TiffToff88 Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 I was just wondering what people's preferences are for match days. I personally have a problem with my legs so i cant stand up for a whole match, which has caused me some problems at away games in the past. I'm well aware that most of you will say you prefer to stand up, but i was just wondering what are your reasons for this? same question to people who prefer to sit down. Interestingly enough for me though, with my leg condition, i cant sit comfortably for a whole match, or stand comfortably for a whole match, which can make things even more awkward for me. At home games i'm in a location where i'm able to move around a bit more freely, to stand up to stretch my legs when i need to, and sit down when i have to. But its away games that cause me trouble, obviously the majority of the time at away games, if you don't stand, you don't see the game. It's probably the fact that i don't have the option to choose if i sit or stand at away games that i don't like
AKCJ Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 Depends. Away I prefer to stand and enjoy the atmosphere, at home I prefer to sit and enjoy the football.
davieG Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 You can react / express yourself more physically to what is happening on the pitch It's obviously better for singing, how many choirs do you see performing sitting down. Just like you with standing some people just don't like sitting for 45 minutes at a time.
Voll Blau Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 I always stand, better for singing and feel more like I'm part of the game. Also find it way more comfortable given I've had occasional back problems. Went to Switzerland v Romania a couple of weeks ago and we even ended up swapping seats to we could stand up all game. Think I'd just feel weird sitting at football during this time of my life.
kingcarr21 Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 I always sit at home games. I wouldn't want to annoy the people around me. Tbh I don't really get the hype of standing or sitting. Who cares. At away games I stand mainly because everyone else is standing. Im quite happy to stand just as much as sitting. Doesn't bother me either way.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 Stood up for the first time at Swindon away in League 1 and I'd never go back, not until I physically couldn't anyway. I feel more engaged with the game, lets me sing and clap more easily and I just generally have a better time. As long as you pick the right areas at home games I don't see the issue at all. I see more problems with people going into known 'standing' areas, then trying to sit down and moaning that they can't see, rather than the other way around.
goose2010 Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 Really not bothered either way, if people around me stand I will stand but I wouldn't stand if I thought I was annoying people by standing. I honestly don't think it effect the atmosphere as much as some people think it does as only about 15% were standing last season and the atmosphere was the best I have ever seen at the KP and it wasn't just coming from that 15%

If people can't see then it should be common courtesy for those standing in front to offer to swap. I seem to be on "the line" on every away game where I want to stand but people behind want to sit, I ask if they want to swap thus creating no arguments. People want to see the game. If you're preventing people behind from seeing it then people absolutely have the right to moan.

I was talking about home games, namely people buying tickets on the back row of the Kop or over in J3/K1, then moaning at people who have been stood there for years. Away games are different and yes I would absolutely move if I was stood in front of someone that wanted to sit. Bournemouth away this season there was an similar episode, a woman was on the back row screaming and shouting at the blokes in front of her to sit down, I think people just buggered off and left her sat there on the back row on her own.
RowlattsFox Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 Standing is a much better way to watch a game of football, IMO of course. Even if there is no atmosphere that comes with it. Personally don't feel involved when sitting. It's also uncomfortable.
cambridgefox Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 Aways stand.Homes tend to sit as most around me do. Prefer to stand.Being 6ft 4" it's not the most comfortable of places to be in modern stadiums.Went to Old Trafford away and thought I would sit down at HT,I physically couldn't .
Finnegan Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 My main priority is watching the football, weird I know, so I'm not that fussed. Happy to stand and sing. Happy to sit and sing. Happy to watch without singing. Whatever really. I go with my old man who's not really capable of standing anymore and his eyes are going so we often end up sitting down the front at away games. I will admit that feels somewhat strange, sitting at an away game surrounded by old women complaining about people standing up is ****ing surreal. I'd rather be at the back shouting my lungs off than that but, eh, I'm not that fussed.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 I sit at home games but would stand if I could. Away games I've always stood I think. It's more atmospheric standing at games, involvement in singing and chanting is very good. I sit at home games but me and my mates always celebrate a goal what you'd call 'proper.' Away day celebrations are always top notch. I've had a minor incident where folk wanted to sit in the lower parts of the away end, whereas I wanted to stand, therefore creating tension and cusps of arguments. I realised we should of booked the tickets higher up but instead I just moved to a gap of empty seats to the left and just stood all game from there on. Stewards were good about it to be fair, weren't told to sit.
ScouseFox Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 quite enjoy either way tbf. when I go away it's as much about having a good time as watching a game of footy. when we're at home I'll be with my sister or my dad and it's more about the footy than who can give the most abuse to an oppo fan or who knows the words to the newest chant. so stand at aways and sit at home. I'd probably stand at home too but we're half way down the kop and its sat all around. and we've been there years so aren't moving.

Similar to me ScouseFox in the fact that I'm in lower SK1 and would love to stand but likewise everyone is sat down nearby. There's been times just at kick off point where I've thought no one's sitting down, we're standing. After a few long seconds though it's all sitting. I haven't really got a problem with it though, because I'm lucky enough to have a season ticket and witness some glorious moments, particularly in recent seasons.
Soar Fox Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 Away stand up, home everyone around me sits. Over the last couple of seasons I've noticed far more people sitting. I don't know whether that's because in the championship most grounds were unreserved so we just went straight to the singing and standing areas.
RonnieTodger Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 I'm at the back of the Kop so everyone stands up there but I bought that season ticket without knowing it, it's just a bonus I guess. I could easily enjoy a home game sitting though. I'd hate to sit at an away game, but as people say it's just common sense to swap with anyone you might have been blocking.

I hardly see any in our away ends sat down these days. Seems to be a small pocket most times but it used to be probably about 80% sat down in the Championship most of the time.
RowlattsFox Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 Either I'm lucky where my tickets are but I've not sat down at an away game for a good few years and I've not had to move to stand either, granted I don't go to anywhere near them all. my worse experience sitting down at away game was Blackpool when it was 0-0 and I think Wood missed a penalty. Dreadful game, squashed into a seat and a horrible couple of hours.

Arsenal, Stoke, Man United and Bournemouth all places I had to move as people around me all sat. I hardly ever had to move when we were in the championship but like I said that was probably due to the fact we had unreserved seating at most grounds.
potter3 Posted 5 July 2016 Posted 5 July 2016 Feel more involved standing, also a lot of grounds also really lack legroom for taller people to sit down.
