No wonder we went down. The best thing MM did for us was sell. Perhaps the only correct decision he made while owning our club.
MC Prussian Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Also featured on today's BBC Football Focus FA Cup special, where he mentions his heart condition and his time at Brentford: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/live/bbcone?area=london
Tuna Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 I think we all suspected Mandaric was signing the players in, interesting reference to Kaebi there. Some of the people who came in in Summer 07 were quite incredible - Sergio Hellings, Jimmy Neilsen, Carl Cort, Kaebi - no wonder we went down.

For all of MM's faults he prevented us from going into administration for a second time which would have been catastophic
TJB-fox Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Don't believe everything you read, Allen was a complete moron here. I know for a fact that the players (led by Fryatt) went to Mandaric and basically said 'he goes or we refuse to play' sort of thing. Yes Mandaric was probably naive but Allen treated the players bizarrely.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Mandaric was good for helping the club financially and selling on to great owners, but poor for intervening with what was happening on the field. Which explains why arguably our worst years was with him as owner
China Black Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 He was never given enough time. He was got rid of too soon.

I've never blamed Holloway but I did blame Allen at the time for the mess. Allen said all of this and more a while ago on Radio Leicester though so I've known for a while and finally put the blame where it really belongs, firmly at Mandaric's door.
sylofox Posted 7 January 2017 Author Posted 7 January 2017 Just now, Beauchamp said: For all of MM's faults he prevented us from going into administration for a second time which would have been catastophic he never did that for us. He bought us cheap and got rid at a decent profit.

We don't doubt that, I'm sure the players didn't appreciate working in the ticket office etc. At the time it also seemed the colour co-ordinated flowers were more important than anything
MC Prussian Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Coming back to Martin Allen, I'd say his excessive behaviour on the touchline finally caught up with his health. Despite his odd personality and the negative aftertaste following his dismissal at LCFC, I wish him well and a cupset with Eastleigh at Brentford.

In the absence of any other investment we would have been in administration in the close season. The consortium led by jon holmes, greg clarke and gary lineker was had sought investment or a buyer for several months prior to the mm deal. The deal effectively covered the clubs debts and little more. With the ground still owned by a US pension fund there was precious little tangibles on the balance sheet and no goodwill offered.
J.Lisemore Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Am I right in thinking Birch got in touch with Mandaric? I remember Wolves' owner Morgan wanted to tempt MM to buy them instead.

I know and understand all of that. Still he never woke up one morning and thought I am going to save Leicester. He was offered the club and realized he could make money.

Nick Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 No Martin Allen misjudged the appointment massively - he wanted a team ethos and tried to generate that by having the players do lots of different jobs within the club whether it be cleaning or marketing or washing kit etc..... This was fine at first but it droned on (as did he) He was a lower league manager not cut out for man managing players in higher divisions. He lost the dressing room or at least a number of key faces sadly.
bovril Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 He's hardly set the football world alight since leaving Leicester. Always came across as a Phil Brown type to me. Lower league motivator out of his depth in the higher leagues.

I'm not for one minute suggesting he was a particularly good manager but in the end we did go down that season, so replacing him with Megson & Holloway weren't exactly good decisions. We can only speculate what would have happened if we kept him but we do know that what we did do was get it wrong.
TAFKA Castroneves Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Interesting stuff, during that season I was mates with a guy at Uni called Milan (a lovely chap from a Serbian family background - who I spotted one day in a Leicester training top and gear in my lectures and so had a chat with) and he was brought in by Milan Mandaric as a trialist after having played with Saints and Readings academy - had his number on his phone and everything. So i'm not overly surprised that Mandaric was signing the players as I saw it first hand. Makes you think Mandaric and Harry made a personal fortune at Pompy really!

Majorly pissed off some of the bigger characters

Yes, the post admin owners had taken us as far as they could but no risk of administration. As for Allen, most people at the club were glad to see the back of him, well out of his depth.
Raj Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Allen came from a club where he had complete control of everything. He came to City and thought he could do the same. People who were experts in what they did were being yoldby Allen what to do. He even interfered in what flowers etc were planted at the training ground! He bought his small club mentality to us and it fooked people off.
Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 7 January 2017 Posted 7 January 2017 Didn't the mad dog change the colour of the flowers at the training ground? Very odd times. ha and I've just read the above post immediately after posting ?
