We wont be top six if we allow those clubs to grab any of our players of the quality to take us there. Every player has a price though. Anything over £30m has to seriously be considered and anything over £35m has to be a yes IMO. Whilst Drinkwater is one of our better players he isn't as vital as Vardy, Schmeichel and Mahrez. With Ndidi there now if Danny left it leaves a gap for James, Mendy or Iborra to secure that role. Anything north of £30m is surely good business from us?

We're not willing sellers but if you make us an exceptional offer you can have him. If Chelsea are desperate for English players and midfielders then Drinkwater is ideal. I suspect Kante has been asked his opinion of Drinkwater and gave a glowing reference. I wouldn't totally be surprised if Chelsea get this one over the line at any cost.

If they offer 35m, I've got mixed opinions. They're paying way over the odds imo, so it would seem good business. However, who the f**k do we replace him with at this stage in the proceedings when we're not even being linked with that type of player?
RoyFox Posted 15 August 2017 Posted 15 August 2017 As some have alluded to, Drinkwater and Kante bossed the league. Formidable partnership, both cover each other's backs, both can set up counters very quickly. Chelsea are interested for what he can do with Kante, as a single entity they wouldn't look at him. Maybe Kante has also suggested the idea?

I also see Adrien Silva hasn't got his move yet. With James, Iborra and Mendy I'd be quite happy to sell DD for £35m and let those three compete for his place and if thats a failure possibly replace in January. At £35m we have to sell IMO as he's a player who has been average at best for the last nine months and his influence has receded in the team in that time.

I agree, and I would still like to see Adrien Silva come in as his replacement. I watched quite a bit of him last season after we missed out on signing him. Looks a quality player to me.

Huge risk, two of those have had operations that have threatened their careers and Iborra is no spring chicken (which also increases his chances of injury).

How many times does this need repeating, he has been playing with an injury! Aaaaarrrgh.....

Even if James, Mendy or Iborra weren't up to the job for whatever reasons we still have King and Amartey to fall back on and we can buy again in four months if we're desperate. I think we can afford to take the chance as in all likelihood we'll be a mid table team anyway.

A nine month injury and still played through it, there's also the possibility that he never fully recovers and we've seen the best of him. With the uncertainty it's not a bad call to cash in on him if we get an obscene offer for him.

Grebfromgrebland Posted 15 August 2017 Posted 15 August 2017 I think the injury / strain occurred in the second half of last season. In the first half he was probably our best player. He never had the chance to rest and fully recover as we had no one to cover his position and time in the team. Hopefully now we have iborra, James and potentially a fit Mendy he won't have to rush back and not be hampered by his hip flexor or whatever. When fully fit he is current first choice. Mendy and James might be able to oust him but we haven't seen that level of performance yet from either of them.
Will1981 Posted 15 August 2017 Posted 15 August 2017 If we get 30m for him let him go and then activate n'zonzi release clause.
