This is my criteria, in the best possible situation where you could bring the best out of one of them, who would you choose? That's not the criteria of who's a better player though that's just your opinion. I'd pick the more consistent performer which even you can't claim Riyad is. For what it's worth I love Riyad and will always regard him as a Leicester legend (as all the title winners are). I hope he gets his dream move but I don't see how that could be Arsenal
ARM1968 Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 I'd go for season on season performance levels, and that means Willian. In in a perfect world, if you could join the two you'd have the new Messi. As it stands Mahrez is occasionally brilliant but more often than not is quite and a bit sulky. By contrast, even when all around him were downing tools, Willian performed at a consistently high level.

ARM1968 Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 How many titles has Deli Ali or Harry Kane won? I'd swap Mahrez for either in a heartbeat. Even though I think Ali is a squashed face petulant cvnt.

Maybe after he leaves and preform (good or bad) we will revisit this discussion in 6 months, 1 year or even two years
jayfox26 Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 Personally feel we need to sell him as soon as possible so we can find a decent replacement. He clearly doesn't want to be here and i for one dont want any player at the club that doesn't want to be here, don't care who it is, nobody is bigger than our club. Sooner its done we can all move on and everyone can stop having a go at each other about his abilities. Will always love Mahrez for what he's done for the club and for helping us to the title and the for the great skills and goals hes produced but i will also remember how he has disrespected our club by trying to force a cheap move away. Should never have publicly said he wanted to leave, regardless of what agreement he had with the owners. Good luck to him, but if he performs like he did last season, he won't get much game time at Arsenal or Barce

Hope he fulfils his potential as his ability isn't really the thing in question here I get the impression that if he leaves you won't be here to revisit the conversation in a year or two
Buzzell Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 Willian grafts more than Mahrez but I think Mahrez is more effective imo.

Personal accolades> team accolades to determine the better player, just like this year, mesai had the better season but ronaldo had the more successful season (team accolades wise)
ARM1968 Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 Consistency is pretty obvious and so is a lack of it. Mahrez was FAR from consistent last season, unless you mean consistently average. He is a great player, but it's not enough to turn up when you feel like it these days. It's not enough to have one good game in 4 or 5.

I'm not using that as a stick to beat Mahrez with, it's just my honest opinion

tom27111 Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 To put this Mahrez v Willian thing into context, If Mahrez was Brazilian, I don't think he'd be playing for the national team. Willian is better. Much better.
ARM1968 Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 Do we know what Chelsea value Willian at? Doubt it would be less than £40 million.

I just don't think a player can go from a poty to this! I'm not blinded by bias. Riyad had a bad season and i'm not afraid to admit it, just think that he can do better if he had the right players around him.

frany104 Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 Willian is better than Mahrez. Not gonna happen but if a straight swap was offered I'd snap it up.
Finnegan Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 I think Willian would suit us more than Mahrez to be honest.

We'll Arsenal certainly isn't the club for him then I actually think he'd suit Chelsea but as my original post stated I don't think he'd be guaranteed to start so would need to play at his very best on a consistent basis. Funnily enough I've just been watching the MOTD of when we beat Man City 3-1 at the Etihad. Absolutely ruined them that day. Otamendi!
ARM1968 Posted 24 June 2017 Posted 24 June 2017 No it's not going to happen - just hypothetical. It just shows, however, the delusions of some regarding Mahrez. We all know the guy is great but so inconsistent.

Imagine a fully rested combo of hazard and mahrez against any team's fullbacks For me, mahrez has some great flashes that win you games but the games that he took over for the whole time are very few (I can remember the Everton home game in the end of the title winning season) Can't believe that kantè left and the management not only didn't try to get the best out of mahrez, but they left a hole in the midfield for half a season. Oh what could've been
