The Year Of The Fox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 This isn't a knee jerk reaction to today by any means as I remember saying the following to my mates a few months ago. Neither Mahrez or Vardy have ever filled me with confidence when stepping up to take a penalty in the same way that Gally or even Nugent did. I'm aware they've both scored more than they've missed but today apart has no one else thought this before? Who would you have instead? Fuchs seems to have a pile driver of a left foot as does Drinkwater. I know Mahrez 'let' Vardy take that penalty v Watford a few weeks ago, but to me that just summed up that neither have the 'official' penalty taker stamp next to their name. Like we knew Gally would always take them, and the same for Nugent. Thoughts?

Mahrez just takes em too unnecessary. Missed now vs Hull and here. Vardy takes em properly, smashes it and hadn't yet missed. Plesse stick Vards on them for now

wardyfox86 Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Definitely Fuchs. Not a fan of the 'fancy' penalties that Mahrez takes, and Vardy always seems destined to sky one. That said, there must be some practice on the training ground at least, and that nobody else seems to be stepping up says alot.
STUHILL Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Vardy seems to just smash it so it will go wrong at some point. Was a poor penalty today but we all know Mahrez has got such a wand of a left foot so I would stick with him for next few unless misses again.

Today's was poor but he's put away at least 4 that were unstoppable. Mahrez as we know is excellent at placing the ball- usually. But it's his faltering run up that gets me. Never makes me confident. As others have said- at least Vardy puts his foot through it, although he doesn't fill me with confidence either

NewEnglandFox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 I complained about this after Mahrez's miss against Hull to no avail but maybe someone will hear me out here. Mahrez has done the shutter step to the right side 5 of 6 times this year. No surprise to me that keeper chose to go that way.

Harry - LCFC Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Vardy takes it like he wants to put the ball in. Mahrez takes them like he wants to score with a bit of flair. Really not keen on players waiting for the keeper to dive, you can't rely on him letting you score.

If you're going to go for precision you've got to put it low or high into the corner, not at the perfect height and distance for the keeper to save.
