she needs a much better PR team or at least some sort of brain. she's been attacked for months for being some robotic, heartless pr ick, could've got the faintest of pointless brownie points if she'd just shook a few hands and said "oh I'm sorry it must've been awful etc." instead of proving how robotic she is by literally turning up to a place where hundreds of lives have been ruined just to start an investigation.

however if she'd have tried to chat to anyone they'd probably have just abused her so swings and roundabouts.

The PM taking a few additional minutes to show some ****ing humility isn't exactly asking much is it? She hid herself away because she knew that people are angry and she doesn't like/want confrontation from the public.

On the other hand:

Yeah - she looks ****ing gutted to have a caring arm around her - someone to share the grief and listen to her woes.

Corbyn, whether you like it or not is a man of the people - he'd be doing exactly the same thing if he was PM.

I see he scored some brownie points with you.

By being a normal ****ing human being? Yeah - that definitely 'scores points' with me.

Silly me, wanting someone with a bit of empathy and able to form a connection to every day people governing my country.

I'd rather have someone doing their job tbh.

Different strokes for different folks and all that.

Shows the state of politics in the UK when the electorate are so not used seeing politicians engaging with people in a human way that when someone consistently does it's a PR stunt.

You do realise that having empathy and being able to do a good job running the country aren't mutually exclusive?

You can have someone who cares about people and is willing to engage them ALSO 'doing their job' at the same time?

Do you go into work, do a good job but just act like an arsehole to everyone because you can't manage both at once?

Maybe you do.

This all day long.

Just because she doesnt need to be right in the middle of the scene, any decent PR team would have her looking genuinely massively upset about this. And she prob is anyway. The tory PR bods aint much good are they.

I just do my job. If a co-worker smashes his thumb with a hammer, I ain't going to waste my working time giving him a hug and making him feel better. We've got first-aiders for that, which is their job.

The worst thing about this latest fake outrage is if she had been there sniffing around for a few hours, posing for the camera like old comrade, odds on we'd have the same whiners ranting "what is she doing posing for pictures, get the investigation under way, the people demand answers!!!".

Sorry, I don't spend my life looking for something to be outraged over, I don't want the high blood pressure ta.

Here's to hoping the next time you smash your thumb with a hammer at work the first-aider is off sick and your co-workers afford you the same amount of empathy you'd afford them.

I'd imagine the only upset she's feeling is more of a 'for **** sake, another issue to deal with' rather than much of a genuine concern for the little people.

Her paint by numbers speech this morning could have been delivered more empathetically by a piece of blank cardboard covered in dog shit.

We wouldn't be at work without a first-aider, against company policy. People die doing my job, I'll let you know if it ever happens at my workplace so you can get your jollies off being outraged. Again, I'll be more worried about finding out why it happened though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think we should have an empathy competition, just to see who is the greatest human alive.

Sure beats warring humanity into an early grave.

(I understand however that this isn't a straight dichotomy between one and the other.)

Hang on... she has a duty to meet these people to understand what they need from the government, both in the short term and long term.

There also seems to be a massive lack of co-ordination with the aftermath of efforts, in terms of identifying where people that have survived are, getting people temporary accommodation and essentials they will need such as clothes and given sees someone in ultimate power, maybe she should be looking to sort this out.

Actions in the aftermath of a major incident can be the making of any leader... she has failed miserably on 3 occasions in the past month now - and in this case you could consider her actions suggest a feeling of underlying guilt here.

She's the PM. I don't think Corbyn is trying to get "brownie points", I know many who have met him and he genuinely connects easily with people. I don't however like the implication that if you don't hug a grieving survivor you are somehow devoid of empathy. Some people are better at offering emotional support directly. I doubt the PM is not devastated by the tragedy. She's also got a punishing schedule and suffers from type 1 diabetes.

Theresa May getting even more stick

today I see.

We're all different and she's clearly not a 'touchy feely' type of person.

She's openly admitted that she struggles with the whole public interaction thing as part of being a politician these days.

I think the fact she's gone through life unable to have children may have something to do with it. She referes to a constant feeling of 'loss' in interview a few years ago.

Corbyn on the other hand has 3 kids and is great at interacting with Joe Public.

Good for him, but it doesn't mean I want him in charge of the economy.

You probably put it better than me. Although I'd prefer Labour in charge of everything bar the economy.
