Just off to a Gin festival in Liverpool where they have something like 100 different types to try, same one comes to Leicester in November I think.

What are people's favourite types?

ps, Just to get this out of the way...

The only alcoholic drink I don't like. Gin is the base of the biggest percentage of cocktails and I imagine this is to mask the flavour.

For the record, you're going all the way to Liverpool, I think the Black Horse in Aylestone have had a Gin festival all this week - much closer!

Liverpool or Aylestone? Choices choices lol. More of a night out than anything.

i used to hate the stuff but that was when I had only tried Gordon or Beefeater, some incredible ones around nowadays.

Only had Gordon's, quite nice with slim line tonic. Don't really like to be seen drinking it though, seems a bit camp.

Maybe I should give some variants a try. I know many people who say they don't like whisky who have only ever tried Bells. I love whisky, but hate Bells, it tastes like cats' pee.

Yeah I'm one of them people.

Try Tanquerie No 1 (poor spelling apologies), Sipsmiths or Bathtub gin. All about decent Fevertree tonic as well.

Webbo would much prefer a nice camomille tea.

not got to the point of my life yet where I can drink gin and enjoy it.

had a cocktail once and it had gin in it and it was rancid.

If going for a drink with the missus at a nice country pub I'll more often than not have a gin & tonic.

At home there's ususally a bottle of gin on the go.  Got some Blackfriars Gin from Sainsbury's at the moment.  For a supermarket own brand it's fine at about £14.

Gin of choice would be Hendricks or Tanqueray 10, but you're looking at around £30 a bottle.

Like surfing the gins for the different tastes.

Tanqueray Rangpur is a favourite for its citrus tang.

Might try Pink Pepper next.

Flavoured tonics for your G are pretty popular too now. A good option for use with a cheaper gin.

Gin is just one of the few drinks I don't like for some reason. Tried it many times but never really enjoyed it.

There's a great whisky and gin bar in Cheltenham which is fun day out but bring your wallet. And anybody else's wallet too come to think of it.

Here are a few of my favourite tipples which I have in my gin trough:

Elephant Gin (African worm)

Cotswolds Gin

Crossbill Gin (This one won the shed competition some bloke from Aviemore it's made with rose hip)

The Botanist

Daffy's - Lebanese mint gin

Warner Edwards - this is Northampton gin and they are doing very well - so good you barely need tonic! Essence of ginger in the standard bottle but the rhubarb gin is from Queen Victoria's garden though it all was deported to an estate in Ireland it's quality. They also do an Elderflower which is nice if you like Elderflower.....

Rock Rose Gin is a Scottish solid concoction

Ophir (Indian Gin) bit of a novelty - nice for a change though it's got basically Moroccan spices in it like coriander so it has essence of curry ingredients! You can get it from Waitrose....

Cold Rover Gin - hard to get hold of but blooming brilliant. Remember Murray Mints? This is what it tastes of - weird genius from Canada I think.

Principe DeLos Apostles is an Argentian effort which is becoming more popular in specialist bars

Monkey 47 is a benchmark quality gin

Burroghs Reserve is a beefeater gin but a little better than what you might expect.

These days it's all about the tonic - explore the different ones available Fevertree is a good place to start - different tonics for different gins.

basil, cinnamon, raspberries, cucumber and coarse ground black pepper should be considered as standard as lemon lime and ice with some of the above! (Not all together)

Hendricks with cucumber and black pepper is a must.....

I have to go now and not write about gin all day......

Yeah, stop writing about it and go get blind on gin and sob your heart out.

iv tried that Monkey one and seen the Ophir in tesco but not yet bought it. Went round a friend of a friends a few weeks ago who literally had 40 plus different varieties, no idea what I tried other than some award winning one made of sea weed lol.

I never realised just how big gin was up here in Scotland. I thought it was just whisky, whisky and more whisky... which I can't stand, by the way!

Anyone fancying a Gin tour of Scotland, take a look at this map.
