I think £50 covers a couple of low-cost personal interests. Say a gym membership and a netflix/Amazon prime account. Or a takeaway, a few beers at home followed by a few in the pub on a couple of occasions. Plenty of low cost or free activities you could take part in as well. Admittedly you wouldn't be living the high life but that's not what minimum wage is for. Oh I wasn't suggesting you were wrong (or right for that matter, I'm not wading in to that argument at all) I'm just purely musing about how depressed I'd be to only have fifty quid a month spends.

Admittedly you wouldn't be living the high life but that's not what minimum wage is for. Exactly! This is the thing and anyone who has a decent house, can travel, eat, watch tv, go online, be warm, clean, have the odd few beers isn't living a terrible life in my view. But maybe I am a twat. I suppose its all down to perception, which is where arbitrary limits have issues. There surely has to be some limit. Id like to drive a Bentley but no one is going to pay for one for me, can I claim it makes me upset because I cant have my Bentley? Human nature is to want more than they have to be honest the best way to get that is to work harder and progress. Admittedly some need support to progress, I have a decent hard working guy who sweeps the floors and cleans bins and toilets at my workplace and he was complaining that he was stuck in a dead end job with no skills, I told him this is bollocks. He is now doing an NVQ in Cleaning. I explained that if you do an NVQ in cleaning you open a range of possible higher pay routes up and could even lead to owning a business one day. Some people just need encouragement and a bit of a kick. There are very few people that need to be stuck on a low wage forever with the correct support.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 3 May 2018 Posted 3 May 2018 An as of yet undecided amount on a 2018/19 season ticket. £2 on card, foil and marker pens for 'Puel's out for summer' banners. .

Alf Bentley Posted 3 May 2018 Posted 3 May 2018 I see that Corbyn is now combining his support for terrorism with his virulent anti-semitism to pose a deadly new threat to the nation: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/london-bonfire-explosion-jewish-festival-lag-baomer-stamford-hill-mobile-phones-a8333961.html

Strokes Posted 3 May 2018 Posted 3 May 2018 Listening to Chukka on the radio yesterday, I don’t agree with his position on the EU but I do really like him. Very honest and incredibly intelligent, should be on the front bench really.

Guest MattP Posted 3 May 2018 Posted 3 May 2018 You only get on the Labour front if you are this clever.

Let's be honest it is a sad indictment of current politics that people like him or Yvette Cooper are toiling away on the backbenches. I'm sure there are Conservatives who should be higher up as well but the only ones I know of are still relatively new/have minor ministerial roles anyway so it's more understandable.

leicsmac Posted 3 May 2018 Posted 3 May 2018 (edited) Evening Standard cartoon gets it pretty much spot on: If the UK does end up getting locked out of ESA and Galileo/other related projects, the realistic odds of the UK actually going ahead and energizing the space sector to make a system similar to Galileo are around nil IMO, sadly. Rogstanley Posted 3 May 2018 Posted 3 May 2018 When you've ran out of things to criticise, just make something up. That's the Tory way.

She's on the BBC tonight at 13 o' clock. It's a funny thing. Don't get me wrong, she shouldn't be anywhere near shadow home secretary, but I saw an interview the other day where she did rather well. Might have been sky. They asked her something about did she have sympathy with Amber Rudd for not having oversight over everything as she herself had sometimes struggled with detail. She said something she hasn't ever been responsible for people wrongly fearing deportation. She wasn't responsible for people wrongly being denied cancer treatment. She wasn't responsible for people visiting the Caribbean and being unable to get back home etc. It was a really, really good answer. But you can't find it anywhere on the internet. The whole place is full of the same two or three memes. It's a bit sad. As I say, she shouldn't be where she is but, a bit like Corbyn actually, people have a view and won't take any time to consider that there could be another side. Edited 3 May 2018 by Guest
