Remove backup and add CM and I'd agree. All signings should be an improvement or at least potential improvement on what we have in those positions. Cultivates continuous improvement rather than stagnation.

This.

I personally think he will play a big role for this club going forward. That being said, we need more signings. I don't think our back four will perform anywhere near to what they did 2nd half of the season, so we need a center back that is YOUNGER and athletic. Somebody like Baily would have been perfect.  I also don't think we can play the 4-4-2 effectively anymore without Kante, he was the transition. We are in desperated need in my opinion of a Modric type of player; a player that can unlock the back four, control tempo for the midfield and ping balls out to our wings.

What slow it down, and completely change the style of play that made us English Champoins two months ago?

I was more trying to say the signings we need to make sure we're competitive - but yes, I agree with what you're saying in principle.

As for the CM - I think we have just about enough. Mendy, Drinkwater, Amartey, Inler, James, King - that's six players for probably only two spots in the side.

Inler looks set to leave and James doesn't look anywhere near fit enough yet. Which leaves us with 4 CM's currently. Also I've not seen Amartey play in this position yet - I think he's been used as a right back thus far. We hear he can play there but apparently he can also play CB - which takes us down to 3 proven CM's. So 3 in this position with maybe 55-60 games to play for me is not enough. Especially with the loss of Kante.

Rudkin was caught on camera laughing and joking at the Oxford match with the owners, he better pull his finger out or I will start blaming him for any potential downfall.

Laughing & joking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a cnut, let's hang him and torch his house.

I think we need a CM and maybe a striker (although Musa showing desire to run in behind put me at ease), we can wait off on a new young CB until January and do a similar thing to what we have done with Gray and Amartey in easing them in. Think we have serious quality in wingers this year; I honestly believe Mahrez, Albrighton, Gray, Schlupp would walk in to most premier league teams with the danger they cause opposition defences, even if Jeff is wild. Depth in defence looks thin with only Hernandez Wasyl and Chilwell but our starting 4 were consistently excellent last year as well as being very fit, something I trust is down to our sports science team so think we'll be fine for this year

when the main piece to the puzzle leaves your team that enabled you to play 4-4-2 sometimes you have to be able to adapt. I'm sure we will start with a 4-4-2 but i am not sure how long it will last.

Just want some brand names coming up to their prime if not already in their prime. Just doesn't seem like we have been ambitious with our signings in my opinion.

Vardy and his pace were the mainstay  of our playing STYLE. That's not to be confused with or to say that Kante was not brilliant.

I don't see how in not having Kante we should change our style.

I completely disagree, Kante was the glue, the transition. Vardy just stretched the back 4, Kante was without a doubt the most important player in that system. Its not even close. If you can find some footage of your season highlights not just the goals but the key opportunities. Without Kante we are a below average counter attacking team not to mention much more frail at the back. People don't get that he is the best box to box in the world

To be happy with no new signings, to me it would mean Inler is staying, James is fit, Amartey is up to speed, Chilwell's future is certain and we know who's going to back up Simpson. That would be one hell of an accumulator bet.

100% we need two more. Last season went well for injurys this season we might not be so lucky I'd be happy with Brady and Keane as the two. Having James back is like getting a new player.

No, I agree completely. Think we should be looking at a much higher calibre of player for the prices being quoted.

I want to see a top tier player come here, a player that is on the cusp of world class, **** keane and brady. If we buy players they should be an upgrade at this point. We have players like brady and keane already.

Don't flatter yourself into thinking you are the only one that recognised Kante's talent!

I get he's the best ball winner I've ever seen. I don't doubt he will be a big loss, and that we in all likelihood we will not be as good a team without him. The point I'm making is we should not alter our playing style from the very effective counter attacking one we have used,  on the basis that Kante is no longer with us.

I would suggest that would be akin to throwing the proverbial baby out with the bath water.

My main point was that Kante's role within playing an effective 4-4-2 was so integral towards the success of it that we could not replicate its success without him unless we sign somebody similar. Yes he provides cover, but its his ability to beat a couple people once he intercepts the ball and play a good through pass or switch play correctly. We have nobody on the team that can consistently drive us forward like he did.

Exactly.. Very similar to my point re systems.

And our options are to sign a Sissoko, Lemina type to try and do that or given we know the 442 system well we could become more Atletico Madrid like and become even more solid with two banks of 4.

Theres no question that Kante is almost irreplaceable so I can see arguments from all sides in terms of how best to move forward. I think IMO right now I would say 442 with drinkwater and Mendy as disciplined central midfielders with musa Vardy up front to stretch teams.

Having a replica Vardy in Musa at least means teams will still sit deep against us and perhaps give our creative players more time on the ball
