Past experience shows that you have more chance with a "big" club even if you get no games at all. What, if you're not playing, no chance. What does Southgate base his decisions on if he can't watch the player on a regular basis. There's no way he would ever pick a player for the England squad if he wasn't playing regularly for his club side.

One particular example from (recent) past experience is Jack Wilshere, but there are several others who have been picked for England in spite of making few appearances for their club (e.g. Delph).

Can't even remember when either of them last played for England, or how many times, but neither of them have been anywhere near close to playing for their country since. Same goes for appearances for their club sides. The two go hand in hand imo.

dannythefox Posted 12 August 2017 Posted 12 August 2017 The time is not right to let him go. Next season fine, when we have a replacement but we won't have enough time to bring in who we want this time around.

Hack Posted 12 August 2017 Posted 12 August 2017 I think Chelsea will come back with an offer that we eventually will accept, hopefully it will be over 30 mil. I am also think we do sell Marhez to Roma for just under 40 mil. Just a guess. If that is so then we are in for a whirlwind couple of weeks of transfer activity to use that money for replacements.

Guest Col city fan Posted 13 August 2017 Posted 13 August 2017 Heaven forbid if we have to go into a Prem League campaign with a midfield of James, King, Mendy, Amartey, Iborra. I shudder to think of it. That's a relegation midfield.

King at the back of the line.
Albert Posted 13 August 2017 Posted 13 August 2017 Chelsea's desperate need for a CM (especially an English one) automatically adds at least another £5m+ on top of the clubs valuation of Drinky and I'm sure this factor will be used in a transfer negotiation, if there even is one! The fact they sold Ake for £20m also justifies a valuation of at least £35m in the current market. Im a massive Drinky fan and would hate to see him leave but his type of player is easily replaceable. If we slapped a £40m price tag on him and Chelsea were willing to pay it I think it would make sense to sell
KingsX Posted 13 August 2017 Posted 13 August 2017 With Chelsea looking at a naked midfield against Spuds after today’s bookings, we could get a top-of-the-market offer for DD. Which prompts this ignorant -- but genuine --question. Nacho is coming ready. Shinji is indispensable ground cover, no stranger to breaking up a play or sending the through ball to Vardy, but only so much of a finishing weapon. A keener blade is now coming into the forward line, while we still have questionable central linking pieces. If we get that offer we can’t refuse for DD, what are the chances Shinji could refashion his game into a forward facing CM to rotate with Ndidi and James? Not to play wide, just further back. He already runs his ass off between the boxes. He could still move forward, even during a game. (Not that I'm thinking Rooney or anything.) Is this feasible? If so how long would it take? If not, pile on my bros.
Lcfcwigstonblue Posted 13 August 2017 Posted 13 August 2017 Shinji can't play in that role we would 100% need to find another midfielder if DD was sold. we have no guile in midfield.

RODNEY FERNIO Posted 13 August 2017 Posted 13 August 2017 We've already received a bid for Drinkwater from Chelsea ( source within the club ). That bid was £15 million and they are not prepared to increase this. The bid was obviously rejected. Sorry should be a bit clearer the source is from someone at Chelsea not Leicester.
foxinsocks Posted 13 August 2017 Posted 13 August 2017 Paper says chelski likey to make 25m bid... still not at the races Btw.... not sure how dd solves their problems
