Needing some advice (minor spoiler)

ok, so after the sky island I've arrived in Hyrule proper and found the village where the game gently nudges in one of four directions in in particular to the North West. Very early on in this trek you meet a massive enemy on a bridge. Tried to take him down but failed. Watched  a YT video and the guy was absolutely tooled up to the nines with all manner of weapons. So my question is - am I attempting this quest too early? What sort of weapons combos should I be equipping myself with?

not sure how to do the spoiler but is the enemy sleeping initially? you can just go round them by sneaking if it's the one I'm thinking of

I wont hide it as i do not believe its really a spoiler. Direct shots to the eye will stun them enough for you to run in and attack him from the front (hitting him in the back wont damage him) . Or as Doctor says above you can sneak past him at night time. You can sit by a fire and select to wait until night time.

I know where you refer to as i have just passed him myself. However i went to a different place (North East) first. So now i'm tooled up enough.

It maybe worth you going around increasing your health to give you some much needed defence. Ive spent quite some time already just exploring

Having so much fun just exploring and not even doing any main or even side quests

Just going around doing shrines, towers, caves etc.

Spent like 5 hours today on it and done just 1 main story mission lol

2nd dungeon found and completed. Alot easier than the first dungeon but I think that's due to me understanding the mechanics of the game more and more. Boss was simple but still enjoyable. I feel like I'm really getting into it but I know for sure I have barely scratched the surface.

Feel like I really need some good armour. 1 hit from a boss takes away loads of health. Think I'll do some more shrines tomorrow

Guess I should make an effort to explain my adoration for this game so far.  Whilst being a huge fan of BOTW, there were many things that were just irritating and have been fixed in TotK.  Go to a chest with a full inventory and you can choose which item to drop without having to back out and do it manually, woohoo.  The tower launches allow for some really fast map traversing too that removed the tedium of plodding across the entire world when you don't want to (sometime I love to wander).  Shame that the winter weather clothing is, once again, at the top of the mountain...guess it's hard to teach recipes if they just gave this to you mind.  On that subject, the appropriate clothing for the climate was irritating in BOTW and it's irritating here.  Get rid!

Regarding ther new stuff, the building is just brilliant.  It feels like you're outwitting the devs even though you're probably doing exactly what they intended.  It's such an elegent mechanic which must have been an absolute pig to implement as well as they have done.  Again in BOTW you basically had to spec into stamina to fully explore the world.  With the structures and vehicles you can get up massive cliff faces without the chore of climbing up and praying you don't run out of puff.

Similar to moore, I've just been doing the shrines as I love figuring those out, don't think I've done a single quest either ^_^.

The amount of times ive been down a well and thought shit how can i get out lol

i'm literally playing it every chance i get. Working from home means i am playing it for like 30 mins 2-3 times during work hours lol

The weapon degradation bothered me so much in BOTW but in this i've not been bothered at all. I think the fuse ability makes weapons much more manageable. Either that or i'm just enjoying the game so much i'm not even thinking of what's annoying me.

Just got to Tarrey Town, which i vaguely remember from BOTW. I probably should have replayed BOTW to familiarise.

Ha same. Was smashing my head against a wall trying to get into one of the towers via a cave beneath. Had to check online and slapped my forehead at my own stupidity in not figuring it out myself.

Took me a while to get around to them all but finally just unlocked the last tower

That's some good going. Think I've still got like 4 or 5. Just made it to Kakariko Village.

I think the wife is going to divorce me soon cause she is going bed on her own every night whilst I'm sat downstairs smashing Zelda lol

Not had much chance to play this week, but hopefully should get some time this weekend!

To be fair I made it my plan that once I had the glider to go and get all the towers to make exploring a bit easier

Actually took a bit longer than I expected because of getting distracted by shrines, sky islands etc.

Once I start exploring it is so hard to come away from the game, late last night just before was going to come off I came across Hateno Village, spent like an hour longer on it than I wanted just doing stuff around there lol

I want to explore but then when i find a really cold environment i cant be bothered to go cook something for resistance. So i end up seeing a shrine in the distance or going into the depths to loot.

I got to Kakariko last night and i wanted to explore but found myself nodding off with the Switch in my hands. Think i need a night off lol

Was playing during a little work break today and decided to head to Hateno Village. Like every other player, I got distracted by millions of things along the way…

Just before I got there, I came across a bokoblin camp. Ran in, took the first few guys out, but then the big fella and his armoured minions came. There was a TNT barrel lying around so my plan was to fuse it to a damaged spear and toss it at them, but then I went and fused it to my shield by accident. Then - again by accident - I shield surfed which immediately blew up the TNT, set everything on fire and sent me in an updraft from which I could snipe the big guy with bomb arrows.

**** I love this game!!!!

Should probably add that his minions completely obliterated me as soon as I landed :D

Spent a good hour or so in the shrine with the rotating pivot where you have to attach a bat and get a ball to hit the target. First one was easy enough, but spent yonks adjusting angle to try to hit the second optional target to get a chest. Then finally, the bat sheared off on the final attempt, the ball still missed the target but the bat went flying off and activated the target with its battered wreckage. Was laughing for a good 5 minutes lol

3rd dungeon complete. Took all of about 15 mins, very easy.

But my god what a great boss fight. Best one by far. Really enjoyable.

Has anyone else tackled any of the phenomena?

I feel like I should explore more but then I find myself naturally going towards a main quest then I can't stop until it's done.

I also love the fact that even though I have quite a few hearts, 1 hit absolutely ruins me. Keep forgetting to drink a defence elixir lol

Yeah I took ages doing that one as well. The second one as you say was a right bastard. I kept smacking it into the barrier thingy to the point that I ultrahanded it in the air for 10-15 secs, then used recall on it before running over to the switch to flick the ball over there. All that work for a bloody opal lol  tremendously satisfying nevertheless and cool to hear of the different solutions although yours sounds pretty bonkers!

Wow you’re smashing the main quest. Nice work. I did the Rito one and haven’t really progressed since. Just been exploring.

I promised the wife I would come to bed tonight.

Is it bad that I regret saying yes to her lol

Did you specify a time?
