Any idea how much Leicester would earn in prize money if they qualified for the last 16 of the champions league?

I think  I read recently that Chelsea earnt around £55 million last year for exiting at the round of 16 stage

That would include all bonuses (wins, draws, losses, finishing x in group stage, tv money etc etc) for the whole CL campaign. I think Real (winning it) got over €100m

Prize money

As of 2015–16, UEFA awards €2 million to the play-offs winners and €3 million to the eliminated clubs in the play-off round. For reaching the group stage, UEFA awards a base fee of €12 million. A win in the groups is awarded with €1.5 million and a draw is worth €500,000. In addition, UEFA pays teams reaching the first knockout round €5.5 million, each quarter-finalist €6 million, €7 million for each semi-finalist, €10.5 million for the runners-up and €15 million for the winners.

  • First Qualifying Round: €200,000
  • Second Qualifying Round: €300,000
  • Third Qualifying Round: €400,000
  • Play-offs Eliminated: €3,000,000
  • Play-offs Winners: €2,000,000
  • Base fee for group stage: €12,000,000
  • Group match victory: €1,500,000
  • Group match draw: €500,000
  • Round of 16: €5,500,000
  • Quarter-finals: €6,000,000
  • Semi-finals: €7,000,000
  • Losing finalist: €10,500,000
  • Winning the Final: €15,000,000

So far Leicester have earned €5m. With another expected win on Tuesday and (worst case scenario) a loss away to Porto, it's likely that a place in the last 16 would earn Leicester  €10.5m even if they lost both legs.

Do all group teams get this  "Base fee for group stage: €12,000,000" + the match win/draw fees

Apologies - yes I didn't include this - so total earned from the competition 22.5m in fixed amounts, with additional revenue from the market pool in variable amounts (around 507m between all clubs participating from the group stage onwards.

Hardly pays for a new player. TV Rights and advertising is where the real money will be.

Doesn't  that money include the tv rights and advertising which surely belong to uefa

I think I'm right in saying that that's just the prize money and we'll also get a slice of the tv rights as well.

Surely the tv and advertising is the source of the prize money where else are they going to get all those millions of euros from.

http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2398575.html that explains it in detail, but its pretty complicated.

Edit - So if I'm reading it right theres a separate pool of money (507million euros) thats divided between countries based on the value of their tv market and we get 40% of englands share

I read it was estimated at 60 million GBP at the start of the competition to qualify for the last 16 stages and then further more per appearance.

Yes here is how it works

every group  team gets 12m ,

then 1.5m for a group stage win

 .5m for a draw

5.5m for reacing last 16

4m in gate reciepts and your looking at all added up your looking at around €28m euros in what they call Fixed prize pool earnings , that's what should get  for reaching at least  last 16 berth , if we win a few of our 4 minimum remaining games that will flourish

then there is the English €70m TV pool fund

this is brilliant Because the champions of England get 50% or €35m of that pool just for being champions of England

So we are well on course for €60m from champions league footie this season , go and win it and it's €100m
