Simpson v Hernandez.

One thing Simpson has that Hernandez doesn't is pace. Simpson's pace gets him out of trouble when he's out of position, were as Hernandez hasn't got that luxury. Against poor sides he can do a job but no way is he ahead of Simpson.

Hernandez throw ins are unreal. They're better than Fuchs throw ins. Hernandez is a good passer but he is still finding his feet in the PL so I'd stick with Simpsonn atm.

simpsons a better defender. technically on the ball hernandez probably offers more but having a defence that could defend and didn't give a shit about the ball is why we won the league so let's not change that unnecessarily

Not as simple as one or the other for me.

Simpson is currently better defensively, but hernandes will improve in that regard over time, and those throw ins will be invaluable with Slimani in the box.

If I was Claudio I'd rotate the two pretty freely - keep the opposition guessing so they can't predict (and try to negate) our play style in advance

Simpson for sure but that throw is probably more effective than our corners! So useful to have. Not convinced on Hernandez yet but did ok today. Would like to see us sign a top RB or at least a talented youngster who will eventually take over from Simpson in the Chilwell mould.

One of the best RB performances I saw from a youngster was when United played Spurs last season and Tim Fosu Mensah played exceptionally well. Infact when he was replaced by Darmian United fell apart and lost the game 3-0.

He seemed excellent for them at times last season, seems Mourinho doesn't fancy him. I wouldn't mind him here one bit

Totally agree. I thought he was awesome that day. Strong, quick and composed. Mourinho seems to like to hold onto any half decent youngsters though and loan them to clubs around europe until he bins them 3 years later for nothing. Someone to keep an eye on though.

I'd rather have Simpson but I think he needs upgrading on, or some competition at least. It's ****ing horrible saying shit like that about someone who genuinely seems to love this club and this group of players who was an integral part in our best season ever.

I think Simpson deserves to be playing right now but I think we would all feel more comfortable if we had someone else. A genuine RB who can slot in and even push Simpson for that starting place. If Simpson plays as well as he did last season, then great, but if not, we have our young Chilwell-alike RB waiting for his chance!

Hernandez is capable of being a decent back up to Simpson, for me, given more time. He was exposed several times tonight, but Simpson isn't lightning quick either. Neither is Fuchs, for that matter.

What Simpson does have is proven quality, an excellent understanding with his CB's, and a real sneaky (almost Italian!) side which gets him out of trouble on a regular basis.

Hernandez is going to be involved more, and I think judgement on him should not be rushed as I personally have only seen him play 2 games both in different positions.

Once he is more settled within the club. I assume his performances will peak and a better judgement can be made.

On comparisons so far. Simpson lacks agility, which if against a more agile opponent he struggles.  Hernandez so far has lacked strength in the premiership and was bullied vs Hull. Against Brugge his winger was rapid, so hard it's to critisise his speed in that comparison.

Remember when Simpson was shit because of what he got up to in his personal life? lol

No - Simpson was shit irrespective of his personal life.

Has to be our most improved player though - some fabulous performances last season. Agree that he does look more solid than Hernandez. However, Kitchandro's right, we need a new RB.

Qucker to teach Simpson to throw the ball or Hernandez to polish up his defending.

Long season and we will need both players.

Lets not forget Simpson was allowed to cement the position as his own after several early iffy performances.

Hernandez does not look very quick on the turn and he tends to forget to get compact when his winger does not have the ball, that is how balls are getting slipped in behind him. If the coaches can correct this then his lack of pace will not be so easy to exploit. I am sure he will get better under Ranieri. Would give Simpson the edge for now, but by January Hernandez might have adjusted to the Prem and be quite a tidy signing considering he was on a free.

Very good throw but looks like a Centre half playing at Right back. Maybe we could use him against the lesser sides to give Simo a rest when needed.

hernandez has a great throw but looks very nervous when the opposition attack while simpson has been magnificent for us these last few seasons and i expect him to regain his place once he is fully fit
