"black Friday" deals

Black Friday and Cyber Monday can both kiss my hairy ginger ass. We're such sheep in this country following the yanks and its fvckin embarrassing. Good luck to those of you who get suckered in to buying discontinued, clearance shite and think you're getting a bargain. Price establishment is alive and well and we all fall for it, every time.

In all fairness, as much as I dislike Black Friday there ARE some genuine sales to be had. Last year one store had s 40 inch tv for $120. That's much more than half the price of a regular 40 inch tv..

If people have really got the time and inclination to queue up for hours in the freezing cold to then get trampled on and pushed over all for the sake of saving $200 then fair play to them. My guess is that the TV you mention is a shite brand, old stock and probably won't last that long - you get what you pay for I reckon. Time is money in my book and it's just not worth the hassle for me. I'm sure there are genuine sales to be had but I'll be staying as far away as possible from the shops on Black Friday thanks.

the **** have i just read

More common than you think, I worked with a guy who genuinely thought it was called "black friday" due to the amount of ethnic customers it seemed to attract. The mind boggles.

What a crock of shit though, take on Thanksgiving instead if we have to do something, a day full of NFL and then pure gluttony with a giant turkey.

I feel like Black Friday is dying a slow death in the states. Every store begins opening earlier and earlier on Thanksgiving day (Thursday) in order to compete with each other. Instead of people lining up at like 8pm to get in line for the doorbuster sales that start at midnight, the stores are already open at like 6pm.

The sales in general are no better than the ones you can find online. Sure you'll still see in the news a handful of incidents every year, because giving out free or significantly "discounted" crap will bring out the idiots. I couldn't be bothered to stand outside in the cold for 4 hours to buy a bunch of cheaply manufactured crap.

Should have a 'White Day' as well imo, considering this generation is starting to make/want things equal in this world.

I agree about the crapness of the product, but there is more to it than that. The cheap tvs ARE a great bargain, but most stores will take a hit and make very little profit, if any, on several lines of products for a couple of  reasons... one being their company image. If they don't do a black friday sale and their competitor does then that paints them. psychologically, in a bad image. If in the future you are looking for something then you'll have a more positive feeling about going to the place that ' treated you well'. 2ndly it gets the idiots at Detroit so correctly put it to 'catch the bug' and they often end up buying the stuff that is still heavily discounted but enables the store to  clear out old stock.

Last year i went late in the afternoon to one store to get some tools i wanted that were discounted no ques at the tills, nothing.. All the crazies had gone and all of the cheapo stuff had too. But my wife and I like to make stuff so to buy a large set of power tools for 40% off was a good deal for me. We have made  a table, two chicken coops, shelves and a cabinet with them so for me it was worth it. They were a decent brand too. Been selling in Lowes ( equivalent of B&Q) all year . we have 3 professional contractors i the family over here and they all use them and happily paid the full price for them so i would like to think i used the sales for the right reasons but im also sure the store still made a profit on them....

How boring. If you haven't had to smash someone's skull in for £5 off something you will get no use out of its not worth it IMO.
