I actually think that’s one of their better plans.

Foreign investors are buying up properties in London and don’t even bother to rent them out because the return is good enough as it is. It’s not ideal and sure it doesn’t sit comfortably with me that homes could be seized in this way but how else do we stop this shameless profiteering wrecking our way of life?

Maybe not sell the houses to outside investors in the first place.

Sure but that just stops it getting worse, how do we rectify it?

Of course there is an argument for it, and if that tickles your pickle then great. But for me, I'd rather be unfair/selfish, I don't expect anyone else to look out for me and I'm not sure why people expect me to look out for them tbh.

Because in some cases looking out for everyone is in your own self-interest too, and there are some issues that begin by affecting strangers and then extend to affect everyone?

As much as some folks like to think that every man/family is an island, there are times - many times - where mass-interest and self-interest end up overlapping - unless you're simply looking to win the "last one to die" prize.

What strawmen? I've told you why I'd vote for him. You've asked why people don't vote for the common good without defining what the common good is. Your posts are meaningless waffle which nobody can answer without you being able to deny what you meant.

May I take this one up?

I think it's such a nebulous term that everyone will have different definitions, but my own take is ensuring humanity as a species survives for as long as possible. Like I said, other folks might think differently, though.

Easy, tell the current outside investors to sell up or rent out and give them a time limit, if they don't, change the locks and if they complain flash them the middle finger.

You and your hard anthropocentric heart!

"ensuring that the planet and all species survive for as long as possible and that all humanity enjoys life to the greatest extent possible"?

lol

That's probably a better definition right there, but at the end of the day it's all about survival. As a species, not a set of individuals.

The dude spends all day worrying about climate change, plastics, nukes, oils, random hair sprays, cow pats and asparagus.

At some point it'll hit him that's he's only got one life, the earth was here long before humans were and will still be here long after we're all dust. In the grand scheme of things, we just aren't that important.

It's okay to have fun once in a while man. :nigel:

Though you're probably right about the importance thing, I'd like to think that we can be, given the time and effort. Nowt wrong with a little aspiration after all, is there? :D

Haha, well my idea of fun is furiously masturbating and crying at the same time and then trying to beat my best lap time on Time Trial on Mario Circuit 1 on the original Super Mario Kart which, I suppose on reflection, is probably environmentally sustainable so the two things are not always mutually exclusive?

Hold on let me see if I can drag up some feels and do my best leicsmac impression.

Masterbation is good for your soul my friend, it helps you get to know yourself as a person. And it's okay to cry, there's no shame in that, you let those feelings out you'll feel much better.

As for the playing computer games? You're a bell. Wasting valuable resources in such a way is awful and you should be ashamed of yourself. Instead of wasting your time this way you could be out protesting the treatment of local chickens.

I'd need to see the detail to say what I think tbh.

If you were fair minded, so would you.

Funnily enough the Guardian didn't go into too much detail. I think it's against human rights legislation but I'm not certain.

It's going to be hard to draw a definitive conclusion based just on that article though isn't it?

I'd bet that for all his sociopathic bravado innovindill wouldn't say boo to a goose in real life. Give him half a chance to do some good in the world and I'm sure he'd take it, but for now he just doesn't know how, bless him.

I doubt it, tbh.

But at least he doesn't deny his moral indifference or try to excuse it with phrases like for the greater good as he puts his cross next to the Nasty Party candidate - let's reserve our contempt for those that do.

I wonder whether kids will change you if you have them mate.

Suddenly the future of the country and planet matter a lot more.

Perhaps you'll become a lefty.....

Until you get old and politics no longer affects you beyond the interest rate and you start voting once more for policies that will kick your family hard, of course....

What does any of that have to do with me liking geese? Have a word.

Putting a cross in a box doesn’t mean you care, it just seems to give you a right to pretend you do.

If the planet has no future there'll be no geese.
