David Guiza Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Sad news. Comfortably one of the greatest players ever and a leading figure of modern football.
Fox92 Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Think I'll stick my 14 Netherlands shirt on when I get home
MC Prussian Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 The Age of Pisces dominated by the Year of Cancer. Madness. R.I.P., maestro!
David Guiza Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Incidentally how Cruyff has passed away but Maradona lives on I'll never know. Although Cruyff was quite a smoker, wasn't he? Hopefully they'll be a fitting tribute at the England v Netherlands game

Fox92 Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Lets not forget what he did as a manager, too. He inspired the youth system at Barca - responsible for all these great modern day players.
foxoffderby Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 The Cruyff Turn. How many footballers have a skill or technique named after them? Not many.
Voll Blau Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Could've been ex-Leicester too. Arguably better than Pele and Maradona given he could defend too?
Darkon84 Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Cruyff was a smoker, yeah. I think I saw where he gave up. Yes Rince, you're right there. He gave up back in '91 after a heart bypass.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 The Cruyff Turn is one of the first bits of skill any kid learns on a muddy Sunday / Saturday morning - what a bloke
KFS Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 I've just watched that gif on repeat for about 5 minutes. RIP
Fox92 Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 Could've been ex-Leicester too. Arguably better than Pele and Maradona given he could defend too? I've always said he's the greatest ever.. but I've always liked him so probably biased. But Cruyff, Pele, Maradonna, Beckenbauer, Platini, Van Basten (...all the usual names) are all up there because of what they could do on every level. I speak about this all the time nowadays because people are quick to assign "one of the greatest players ever" for some reason but players like I have mentioned did it for club domestically, in Europe and on the International stage (at World Cups) too. ... And it's hard to measure when we have a group of players that are that good.
Buce Posted 24 March 2016 Posted 24 March 2016 The word 'Great' is used far too easily, but it is an epithet he truly deserves. RIP.
