bovril Posted 3 November 2015 Posted 3 November 2015 I think we can and should get a better goalkeeper.
shailen Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 What do people expect? We do not have the quality like a Man City or Madrid to stick 6 goals against an opposition and keep a clean sheet on a regular basis. They have quality individuals who do this for them. Everything we do has to be done well as a team. We attack and defend as a team. So there has to be some sacrifice. Our strengths are definitely in attack and we should play to our strengths but we don't have world class defenders and world class strikers to balance the two things out. It's one thing that always gets me. Defenders are not only responsible for defending and attackers for attacking. It's a team game. I for one prefer this we will score one more ideology, then watching us sit back and lose 1-0. It is a weakness to our game to concede atm, but we will have to sacrifice something unless we bring in better quality who wouldn't come to us anyway. Catch 22.
ozleicester Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Play to score and win.. risk being scored against and losing. Working thus far
justfoxes Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Would be a great intention by the club to bring in a couple of real quality defenders not only to tighten up the back but to give Huth and Morgan a bit of competition for the defensive places could really do with 2 real premier league quality defenders to protect Kasper!
C-man Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 In terms of points earned as a percentage of points available, we are 15th across Europe's top 5 leagues but you have to go down to 56th place (Espanyol) before you find a team conceding as many per game as us. A byproduct of that is that only Dortmund have a higher total goals per game average than us across Europe right now. We're damn fun to watch.
richardsfoxes Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Set pieces are a problem and we struggle with pace as seen against Arsenal with Theo and Alexis,
The Railway Man Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 We can't defend set plays and our full backs aside from Fuchs are poverty.
simon789us Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Goals conceded are a problem we all know that need to tighten up goal dif could be the difference between finishing in top six or mid table
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Set pieces constantly a problem. Though were also bad under NP too. Just never look confident at defending them. Really do need to sort it out though.
Russell sprout Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 As long as we score more or the same as the opposition I couldn't care less, We get overly entertained as fans, Much better than keeping clean sheets but struggling from the front imo
AyewJoking Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Our defence is school boy at times but its masked by our attack. The flat back 4 clearly isnt as strong as the 5 we could play but if it aint broke, dont fix it. (in our case it is broke but our vardy attack is working overtime.
AKCJ Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 I think we need a new leader in the centre of defence to be honest. I think Simpson is playing okay but could be improved and I would look to improve Kasper's competition.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Simple, we play a risky game. For the opposite of us look at Man United, no risk - no goals scored and none conceded. I'm OK with staying as we are thanks!

I'm OK with staying as we are thanks! I don't think it is that simple that we concede too many goals because we over commit in the pursuit of goals. We have to be trying to get the optimal return and if we were better defensively we may have scored five goals less and conceded ten less which would have given us more points. At the moment we appear to have "cracked" the offensive side of the game and our goals scored is the second highest in the league but if we have any ambitions of a squeak at the Champions League places which are definitely up for grabs this year then we need to get mean with our goals against even if it's at a slight detriment to our goals scored. I would like to think our football analysts are compiling a dossier of every shot we concede in the box and highlighting to CR the common themes to these chances.
Mjeb Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 I do not think Kasper helps - he does not come for crosses which are generally set play situations . He does make up for it in many other ways. . CR - is well aware of the problem , it will get sorted in January . Up the City

I think you can be most successful by committing to one aspect of the game and really specialising in it. We do this with pace and energy. Pulis has done this most of his career by going the other way and sacrificing any attacking intent for keeping a solid shape with big players. For us to be in 3rd is an incredible achievement, its about at the upper limit of our ability and to be honest, I wouldn't have us change anything.
Andrelton Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 Much better than keeping clean sheets but struggling from the front imo Struggle at the front and everyone's in an uproar calling for changes, all the discourse is tiresome. As it is, goals conceded is a casual also-topic. Could be worse.
Oxfordfox83 Posted 4 November 2015 Posted 4 November 2015 The likes of Morgan and Simpson are playing to the best of their ability so if we want to push through that limit we basically have no option but to buy better defenders. That's not to say the current defenders are bad players, what we're talking about here is an improvement which would have seen us several points clear at the top of the premier league by now had we done it in the summer. The current players are good enough to get us where we are, but if we want even better than that then we need new players imho Do you play a lot of Champ Manager by any chance?
