It's not just Tesla, it's every EV that isn't worth a lot.

Prices have dropped off a cliff.

If you bought one on a finance deal, brand new, you're screwed.

You're stuck in that car until your PCP finishes and you're handing it back to the finance company, then starting again.

The banks are then going to be screwed too, because they'll have thousands upon thousands of 3/4 year old cars on their hands, worth absolutely fvck all.

Great for a second hand buyer though.

You can get a Mach e for less than £20k that's under 2 years old.

Porsche dealers won’t take Taycans in part exchange. There are 920 of them for sale on Autotrader. They are now selling in auctions for well below £30k for cars that were £120k new. These are less than four years old!

I've got a 2019 Seat Ibiza with about 40k miles I paid about £13k for about 4 years ago with about 3k miles on the clock. We buy any car reckons it's worth £10k so I'm sure I could get about £11k-£12k part exchange. I'm part tempted to downgrade to a car worth about £5-6k which the Seat still has some value.

Is your Seat Ibiza reliable?  If it is then keeping it could potentially save you on repair/maintenance bills.  My youngest has had a Seat Ibiza since 2009 (from new) and it's been very reliable, just gone through its MOT again with no problems.

Yeah very reliable. No issues.

Unless you desperately need the cash, I probably wouldn't bother.

The risk of downgrading to a cheaper/older car is that it could be more likely to go wrong and you might end up buying a lemon.

Seat's are decent motors and if you like driving it, keep it regularly serviced/maintained and it could last you for many many years.

In all honesty, you won't get what WBAC quote you online. They'd end up offering between 8500 and 9k.

And you definately wouldn't get 1 or 2k more than they're offering if part-exing, especially if you're looking for something worth less than yours.

If a garage if planning on retailing it, they'll plan on selling it for at least 2k more than they've paid for it.

This covers the cost of putting it through workshop, smart repairs, putting a warranty on it and making a profit.

So if you think you'd get up to 12k for it, that means it'll be priced up at a garage for more than you paid for it 4 years ago.

If it's treated you well, keep it and make sure its serviced, as others have said. You could easily make it to 150k miles plus. That would be real value for money

Update: it is really nice, one of the best looking EV's out there. But, i expected better interior, i think the RS Etron GT has the alcantara trim and a bit better inside. For a £113,000 car it has similar interior to a standard A4.. but still superior to the Tesla. The parking Camera isn't as clear as the Tesla, the rear window is tiny and also doesn't have the side view camera appear when you put your indicator on. Boot space is tiny. The turning circle a lot better than Tesla

obviously very quick and torque seems to pick up where as Tesla is instant. Very heavy 2.3 tonnes but seems to grip around corners, mine is blue but they dark grey/black is a lot nicer.

it is a nice change, if I had the option to buy one for £113,000 - i would buy one second hand at a good price, or go for an IX

@tom27111 - are you worried about Nissan?

In short, no.

Yeah, there's financial trouble and they aren't selling many cars in certain markets.

Seems like America want plug in hybrids for some reason. Probably the worst place for them in my opinion, but what do I know, and if those yanks get something in their head...

The technologies they have and the status in Japan, make me think the Japanese government won't allow them to fold. Plus other factories are worth so much money to so many economies around the world, including ours. The Qashqai and Juke are designed in Cranfield and built in Sunderland.

They certainly need investment and it'll come from somewhere. Honda were seriously interested, but it wasn't quite the right fit.

Loads of rumours floating about, none of which are relayed to us, as we're just a franchised retailer.

I'd be utterly amazed if they went under. It definitely isn't impacting sales for us.

Instead of watching the match, decided to give my SUV it's first deep clean since this Canadian tundra winter started.  Winter is almost done, not a lot of snow in the forecast so cleaned under the car with a water broom to get salt off. Then soap foamed the car twice, bucket washed, then applied some silica sealant to get me through early spring before I can do a proper clay bar clean process. My 12 year old son helped (who is obsessed with cars) clean the interior seats, dash etc.

Although it took houuuuuurs long there is something great when you are done and feel good even though the back and arms are tired. Looking forward to getting my snow tires off in a few week and back to my blacked out rims.

I'm sure as the snow continues to melt from the 5 foot mounds we had that it will be dirty in no time but it's great. If only I could retire and just do this shit every week for fun.. I'd be pulling out them special tooth brushes to get in all cracks and crevices lol.

Side note getting rid of my 2010 civic hopefully this year.  Thinking another SUV but smaller size like a compact or perhaps sub compact. Wondering if I should go hybrid (not plugin). Thoughts, suggestions? I know not all cars are available here in Canada vs there buy options are welcomed!

My car broke down!

Before anyone says, well what do you expect from an EV, the irony of it was it was failure of the 12v battery, likely due to excessive drain from an as yet unidentified source, the exact problem the 14 year old Mazda I traded it in for had.

Great news for traditionalists worried about the pace of technological change, the old problems are still there to be enjoyed

Dashcam.

Had to disconnect ours from the Merc, kept getting battery notifications on my phone, then the car went haywire and required a battery reset. A good indication is the start stop deactivating as the car tries to reduce it's battery use.

Can be a common issue with EVs apparently. Most of the time a software update fixes it. As @simFox suggests, if you have a dashcam or something similar plugged in then that'll cause it as well.

Yeah, according to a guy I know who's some sort of motor industry consultant (I'm not sure what he actually does) 12v battery issues account for the majority of EV breakdown call outs.

It did it again last night, so assuming it will start this morning I'll be driving it to the dealership where I'll throw the key at them and make it their problem.

I'll be given a hire car supposedly, having never had a brand new car before the extra support is a bit of a novelty for me

So my wife’s car has finally reached the end of the road with 150k miles. Looking for an SUV, good boot, economical, reliable, budget about £20k. Quite like the Tuscon from my initial deep research of looking at cars while driving around!

Anyone got an experience/recommendations?

Enter @tom27111

Sportage? But id stay away from the last gen mild hybrid diesel as I had one and they can have major issues. Kia Niro is another option (hybrid if you don't want full electric).

Qashqai is a shout. MG do seem to have tempting deals, but their reliability is meh. I suppose you get what you pay for.

Dropped knackered car off at dealership, double parked because at 9am there was literally no spaces on the site. Dropped off keys and was quite surprised they didn't ask me what was actually wrong with it
