Bert Posted 16 March 2016 Posted 16 March 2016 Drinky deserves it but I don't want him to be ruined by England.
Tuna Posted 16 March 2016 Posted 16 March 2016 Expected to be called up according to the mail, whilst Vardy is to model the new kit! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3496026/Roy-Hodgson-expected-hand-Danny-Drinkwater-senior-international-call-England-boss-picks-FIVE-strikers.html
act smiley Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 That's nice. I'd be fine if he missed out because of players like Dier, Alli and Noble who are playing at the same level, but kinda annoyed if it was the usual suspects that got in the way.
EnglishOxide Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 --------------Hart----------- --Clyne--Smalling--Cahill--Baines-- --------------Dier------------- -------Drinkwater--Alli-------- ------------Barkley------------- ---------Vardy----Kane---------- Butland Simpson Albrighton Noble Welbeck Jagielka Sterling Looks strong to me. I can't see Shaw or Wilshere being fit in time. You just know Rooney, Henderson, Milner, Delph, Sturridge and Lallana are going to weasel their way into the starting 11 somehow though.
les-tah Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 Ryan Mason will have to have 2 broken legs before Drinkwater gets a call up unfortunately
Vlad the Fox Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 A call up would be good for him, any indication that there's a chance of making the euros could invigorate him and spur him on for the remainder of the season. He needs some game time though to take him and barely play him is a pointless exercise and a wast of his time at this stage of the season just before the championships.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 He'll be loyal to the players who helped us qualify so easily, forgetting what a poor group it was, and then those same players will yet again fail when it comes to the finals. It will be the same old same old players. We could be Premier Champions and have no players in Woys finals squad.
J.Lisemore Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 Ryan Mason will have to have 2 broken legs before Drinkwater gets a call up unfortunately Has Mason been injured or has he just been unnoticeable? I know he scored against Fiorentina a few weeks back but apart from that and being bossed by Dortmund's midfield, I haven't heard much of him. To think Mark Noble and Drinkwater haven't got an England cap between them and this guy has

I had a look to see if there was a precedent for the league champions not having a player in an England squad at a major tournament and it seems that in 1986 England went to the a World Cup without a single member of the Liverpool title winning side.

Dames Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 I believe Mason has only started 6 premiership games all season. Yet him and Tom Carroll will be further ahead in Roys thinking than Drinky or Noble.

That Liverpool side had very few English players, though, didn't it? Rush (Wales) & Dalglish (Scot) up front, Lawrenson (Ire) & Hansen (Sco) at centre back, Grobelaar (Zimb) in goal, Whelan (Ire), Johnston (Aus) & Molby (Den) in midfield....and about half a dozen Scots in the squad (back in the days when Scotland had some decent players)? I'm sure that Vardy will make the squad, even if he's only on the bench, maybe Drinky now, too.

Stats are only part of the story, assists vs chances created etc. These rankings have Drinkwater higher than Noble and only Barkley and Alli ahead of him for English Midfielders: http://www.premierleague.com/content/premierleague/en-gb/players/ea-sports-player-performance-index.html The issue isn't that Drinkwater is more or less deserving than Noble, the issue is that both of these players will be ultimately overlooked for underperforming players for big clubs.
st albans fox Posted 17 March 2016 Posted 17 March 2016 Drinky is in woys plans. Shearers comments on MOTD about their off air chat revealed that. He could leave him out to allow him to come in post the euro debacle and not be tainted by being there. however, it's clear that there must have been enough leaks that he will be selected in an hour or so.
