression, including his freedom not to wear a poppy. Trying to shame him into doing so is frankly more of an insult to them than him not wearing one. Agree, a 15 minute walk around Bogside is ample testament to that. Also agree that it is McClean's right and prerogative not to wear a poppy, although I have always regarded it as a symbol of the fallen and far from being any glorification of conflict it encourages remembrance of lives lost as a consequence of war - on all sides. There is also the question of respect, and taken to its logical extreme, should it also not be the right not to observe the one minute silence at a public event? (which represents the same rationale as the poppy symbolises) - Simply playing Devils Advocate here. If the chanting at the Hawthorns was deplorable, I was at Meadow Lane on Saturday where, albeit a very small minority of Pompey fans, sang abuse at the County fans through this - much to the outrage of their own. Particularly perplexing and mystifying given Portsmouth's naval association. On a positive note, Jack Barmby looked very promising and both League 2 sides played some very attractive football without the melodrama and primadonna posturing that the Premiership is so disposed to.
oli fox Posted 2 November 2015 Posted 2 November 2015 Dermot Gallagher has had his say on the decisions this weekend..... http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/10053195/ref-watch-dermot-gallagher-reviews-the-weekend-decisions His view on the Mahrez offside is a bit strong..... "It should have been definitely ruled out. The key issue is the start position of the player, he is clearly ahead of play. The assistant referee has not spotted it. It does strike the West Brom player on the way through, but that is a red herring, as the player must deliberately play the ball which he has not done." Looking at it on Motd, the graphic they used makes it look at lot closer than "clearly ahead of play". Its marginal to say the least.

As I pointed out earlier, could Demot please look at Vardy as the cross comes in. If West Brom are going to claim a penno for everything, then that's a foul on him and should have been a penalty before the ball ever reached Mahrez.

The wording of the question is skewed though, the scenario states that Mahrez is standing in an off-side position and the ball deflects off the defender, does that mean he isn't off-side as it came off the defender? No he is still offside. It is marginal, but in the scenario it is not adjudging how offside he was. He did ignore the foul on Vardy, the fact West Brom's penalty shouldn't have been given, and the blatant cheating dive by the touchline in the second half (was that McManaman?) when Albrighton made no contact whatsoever.

Danizen Posted 2 November 2015 Posted 2 November 2015 Pulis has been charged with improper conduct following the match - apparently used inappropriate/foul/abusive language. Rattled . He should have been charged for his post-match comments. He stopped just short of saying there's a huge conspiracy against West Brom of all teams.

MC Prussian Posted 2 November 2015 Posted 2 November 2015 Should be charged for playing improper football. Opposing fans should voluntarily start chanting "He's a time-waster" to the tune of Nelly Furtado's "Maneater".
oxford blue Posted 2 November 2015 Posted 2 November 2015 I don't rate Garth Crooks for his comments nor do I usually look at his team of the week, but I can't disagree with obvious inclusion of Mahrez and Vardy, and comments... Mahrez: I suppose if you are going to be ghosting in from either side of the pitch to score two brilliantly taken goals you might as well do it on Halloween weekend. Mahrez was reminiscent of former West Ham, Spurs and Norwich player Martin Peters at his best the way he floated in on West Brom's blind side. I can't think of better days than these for Leicester City. They have scored 23 Premier League goals this season already and Mahrez and Vardy have netted 18 of them, putting the club third in the Premier League table. Hardly surprising then that manager Claudio Ranieri considers himself to be a very lucky man to be experiencing this extraordinary period in the club's history. He's certainly got that right. Because it was Nigel Pearson who created the team, developed it and breathed life into it before being unceremoniously sacked for reasons I still can't quite understand. And about Vardy: What a great touch and fabulous movement by Vardy to score for the eighth consecutive league game. There are very few centre forwards who can make their own goals but Vardy can. His blistering pace allows him to get away from defenders if the set-up play is right. Such was the case against West Brom when the England striker ripped the heart out of the Baggies with an emphatic finish. That brings me to England's next international fixture and the necessity for Roy Hodgson to play Vardy up front and Rooney just behind. A move that will bring the best out of both players and a point that appears to have been lost on United boss Van Gaal, who still seems to think that Rooney is a dedicated centre forward.
