Buce Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 A musical great yesterday and a sporting icon today, chucked in with a couple of bombs to start the week. It's not been a good week to be a human has it Who was the musical great?
bovril Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Along side Best as the greatest European footballer of all time, I'd say. Took football to an art form. Smoked like a chimney, so unsurprising.
Jimothy Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 The Cruyff Turn. How many footballers have a skill or technique named after them? Not many. The Akinbiyi miss, the Yaya Toure stroll, the Junior Lewis ball loss. There's plenty. But seriously RIP, great player and manager.
bovril Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 The Gareth Williams point. The Danny Tiatto lunge. The Matty Fryatt scuff.
Buce Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 The Gareth Williams point. The Danny Tiatto lunge. The Matty Fryatt scuff. The Adam Johnson Finger..
bovril Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 I remember Gerry Taggart perfecting a Cruyff esque turn that he tried at least once a game in his own area.
Thracian Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Master craftsman - presented the game as an art form and made brilliance look effortless. Right up there among the "gods" of the game and flew a flag for exactly the kind of football I've enjoyed most over the years. Can still only think of him as fit and well. The years pass so quickly. RIP.
Darkon84 Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Who was the musical great? Phife Dawg from A Tribe Called Quest. Hip hop might not be to everyone's taste, but given how brilliant they were and the influence they had over future generations, it's fair to say he was a musical great at least in the genre. EDIT: I hope that's who he meant, otherwise I'll look pretty silly

Darkon84 Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Oh. Ok, thanks - I guess we have a different interpretation of what constitutes a musical 'great'. Haha, I'm open to almost all music really, hip hop being part of that. He might not have been a great to the wider world, but within hip hop, many would certainly see him as one. Anyhow, I'll stop derailing the thread.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Very sad. After Pele, he was probably the best player in the world. R.I.P.
