Drinkwater

Don't sell him, no matter the price. We won't find an adequate replacement in only three weeks.

It's only Danny Drinkwater, not exactly a world beater. Without Kante alongside him he is bang average.

But isn't the point that we need more creativity? Wilf can do the defensive stuff.

If you are only playing two in central midfield then they both have to be able to break up play and get forward.

Imo, lose drinky and we have to play a central midfield three which probably commits us to 3-5-2 as 4-2-3-1 or 4-5-1 has never looked good for us

He's our second choice midfielder. It's a long, hard season and already we've started two midfielders down.

it would be a really dumb idea to sell him, so we won't.

Unless we have a replacement lined up already...

But I agree that Shakespeare is unlikely to sell him at this point and the club rate him higher than £25m.

If Drinkwater himself has asked for permission to speak with Chelsea, it becomes another matter...

Yes, unless we have a replacement, premier league experienced centre midfielder right on the verge of joining us

Why are you rolling your eyes? Is it so hard to believe that the club has potential targets lined up in case we have to act quickly?

Besides, it's not like Ndidi, Mendy, Kapustka, Kanté, Iborra, Cambiasso and Inler (our most recent central midfield acquisitions) had any prior PL experience, so what's your point?

Well of the most recent signings you mentioned, I'm not sure Mendy, Kapustka and Inler are great examples. Plus we've only just signed Iborra, so he's yet to play a competitive match for us - so too early to know whether he's a good acquisition or not!

..and no it's not hard to believe we have targets - but as we all know there's a lot of difference between a target and a signing.

So given the season has already started, I doubt the owners will sanction the selling of a key player unless a suitable player is  on the verge of signing for us. Especially when Iborra is injured and James was unable to complete 90 mins. Maybe I'm just being cautious!

They're just examples of the club's recruitment policy.

For all we know, there could be parallel negotiations under way is we take Chelsea's offer seriously.

But I would agree that selling Drinkwater for anything less than a ridiculous fee is an unlikely scenario.

Understood, although when you look at the clubs most recent recruits, they've all come from PL clubs - and IMO given the position we're now in with the season started, they're going to want someone with proven PL experience. Just an opinion though.

Hard to fathom anything less than £36m being accepted, plus there are very few options available that can tackle and start counters like Drinkwater can (at his peak). Closest replica is Adrien Silva, but that's doubtful, even more so if William Carvalho goes to West Ham.  In Ligue 1 similar players have been either bought already, or are tied into long contracts, again very few options available. In La Liga, Sevilla and Atletico seem to hoard midfielders that have similar output, yet again they are mostly unobtainable.

Stick.

Can see some movement happening this week with kante being only cm they have heading into game with Spurs on Sunday. Reckon deal will be done 25/30 plus add ons.

I heard that Chelsea haven't got the correct amount of English players in the squad! I'm hoping that if they sign oxlade-chamberlain that they won't go for drinkwater!

They have options tbf, Luiz can play there tbf,

DD wouldn't be fit to play Sunday either I wouldn't have thought if he did sign for them.

All due respect to Drinkwater he won't be in their first 11 when everyone is fit

This one is simple to me. Keep unless an obscene, panic driven bid is placed. A premier league winning, English midfielder in his prime. Is there another on the planet?

I still can't get my head around all the interest from them for him.

He isn't good enough to play for Chelsea.

I think they're getting desperate, god knows what is happening but the last 3 league champions (Chelsea, us and then Chelsea again) have had disastrous summers after winning the league. They badly need midfielders and Drinkwater has proven that alongside Kante he's a very good player. I could quite easily see him doing well there but equally losing confidence and being a flop. I hope he stays purely because we've very little time to replace him and a lot of realistic alternatives to him have sadly already moved this window.

You are underestimating Drinkwater.

Another Chelsea loss at the weekend could really see this one taking pace. Not what they need in the slightest but if they offer £35m I just can't see the club refusing it

We all know how good he can be for a club like us but the money being touted is an awful lot for a player who isn't going to be a regular starter

I think we should tell chelsea thet its not happening.  Dd has a contract with us.  We wont be top six if we allow those clubs to grab any of our players of the quality to take us there.

For us he is a regular starter. I'm pretty sure he's our no.1 midfielder. Ndidi may become that but he isn't at the moment.
