Prescott thinks he'd need 51 MPs to nominate him in the event of a new leadership election.

In which case, he's toast.

The more I read about this the more I think it needs to be tested in the courts.

I'm listening to Angela Eagle and I think she's less electable than Corbyn.

WTF?

I'm baffled as to why they have gone with Eagle, a person who has a Boris Johnson hairdo and the charisma of a carpet rug. The Mark Waugh/Phil Neville of politics.

Tom Watson or Owen Smith had to get the gig, they can't even get the person right they need to dislodge him.

Whatever happens though something has to to give at some point in this, it can't just carry on as it is. He either has to resign or they need to start deselecting MP's as he can't even form an opposition now.

Tomorrow the Tories are tabling two motions in the house and Labour can't even oppose them as they don't have a shadow business team to do so.

Agreed.

This is reaching the point where they actually should be removed as HM opposition.  Pathetic.

I think they're doing that themselves.

Don't let Owen Smith anywhere near the leadership. A narcissistic idiot.

Christ, it's getting depressing and not a little disheartening.

If the alternatives were better, I'd feel a lot happier. Eagle and Smith will move Labour no nearer power in my view.

If labour-party are having a civil war,

pray tell me then , with the chaos in the conservative-party,

why it isnt considered that they arent in the middle of a so called civil war..????

Deceit, resignations, lack of trust...!!.

JC is the last true hope of people's politics.

The media are trying to spin their tory party evil.

The torie-lite blairites have failed in their coup.

JC has to stay. JC will stay.

Don't believe what you read in the media! Especially sky!

Just a few points:

How is JC the hope of 'Peoples politics'?

What is 'peoples politics'?

How are the media spinning 'Tory party evil'?

What is this said evil?

Who exactly, are the Tory-lite Blairites, or, like many others, are you just using a terminology because you heard someone say it and it sounds cool? I thought they'd all resigned or been booted from the party anyway?

Fair play on your last point, it's always wise to read a wide spectrum of information from all outlets and agencies to make your own mind up.

Not having a go at you, it's just that these sort of things get said a lot but people can very rarely actually explain themselves. They just always seem to be soundbites picked up from a Momentum rally or something similar.

Stop bullying him by asking perfectly reasonable questions.

Jeremy Corbyn is a hero, he speaks for the people, even when 17.5million of those people give a "V" sign to his opinions it's not that he's out of touch, but the Tory/Blairite/Trump/Republican/Nazi/Fascist/UKIP/Farage/Murdoch/Sky/Breitbart/Daily Mail/Desmond/BNP/Britain First/EU  mainstream media conning the people into thinking something different to to what they actually think.

He's on course to win in 2020, every student, trade unionist and teacher I know is voting for him.

I've asked the same questions to several people, either on Facebook, here or in the pub etc and I'm STILL yet to get any actual answers other than 'you just don't understand what JC is about' or 'you clearly don't know what you're talking about'. I'm by no means as clued up as some on here such as yourself, Alf, Buce, Strokes etc but I can damn well hold my own, particularly against people who just regurgitate nonsense soundbites in the pub with no thought processes involved lol

I do like, however, that someone has liked David's post. I'm not going to look, I refuse to look, but I'd put my bank balance on it being Rince.

Or I could just be a brainwashed Daily Mail reader who watches Sky News all day, filling Murdoch's evil pockets with my Nazi, racist gold.

NB. For the record, I'm none of the above lol.

When I saw the rep point I thought "I know who that is" as well lol

You are spot on about the questions, answers and cliches, it's not just the activists though, it's even the journalists that are engaging in this, on This Week on Thursday numerous times Neil and Portillo kept asking Rachel Shabi questions about how Corbyn can form a government, how he can win swing seats, who or what a "Blairite is" and it was exactly the same stuff, cliches about "New politics, wide movement, young people, anti-austerity" without any actual answer given and this is a person paid by the Guardian among others to write about politics.

I still cannot believe the level of stupidity among these people, how can they not realise how serious this is? They are probably one leadership election away from confirming Tony Blair as the last ever Labour Prime Minister, destroying the left as a credible force in the country and they are so ideologically driven they actually seem prepared to do it.

Sorry Buce, but thanks for the reassurance. As an apology, I'll add you to the (short) list of knowledgeable posters on politics. And sorry to others missed off, it was just a quick passing point.

It was obvious though wasn't it, it ticked all the boxes - Tory, evil, JC, media, Tory-lite and Blairite lol

Unfortunately I've not had a chance to catch as much politics on TV as I'd liked to have done, but have been catching up with articles when I can. I can't understand how these things are allowed to keep being thrown around or people continually getting away with saying them. They're just hollow words, as well pointed out by Portillo (he's actually great to listen to) and Neil by the sounds of it. Of course, they're more than likely part of a smear campaign and that's why they're asking the questions lol  Yes it's all very vague isn't it, just words and things with no backing or substance, but somehow it's lured a large number of people in.

I don't want to keep banging on about it though as I'm probably in danger of sounding as petty and bitchy as some of the people and things I've been moaning about now, which completely devalues my questions and the seriousness of the political situation we are all in right now.

Alf has just posted a leaked video from Sky with two Tory MP's criticising virtually all the potential leaders in the other thread.

Can you imagine the tirade against Murdoch from the Corbynistas had they done that with a couple of Labour MP's slagging off Jeremy? lol

I don't suppose the "left-dominated" BBC got Labour Party approval before showing footage of Corbyn muttering "I don't think this is a good idea, Seumas!" on camera the other day.  lol

If politicians allow their private thoughts to become known, journalists are only doing their job if they reveal them, I reckon - provided they've not done anything illegal like tapping phones, stealing private documents or whatever.

I don't even see anything wrong with people like the Fake Sheikh setting MPs up to incriminate themselves looking for cash for questions or whatever.

Agree with all of this (although wasn't the Corbyn thing Sky as well? It was certainly reported and shown on there)

I think that will be the legacy of the Corbyn leadership - "I don't think this is a good idea, Seumas" - I can still see Tom Watson's face now, I could feel pain in my own stomach watching it. (the bit around 0.32 ouch)

I don't know who filmed it, but it was certainly shown on BBC News.

I feel sorry for Corbyn in some ways, for he was not supposed to win (did he even expect to get close when he stood?), but got elected nethertheless (party due to the durth of the other candidates) but hasn't been allowed to then implement even half of what he got elected on.

He's almost being held hostage, between the people who want to hold him to his stated agenda and the PLP who want to pull him miles away from it - and he hasn't even been able to placate things by taking a middle ground in some areas.

And that is therein where the problem in the Labour Party lies - rather than let new leaders lead in a way that is natural to them, there's a pressure to try and mould them into something they're not. Mean look at Ed Milliband now - he doesn't look like half the twat he looked like at times when trying to lead the party and you can see the same is happening with Corbyn, because when he does things on his own (like the Sky News EU debate with young people) he speaks really well, their's a genuine quality about him - even if you don't agree with his stance, it's difficult to completely deride him... it's only when the other clowns are around him that things look like a circus.

This is half the problem though, he only ever seems comfortable, competent and when he's surrounded by groups of people he likes and agrees with.

Can you actually imagine him as Prime Minister? He's have turned into a real life version of Major Major Major Major from Catch 22.

Sat in his shed somewhere only wanting to speak to Students or Trade Unions while the country has urgent business, "Mr Corbyn it's President Putin on the phone he wants to talk about Syria" - "Seamus tell him to go away he's bullying me, Seumas he's threatening to do things to me, tell him we have a huge anti war protest and ask him nicely not to do anything" - "No problem Jeremy, President Trump arrives on Tuesday and he's already complaining about the Vegan Casserole that's on the menu" - "Well tell him to eat first then I don't want to meet him anyway he's racist and America is very nasty to my friends, can you organise me a meeting with some youth groups and International socialists so I don't have to do it"

I did feel for him as well in a way but it's hard for to keep doing now he's hanging on here when all hope is lost and the parties future is at stake, I have the same amount of sympathy for him as I would if Hodgson was hanging on because we couldn't afford to get rid of him.
