Penalty Taker

Vardy all day. Mahrez has cost us 3 today and getting knocked out the cup with that stupid little run up he does. At least with Vardy he hit them with power.

Ohhhhhh I've found another thread with knee-jerking.

Honestly it must be a stylistic thing. People aren't comfortable unless someone is running up at full speed, smashing the ball as hard as they can.

People seem to be forgetting the TWO class penalties Mahrez took against Everton. And the numerous others he's tucked in the corner this season. One fvcking miss and he's the new Kermorgant  lol .

If I could be arsed to trawl back through the LCFC whatsapp group on my phone when we average about 200 messages a day and I initially made the comment myself in October just to appease you then I would. But I can't lol

I'll tell you exactly what I thought and said to those I was with ... "Phew they went in but he's going to miss some in the future because they were SO well placed he won't be able to do that all the time."

Tbh I'm just really pissed off today cus I thought we lost 2 points ........ :(

So you're saying he was so good he shouldn't take them, because he won't always be brilliant? That sir, is not a great argument.

It's not a knee jerk reaction to him missing today, but Mahrez has never filled me with confidence when taking a penalty, especially with that shitey stutter technique, what the **** is that about? Gives you no momentum to get greater power, which means the ball is going to be travelling slower which gives the goalkeeper more time to react on top of already having not to commit himself because of the time it would take to take the penalty. If I was a goalkeeper I'd feel much more confident of saving a penalty watching someone stutter than watching someone running at it and twatting it as hard as they can.

Did you mention it after Everton... No you didn't. So it's knee jerk.

Thing is it doesn't matter whether he fills you with confidence or not.

He's buried a lot of penalties perfectly in the corner of the goal. Some even where the keeper has gone the right way. For some reason today he went for height and that made it easier for the 'keeper.

Everyone makes mistakes.

Exactly.

I didn't feel confident today, not because of his style but because he's not been able to pass the ball 6 yards to a blue shirt, let alone slot one away from the spot.

you taking the fvcking piss? What about Vardy missing from few yards out? Do you think he cost us 3?

Morgan from about 2 yards out? Do you think he cost us 3 points?

Vardy is our centre forward. His principle purpose is to score goals, as many as he can. It should be his responsibility the same as Kasper's responsibie for saving opposition penalties. Or do people suggest Mahrez does that as well?

Poor penalty but shit happens, linesman also failed to notice keeper was about a yard off the line before the ball was hit.

Good point, at least a yard I'd say. This was picked up in the match thread. Still, the pen was a nice height for the keeper

We should never have a set penalty taker, we should have 3 or 4 (say Fuchs, Mahrez, Vardy, Drinkwater/Albrighton) so that it doesn't become too obvious. It's only natural that players have favourite sides and the one time Mahrez did go the opposite way, at Everton, it wasn't particularly convincing.

Even if it is obvious, a good penalty shouldn't be saveable.

Penalties aren't instinctive, they require precision. Vardy smashes them, which some will find great til he smashes one over the bar, and then we will ask why we don't have someone with better technique on them. Like Mahrez.

What an amazing set of views! I think we should get Konch back....he took a brilliant penalty!

Everyone is much more prone to miss nowadays, as the research on how players take them is much more detailed. Mahrez has done a decent job. Vardy is even more predictable as he smashes them, but down the middle. If he took them every time, I'd bet it wont be long before keepers sussed his style out, or he blasts one over the bar. Nugent never filled me with much confidence, I always expected his to be saved. Gally has been our best penalty taker in recent times.

The bigger picture is we have 40 points from 20 games and it's 2nd January!!! We are second in the P/L. 18 other teams would snatch our hands off to be in our position. (Especially Villa!) :D

To stay there we need some top players in during January to provide cover. Too many players are starting to look knackered and need a rest. Ranieri said after the Liverpool game our style of play is exhausting. It's now showing.

I don't remember Southampton fans calling for several penalty takers in LeTiss days. In fact I doubt they'd have accepted any other taker even if the bloke was on crutches.

Id love to know the average penalty scoring ratio for the last few years in the premier league and see if we're behind that this season, your bound to miss some time, we have good ratio,

Yes they were all good chances and should of scored but a penalty at any level is a free chance to score. Mahrez for all his good work this season for me is not our best penalty taker.

yet he's only missed one out of 5 or 6?

He didn't 'cost us 3 points' as you have said. It's not a free chance to score either lol. If there was no keeper you'd have a decent point.

What cost us 3 points was the accumulation of chances missed and not being able to break down a spirited and stubborn Bournemouth side. They defended well and stopped our threats. you can't pin the blame solely on Mahrez.
