The problem with keeping Shakey - player respect

Mahrez will move, but when he finds he's not the big dog anymore, when his band of brothers aren't there anymore, when that camaraderie isn't the same anymore, when he isn't undroppable anymore, he will realise the grass isn't always greener and that bigger clubs aren't what they cracked up to be...even if his wallet is slightly fuller.

On a side note, I went for a stadium tour today and would thoroughly recommend it.  The facilities for the players is incredible.  Why anybody would want to leave our great club is beyond me ;).

I think when/if Mahrez finds himself in a team where there are other creative midfielders who are more of a threat than what we've got  the opposition won't be able to double/triple mark him and he will shine.

I'd snap a hand off for £40m. Great feet and touch but no where near as good as he thinks he is.

ppl on here saying no one can do the things he can do but the amount of times he loses the ball when he could do a simple thing is a lot more than one good pass to albrighton who made our goal.

What happened too that player that ran the length of the pitch for Copenhagen in the 90th minute. He looks so timid these days.

He's clearly got it in the locker. Seen him do it a few times for us but so rarely. As people have pointed out, when he lets go a bit he can be very powerful and looks decent.

Hope Shakespeare gets the job.

The only concern is will he be willing to upset the first team by signing the several quality additions needed.

If for whatever reason we aren't playing our famous high tempo, relentless best then it can be shocking to watch.

It seems all or nothing with us, if we want to play defensively we need players who aren't scared of having the ball.

Shakespeare has done a bloody good job, and he could still get it, but he needs a support mechanism in place to be successful, Stowell isn't that.

Great point

Teams and players need to evolve, the players have served us well.

I for one would say if they think they can do better elsewhere then they should be allowed to do that ( At the right price )

As for Shakespeare, he's done a great job but if the club brought in a "Big" name Manager would that change players minds ?

I don't know the answer but time will tell and either way............. The club will still be there and it's the club I support.

I'll finish with, they look at what The Little French Guy achieved since he left us and probably think " I want a bit of that "

Open the revolving (evolving) door

There's more chance of Shaky persuading our better players to stay than some so-called "big name".

As for Kante he's achieved no more than when he was with us so far and that from a theoretically weaker position who's to say how we'd have done if he'd still been here.

The key for us is to do what's best for Leicester City and if that means keeping players who are contracted to us until such time as it's sensible for us to sell then so be it.

Our players have worked wonders for us but we've paid them over and above their contracts in the main (thinking of the gifted cars) and given them the stage and situation to turn themselves into household names so we've played our part and don't owe anyone anything except for gratitude and respect.

Just as players have ambitions so should we have. And we shouldn't jeapardise them just because it sometimes doesn't suit people.

I think Amartey is a far better choice than King. King can't compete physically in the Premier League, while Amartey is very strong and athletic. I though he should have started yesterday and I thought he was instantly better when he came on. Maybe I rate Amartey more than most, but it just seems blindingly obvious?

It's amazing how much success King has had as a footballer - including a Premiership title - for a guy who supposedly "can't compete." And how little Amartey seems to have impressed since he's been here for all his so called size and strength.

Like others I harboured hopes for the guy. but the reality is I've been disappointed. For a young man he seems to lack energy and urgency. He just seems to freewheel through games without showing anything that actually sets him apart.

The first thing I noticed was how unaware he seems to be when it comes to tracking runners - a vital quality in a defensive midfielder. But he doesn't memorably impact on anything - tackling, heading, passing, shooting, whatever.

Yes,  he gets involved in the game and does alright in the main, but that's it. I can't see anything that sets him apart as Premiership standard as was apparent in people like Mahrez, Kante, Vardy and a few more - from the moment they first worse the shirt.

Competence is only the basis for a Premiership footballer. They also have to  something more, something that sets them apart and enables them to make a difference.

To be fair, player respect can be an issue whoever you are, Ranieri, Mourinho, Andre Villas Boas, Roberto Mancini - all good managers, all have been in a situation where the players didn't respect them and they were out. Such is player power these days that no manager is immune from that, I don't think Shakey is any different from the vast majority in that respect.

He has that pitch arrogance, a quicj eye For the space, for colleagues or himself. Hes no Messi  or Ronaldo, history will

Write that story..!!

He looks arrogant, thats part of his make up, but why must you mark your sentence, with a spiteful side remark, your not the 1st by all means.,

I never understand the quip to any potential or talent.".he is not so good as he thinks he is"

Always a ting of envy, or Spite...Why ??

About time we provided the same whether for Mahrez or anyone else.

Yes it is.

I've said all season that it was primarily Kante who enabled Mahrez to do his damage because he won the ball, burst forward and gave it to Mahrez FURTHER up the field. Look at how Willian, Pedro and Hazard have been able to play this season.

They've been backed by Matic and Kante behind them so haven't had to do much defending! Their job has been to receive the ball in a more dangerous position and do something with it.

Mahrez would be the same. If you chucked Mahrez into that Chelsea side, he'd look like Pedro.

We must improve our midfield in the summer. Amartey and King are just not good enough imo. And Mendy....we'll have to see when he's fully fit.

This is going to be really difficult for the owners.

What if they do go for a new big name manager now, I cannot see him accepting Shakey as assistant knowing that, mainly the media, blamed Shakey/senior players for downing tools and getting Ranieri the sack ... I didn't think this at any time during the season and certainly not now.

What if they do give it to Shakey and, following player departures/failed player signings, we struggle in the league and are in the bottom 3 come December ... what then?

Glad I'm not the owner but I'll fully support whichever course they take.

Another problem the owners may have with Shakey is that outside the suburbs of the midlands he's a little name in an ocean of global names. In a weeks time there is premier league managers job up for grabs yet I hear no media hype and speculation on the position.

I fear a brand name may be brought in to bolster any summer transfer deals. He has left his England coaching position "for the time being" as quoted by Southgate and is welcome back any time.

I don't want this; just saying, but we're Leicester and we know that weirdest stuff happens.

No one joined us under Ranieri because we had Ranieri as coach, they joined either for money or latterly the Champions League.

All our 'best' players joined under a non big name, heck the 'biggest' player we've ever signed (Cambiasso) joined under Pearson.

Players sign for money, good players sign for more money, great players sign for even more money and European football.

You make a lot of decent points. I am not claiming that Amartey is much more than competent. He is l, and will continue to be, a good squad player. However, I do think he is a better option than King when we are away from home vs the top sides. I think King is ok as part of a three man midfield. He is decent on the ball and his decision making is sound. Although, I still maintain that he struggles in terms of athleticism.

I would never sell Mahrez. We could get 30/40m for him but what would we get in return. Yes he's not been as good as last season but who has. We've seen with Musa and to a degree Mendy and Slimani that spending large amounts of money does not always improve the team.

Mahrez is a game changer, a creator, a match winner and I for one would never let him go as we will never have a player like him again in our life times.
