I can't find it in me to criticise Mo to much, he was a batter who bowled before he played for England, now he's supposed to be a match winning spinner in India - it was never going to happen. The fact is that he would be a brilliant option batting at 6 and playing as a 2nd, or in the subcontinent, 3rd spinner. Just look at how they have messed around with him in the batting order. Lets face it, we all knew England had very little chance of succeeding here unless they unearthed a proper specialist spinner in the summer just gone and they steadfastly refused to give the likes of Leach or Raynor or take a go. They really let themselves down with some of the selections this year. Expecting Mo and Rashid to bowl sides out in India is the modern day equivalent of expecting Mark Ealham and Chalky White to bowls sides out in England! Even with this team there were times when India's batting looked vulnerable and times when if Ashwin wasn't taking wickets they looked a bit flat with the ball but we just never finished them off when we had the chances to do so. Momentum is priceless in modern test cricket and once we let India off the hook once or twice they just grew and grew in confidence and we went the other way. It's time for Cook to go - yes we have won regularly under him but we have also been quite easy to beat at times - even at home. It seems to be all or nothing with this England team with him as captain. Bangladesh being another recent example. Hopefully this summer will see us find a couple of new consistent batters and a couple of penetrating bowlers, because there is talent in this team and with a couple of additions we could be a force to be reckoned with. Corky Posted 20 December 2016 Share Posted 20 December 2016 India have been superior but we've let ourselves down hugely, the spin department has been dreadful and the batting extremely brittle. Cook is on his way out as captain, you don't talk about possibly going before losing 4-0 and stay on really. He should remain as an opener though. Agree good times are ahead with a couple of additions. What to do with Moeen I don't have a clue, he isn't getting any better with the ball and that's his job in the team, he doesn't have the technique to bat in the top 6 outside of Asia (some would argue that's still a push here given the way he was still taken apart by the short ball even on flat pitches), do we stick with him as our frontline spinner, turn it over to Rashid (a diff captain might put more trust in him) or start afresh with someone new and try to blood them into a top class International bowler? I don't expect him to be a match winner but tan average of 65 in India with the ball is pitiful, i wouldn't expect Root to have that if he was out no 1. Cook Hameed Jennings Root Bairstow Stokes Woakes Broad Anderson I think those nine are the certs for the XI come the summer, so the decision seems to be does Rashid, Ali play or do we turn to a Leach, Raynor or even Crane, if it's the former or a new player they slot in at 8 and Buttler or Duckett play as a batsman, if it's Ali he probably goes in at 7 and we push everyone up a space and bring in another fast bowler. I think I'm going with Rashid for a starter now, terribly expensive but his job is to take wickets and he did do that even if it was mainly sweeping up the tail whch means Buttler comes in with Bairstow playing as a batsman. Guest MattP Posted 6 January 2017 Share Posted 6 January 2017 Surprised no one has mentioned the Kyle Abbott and Rilee Rossow story, he opened the bowling for South Africa in a test match last week, then gave up his career to play for Hampshire, the latter is a regular in the ODI side and has played test match cricket. The quota system and the weakness of the rand is going to destroy South African cricket. Maybe we should be looking at a couple of white South Africa A players to shore up Leicestershire for a few years before the end of Kolpak, we could probably secure a couple of top class players on 5 year contracts in the same way Hampshire have. No doubt they'll be free to feature in some of the T20 leagues around the world too.

foxy boxing Posted 22 January 2017 Share Posted 22 January 2017 Unbelievable how close that was! Well done England's bowlers. It looked like India were going to do it but our bowlers stayed strong

marko Posted 29 January 2017 Share Posted 29 January 2017 Anyone else watching the T20? I suspect umpire Shamshuddin is playing for his IPL contract. On a serious note, the ICC have to introduce a review when there are two home umpires. His decision for the Kohli LBW was simply bias. Edit: Another poor decision by umpire Shamshuddin! Your brown envelope and IPL contract will be in the post.
