The People's Hero Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 Hi All Met someone who really urged me to go and get a tarot reading and swore by one particular person. I'm not in to all that, but I did realise it was something I've never given any thought. I am unlikely to get any readings, but it did pique my interest since this chap who recommended it is someone I have a lot of respect for. He's an intelligent well qualified professional and very good at cutting through BS due to the nature of his job. A strange candidate to be in to it you might think. I certainly did. Anyone have any experience with these sorts of people / services / readings ? I always sort of dismissed it as guesswork and cliched props. Is it more mainstream than I thought? Anyone have experience and what do you make of it ? I'm not interested in anyone who hasn't tried the services out since ultimately you're likely to think exactly what I do now. I'm looking for input from those who have had readings in the past. I should have asked this chap if he booked in advance and used his full name
MikeyT Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 Me and my mrs went to one about two years ago. Got a fair few things right about my mrs, but soda all about me. She said i used to sit with my grandpa and make wooden trains with him. Don't think so love. For on my mother was adopted and never knew her parents and my dad's dad died around the time I was born so never knew him either. A few other tings that made no sense either. Would save your money! A load of old tosh.
The People's Hero Posted 31 January 2016 Author Posted 31 January 2016 I probably didn't make it clear enough; I'm not going to go anyway. I don't think I'd want to take the chance of being given either positive or negative predictions since it simply must even on a subconscious level affect your outlook/decision making. I'd sooner just not know and try to pretend that I'm in control of my own destiny ( inspiring / depressing depending on mood!) Just curious as to people's actual experiences as I was so shocked to hear such positive things from a man I'd always seen as cynical and quite matter of fact.
MikeyT Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 She told my mrs that she would soon be getting a promotion at work and she did. That's about one of the only main things she was spot on with. But she did also say she would be pregnant soon as well, and two years down the line she is still not.
The People's Hero Posted 31 January 2016 Author Posted 31 January 2016 for crackpots. I would say it's more often for the vulnerable / grieving similar. Has a value for some even if it's just reassurance and comfort. I wouldn't put it anywhere above or below organised religion but there again, this is a thread which is asking for experiences and I specifically stated I wasn't interested in the uninformed opinions and preconceptions of those those who haven't tried it. No offence meant to anyone who uses the services or is religious by the way. It takes all sorts.
formidable1 Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 I believe people get out of it what they want to get out of it. I have heard a recording recently of one where the bloke did get a few things correct but they were tenuous links to what had happened. He mentioned unborn baby, um'ed and arhh'ed a bit until the girl said something. My view is that saying that to a 26 year old, the odds will be quite high of an abortion or miscarriage or similar. The recording went on for about 45 minutes but nothing more than the baby and a dead person. Most people will have known someone that has died by the age of 26. Me, nah, all in the mind. To others that want to hear something, they will. Cheers
Vacamion Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 If you believe in that kind of sh1t, you deserve all the exploitation that will inevitably come your way.
Rob1742 Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 A bit like reading your stars in the newspaper. Read your star sign one day, but read all the star signs and you can take something from them all that is correct. A complete load of crap, but they will always get something correct and so people come out and believe them. I always remember a girl I knew years ago came out of one saying that this psychic was amazing as she knew she was into horses and was discussing that. The girl used to virtually live at the stables and always stunk of horse shit so it wouldn't have been hard for said psychic to get that one right. Go in a City shirt and she will tell you that you are into your football.
The People's Hero Posted 31 January 2016 Author Posted 31 January 2016 I do wonder if he booked it in his full name. He is a well known chap so a Google search would reveal a fair amount - and I know he has LinkedIn and Facebook.
Finnegan Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 Anyone who claims to be a psychic and takes money off people should be arrested for fraud. Especially the smug pricks on telly that make millions off it.
Nalis Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 Is anyone else getting the ad 'I want my free reading' on the bottom of the page?
Footballwipe Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 If you believe in that kind of sh1t, you deserve all the exploitation that will inevitably come your way. This, utterly this. Seek professional help if you have problems, don't run to an exploitation master. How these people are allowed to trade without huge billboard around them with "FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY, THIS IS FAKE" is beyond me.
Webbo Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 My elder sister thinks she has some psychic powers and has in the past read tarot cards. I saw her read one blokes cards and she convinced him by telling him things we could all guess just by looking at him. She's not a fraud, she doesn't try and make any money out of it and I think she's kidded herself that it's real. It's a load of bollox to me.
Rincewind Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 There is a method and routine they go through. In shows they would have a plant who helps them. There are keywords they use. ' I see the colour blue worn by someone on this forum' Does that make me a psychic? In an audience of older people it would be the name John or Dorothy (also known as Dot) . I know someone from a writers' group who is into astrology. Not the ones in newspapers but the type that uses the planets and stars. He is an intelligent person who has knowledge of many things. It all depends on which data is used to obtain results. In live shows and readings there may be a pre show drinks get together. The person you chat to may be the plant. May seem a normal person. Tells you it is their first time. During the reading a few hand sygnals will tell the psychic all they need to know about you. Or at least have a good guess. Anyway that is how I view them. There will be a logical explanation as to why they get some things right.

He cannot possibly be intelligent if he believes that the position of astronomical objects on the day he was born would have had any influence on his character. The man is an idiot, right up there with flat-earthers.
Countryfox Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 Went to see a cracking psychic once in London called Derren Brown .... he had me up on the stage and I saw him do some amazing things ... really brilliant !! I would strongly recommend him to you. (Don't turn your back on him though).
Rincewind Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 When I say intelligent I mean knowledge and interest in ancient things. He can quote philosophers and authors. He believes in a God too which IMO is pretty dumb but there are many clever people that believe in a god. He speaks in a way that 'sounds' intelligent. Makes all the right noises if you know what I mean. I rember smiling throughout one of his pieces on astrology and afterwards he said you may mock but these things have explained a lot and studied and used by the great thinkers of Greece and Rome, blah blah blah' I think he is an idiot too to believe the claptrap but he is so far into it that he has lost all sense of logic.
Countryfox Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 ' I see the colour blue worn by someone on this forum' Fantastic Rince ! ... you have a genuine gift ! The man is an idiot, right up there with flat-earthers. Are you trying to tell me its not flat ..... come on !!
Countryfox Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 Sorry lads just keeping myself amused while I wait to see if we sign someone ...
AoWW Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 I was at an event a year or so ago and had a numerology reading, then tarots, done by a very well-respected psychic as so many had raved about her. I'm famously skeptical of such things but try to have an open mind. However, her readings were extremely accurate. Having said that, though, I also believe the vast majority of what she told me could have been down to educated guesswork and being very perceptive about me based on appearance, demeanor, who I was at the event with, the type of event, etc, etc. I was careful to not give too much away but I still think many of the statements could probably apply to the vast majority of people eg "You lost someone or something very precious to you when you were young".
Countryfox Posted 31 January 2016 Posted 31 January 2016 "You lost someone or something very precious to you when you were young". Fook me ! ... another one with a gift !! You and Rince ... amazing !
