lgfualol Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Voted very well but more like quite well. Would have been happier if we used our pull to bring in a couple more players, a CM being one of them. Really excited about Musa, Mendy, Kapustka and Slimani. I think those 4 are brilliant signings. Mendy will be really good for us after a full game or two in the Prem, you don't captain a team to fourth in Ligue 1 without having something. Hernandez and Zieler are great backup signings for £2.5m.
Ozwin Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 I'm glad we haven't made wholesale changes because I just adore the league winning players too much. Think we've added well and minus Kante leaving we are as good as can be. Gives a chance for someone to step up too as they know the standard needed now.
holyfox Posted 1 September 2016 Posted 1 September 2016 Think we've bought some really good players with potential to improve. Looking at how much players like Simpson and Gray have improved, I'm excited about seeing Amartey , Mussa, kapustka and Slimani improve over the next 6-18 mths. I think Sliming may well hit the ground running because he just seems full of aggression and confidence, but I hope the others get time from the fans whole they settle in. I remember Mahrez showing flashes of brilliance but being too lightweight and terrible in covering back when he first came here and look how that turned out. Even Hernandez looked class against Barcelona, so it will be interesting to see how he is once he's trained with the squad for a few months as I think he's such an intelligent player but prefer Huth with Morgan at the moment. Kante is old news now and we have to move on but as we didn't go all out for Adrien, I guess Claudio sees enough on the training ground to reassure him that we will be ok. All in all 7/8 out of 10 from me especially with Slimani coming in to give us something different alongside Vardy.
WigstonWanderer Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Voted quite well. Attack potentially much stronger/more options. Central midfield probably weaker but will depend how well Amartey and Mendy step up. Defence OK, but Huth, Morgan & Fuchs a year older, so have to see if they can retain last year's form. A bit thin at RB.
UPinCarolina Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Who voted quite badly? The same people who voted for Claudio to leave when we lost to Arsenal for the second time last season?
Royston. Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 i'm satisfied happy with what we've done apart from losing kante but he obviously didnt want to be here so what could we do? if everyone can get close to how they played last season things could be exciting. burying my head in the sand about the massive loss of kante, we have strengthened in depth if anything and there will be a lot of expectation on slimani to justify his price tag but im really looking forward to watching it all unfold. should have enough in the locker at least until january question. if we had all summer why wait til deadline day to get slimani? (not a criticism just want to know)

Would have liked another CM in, but that can be addressed in the next 'window'... What is quite sobering is that, since Claudio took up the reins, we have signed: Kante: reported £5.6m Inler: reported £3.0m Benelouane: reported £3.6m Gray: reported £3.7m Amartey: reported £5.0m Iversen reported £700k Zieler: reported £2.0m Mendy: reported £13.6m Musa: reported £16.2m Kapustka: reported £7.5m Slimani: reported £26.5m Now, (allowing for any inaccuracies caused by some deals being 'undisclosed), Claudio's 'spend' so far is: £87.4m. Just to put that into context, I reckon that's just about equal to our total spend on incoming transfers for the period 1884-2015 ! If God forbid Claudio was to leave then assuming we stayed in the prem whoever took over would out spend Claudio it's just the way of the football world now. Money has gone crazy

(not a criticism just want to know) There are a few reasons why it could have gone to the deadline. - Sporting maybe would only sell after they bought a replacement. - He might not have been our first choice and we were waiting on other options. - Sporting holding on until late on to get the most money when clubs are more desperate. Especially if they didn't really want to sell him anyway. I'm very pleased with the signings. Cover for Kante with Mendy to go with Amartey who is ready to take his chance now. Better cover for Kasper. An experienced defender to provide flexible cover in defence and a great improvement in our attacking options that is as good as anyone could have wanted. No reason why we can't challenge for the European places.
adam95581 Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 I voted 'quite well' but on reflection I think 'average' might be more apt. Still think we're a midfielder short given that Amartey and Mendy are unproven, James is on his way back from injury and, whilst King is a solid squad player, he is unlikely to make an impact in most games. Also feel that given how long we were interested in Slimani for it's pretty poor that it went down to the final few hours of the window. Regarding the other signings I think the jury is largely still out on Musa, Hernandez and Kaputska. How these perform will probably be the deciding factor between whether this was an average or good window for us.
Alf Bentley Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 19 hours ago, MattP said: Fairly well, still think we could have done with a top quality centre midfielder. Yep, I've gone "Quite well". If I'd been offered this outcome at the start of the summer as a "stick or twist", I'd have said "stick". Admittedly, if I'd been asked for the player we could least afford to lose, I'd have said Kante. But keeping Vardy & Mahrez, and even Drinky & Schmeichel is good work, when you think of how teams like Southampton have lost top players. Personally, given the choice of Slimani and Adrien Silva (or another good central midfielder), I'd have gone for the latter. Kante might be irreplaceable, but maybe we could have got a better central midfielder in, as I'm yet to be convinced that we have the right central midfielders to play 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 against the top teams. Though Mendy looked decent (if more limited than Kante) v. Arsenal & Amartey was impressive against a poor Swansea side... I didn't think we were short of firepower even before we got Slimani: Vardy, Mahrez & Musa should all score a few, plus the likes of Shinji, Ulloa, Drinky (still improving, it seems) & the centre backs should all contribute. Hopefully Slimani will give us a bit more goal threat even in games where we're on the back foot. I'm feeling quite positive about the season ahead.
Sionnach gorm Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 I believe this is gone very well. My concern is always been, and it still is, our defense, even with the great job our back three have shown in the last two games. Age is certainly a concern for the defense. The addition of Hernandez I see as a positive. I would've liked to see additional defenders. The principal reason being if either Huth or Morgan become injured we have, at the moment, few players that can take over. Our offense is just fantastic. Musa, Slimani, Vardy, Sinji, et al is massive. We added Gray last year that seems to be improving all the time, retained Mahrez and added the Polish national Kaputska who just seems quality. Most here seem to be concerned about our midfield. I think we have shored it up substantially with last years pick Amartey and this years addition Mendy. In all honesty I think this team is, on paper, stronger than ever...notwithstanding the loss of Kante.
foxy boxing Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 we did alright we got another striker which we needed although yet unproven in the premier league but we really needed a central midfieler which we didn't get, kante is a massive miss and there is no use denying that but other players will now have to step up like amartey but keeping mahrez is the biggest plus, we also could have more back up in central defense but we will see how the season pans out we have signed players with massive potential now they just have to show it
Guest Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 Average this window. The players we bought may or may not be great. only time will tell

Sionnach gorm Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 According to Twitter we seem to have done well http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-3770765/Claudio-Ranieri-deadline-day-s-popular-boss-29m-Islam-Slimani-signing-Slaven-Bilic-Ronald-Koeman-failed-impress.html
Mezeker Posted 2 September 2016 Posted 2 September 2016 mmm hard to say, Huth and Morgan have been shown to be outdone by pacy players when we are forced to play a high line. If he had addressed out tremendous vacancy in the center of the park of would have voted very well.

Bizarre how some people's minds work. That was away against a CL team with us down to ten men, being the the better side 11 against 11, conceding a last kick winner!
st albans fox Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 Some reports this morning in the press that n'zonzi pulled out of a move to us on wed because he found out he wouldn't be eligible to play for England. Seems a a strange one to me and probably just some words to fill space in a paper

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 Pretty good intake, but would like to have seen a right back added. No complaints really, though.
GloverFox Posted 4 September 2016 Posted 4 September 2016 ... taking it as read that some folks wouldn't be pleased unless we'd signed Messi at the very least I'm over the moon with the additional signing, nothing that is going to unsettle the happy-family band of brothers we currently have but more options across the piece to cover the one serious loss (yes, we all know who he is ... sad but time to move on!) .... Sorry to see Inler go, but the pace of English football clearly wasn't his style and thrilled to see Slimani coming in (... him and Mahrez are going to scare the pants off some defences, with Vardy and Okazaki causing them sleepless nights as well!!!! .... Oh yes please Sir, suits you Sir!!!!!!!) Very good window for us, without being totally stupid in the spending department.
bpfox Posted 5 September 2016 Posted 5 September 2016 i voted average, only because we did not sign a CM and a CH , we really needed that cover for the champions league, as long as we stay healthy we can address the situation in the next window.
desertfox2 Posted 6 September 2016 Posted 6 September 2016 Quite well. If Amartey can perform like he did in the last game then very well as that takes out the CM worry.
