Loads of bees this year. Having to rescue 8-10 a day from the kitchen whenever the back doors are open.

I've also noticed this and have been conducting similar Bee SAR 😂 it's good news all in all!

I wasn't as forgiving with the European Hornet in the lounge. I've never seen such a large insect in the UK. It may have been a queen looking for a nest.

Probably intended kicking you out your house 🤣😂

Now have five Swallow nests, all brooding eggs. Haven’t lost any more nests to predators so far and several new ones have been built and now have eggs.
Most of the Rooks have fledged, just one or two flapping about in the top of the tree, training their wings for the first flight.
Badgers and foxes very active from evening to dawn and I’ve uncovered a single rabbit warren which I’m going to put a camera on, Granddaughter wants to see baby bunnies 😂
Trees are almost all in leaf, Laburnum full of flowers and fruit trees covered in blossom.
I love this time of year (although we could do with some rain).

For anyone that doesn't know and wants a flower in their garden with a Leicester connection. The perennial Potentilla otherwise know as the Cinquefoil as per Leicester City crest and county coat of arms. A very hardy plant in various colours like white, pink, yellow etc. Good plant to attract bees and butterflies from spring to autumn.

Saw two Choughs today. First time I've ever seen any in the UK.

I have a great site for Chough and nearly always see Ring Ouzel and Peregrine there too.

Never seen a Ring Ouzel, though I know what they are. (Blackbird with a collar lol)

I saw a bird land on a branch when I was walking at Markfield quarry recently.

A brief glimpse of what I'm pretty certain was a woodpecker: greenish plumage with a sort of red stripe on the head and upper body about the size of a starling.

If it was, it's a first for me.

Just had my garden landscaped and have two raised beds, both are a meter ish deep and one is about 15m long and the other approx 10m.

Quick maths I think the fill them up with some plants it's going to be 5-700 quid, where are the best places to get plants in south Leicester? My nearest Garden C is Sapcote. I literally know nothing about gardening or plants so can I go and ask someone there what to buy?

Hawgrips in Enderby is always good, though a little pricier than it used to be since Palmers took it over.

Having said that Palmers too. A huge selection of everything on the Narborough Rd near the Police HQ.

Garden centre in Sharnford owned by the one in Sapcote is very good if you just want plants.

Use the internet......

Online garden centres are much cheaper and have better selections.

Dependant on what you want to plant, bare root is the cheapest way of buying plants, but you are getting a bit late to plant them. That said, putting them in now they should survive if not thrive this year if you water every day after planting.

https://www.gardeningexpress.co.uk/ - 9.6% cash back with Quidco is decent as well.

We have had plenty from the above, but we have used many online sources, even ebay for plants.

Sounds like you need low maintenance shrubs and low ground covering plants. Do you have any membrane on the bed?
You probably don’t want to be constantly weeding or pruning I presume.
Don’t forget the pollinators 👍
