Redouane Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 So gutted that Slimani was robbed of his hattrick. For that i will give him my MOTM. Gray played well but he's still selfish with the ball..
Brainy Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 9 - Slimani, King (Didn't see King put a foot wrong) 8 - Gray, Ndidi 7 - The rest 6 - Hamer, Mendy Sheff Utd - 4 (poor) Ref - 5 Stay
Guest the fox Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 10 for slimani, the best player in the first half by far, 2 goals (should've been 3) and a couple of key passes. Gray an 8, great goal and assist but drifted in and out of the game Maguire a solid 8, the rest of the defense and hammer a 7 King and n'didi and musa, asolid 8 (thought about giving musa a 7 but he put a shift in from the start) Leo is a 7 (a bit generous but he assisted the first goal) Musa
The Doctor Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 Shakespeare - 6 - Thought he got the starting line-up and tactics wrong, whatever he said half-time worked a treat though Hamer - 5 - Poor positioning for the goal, got lucky first half with his Rob Green (ca. WC 2010) impression, shoddy distribution. How he's ahead of Jakupovic genuinely baffles. Amartey - 7 - Solid defensively and supported Musa and Gray well going forward. If he can replicate that against better opposition he'd be a good alternative to Simpson Maguire - 7 - Bossed it again Fuchs - 7 - Not really troubled, although a bit dodgy start of the second half over playing it Chilwell - 7 - Caught out a couple of times but a good display, particularly going forward. Gray - 8 - Frustrating first half, but a great goal and cross for Slimani King - 7 - Kept things simple as always, pin-point through ball for Slimanis first. Ndidi - 7 - Pretty par the course for him, along with King they controlled the midfield well Musa - 6 - Some very smart movement, but some shocking touches. So-so Ulloa - 6 - Good work for Slimanis second but killed a lot of attacks with poor movement or reactions Slimani - 9 - Great work, poacher when he went up and doing a very good job spreading the play when he dropped deep, best I've seen him play Subs: Mendy - 7- Some nice play moving the ball around. If he can replicate that against top flight sides and stay fit then I'd say we're good for CMs Knight - 6 - great block, looked a potential talent. Sheffield United - 5 - Didn't pose that much of a threat I felt. Ref - 6 - bit card happy, and completely wrong over Slims disallowed hat-trick.

No way does Hamer or Ulloa even get a 5.
Guest ttfn Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 Hamer 5 Amartey 6 Maguire 7 Fuchs 6 Chilwell 7 Musa 5 King 7 Ndidi 7 Gray 8 Ulloa 6 Slimani 8
stevelcfc Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 Slim, King, Gray, Harry all very good. So pleased for the Moose but I suspect that is more for the comedy value. Hope the lad comes good. Good to see Knight out there and doing well too. Good professional performance
Bossman Blessed It Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 Hamer - 5 - We've found our new Conrad it seems. Let one slip under him which could have been a hell of a lot worse. Kicking was quite poor when he was required to aim precisely and he assumed their player would get his cross right when he toe banged into his near post. Clearly, he's probably about right at the lower end of this level. Chilwell - 7 - He's athletic, adventurous and always looked for the ball. Defensively he'll improve, particularly when to dive in or not - but he looked like he belonged at the higher end of the Championship already which is incredibly promising. Maguire - 9 - Brick shithouse. His massive head found it's way onto virtually everything they threw in there. Always looking to either run with it or pass too which is a joy to watch. Fuchs - 7 - Not his position but didn't look too out of place at all. Amartey - 7 - Looked fairly solid and played smart towards the end. Gray - 8 - They couldn't deal with him in the second half. We're in a bit of a pickle with him really as he still has a lot of work to do to reach Mahrez and Albrighton's impact to our team - BUT - he does need to be starting matches/ playing a lot more minutes. Absolutely devastating when he got a chance to run at their full back. Ndidi - 9 - Monster. Had both their midfielders in his pocket in the second half. King - 7.5 - Didn't do much wrong, but looked like he'd found the right pace for him when he was up against a Championship midfield. Musa - 7 - Made intelligent runs and always tried to carve something out. Good goal too. I reckon my Peugeot 206 has a better first touch though - astounding at times. Slimani - 8.5 - Great work for his goals, but he also missed a sitter and some of his play was reckless. Will do his confidence wonders however. Ulloa - 6 - Ineffective. Knight - 10 - One of the best 10 minute cameos you'll see all year. That block he made reminded me of Cafu!

Hamer had nothing to do and was beaten by a total fluke goal. Ulloa maybe but came into it better in the last 15/20mins (i realise there is still 70mins before that ) Musa in the end wasn't that bad at all, again most low votes for him is down to sentiment or simply based on his first 3 touches.
bridport007 Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 Sorry, but Ulloa is sh*t as far as I'm concerned. Slim, Musa and Gray are on the bench most weeks...as is Ulloa. The manager gives them a game and they all put a huge shift in apart from Ulloa. How that man has sweat on his brow is beyond me. I know he scored some big goals for us, but that was then and this is now! He is stealing a living and is Championship at best. Don't think he ran for the first 30 minutes?

I agree with all that - apart from your Hamer score (I'd give him 6) and (of course !) your 10 for Knight (though he did very well in his short time there - say 7).
LcFc_Smiv Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 Sorry but bar his goals Slimani was pure $hite, doesn't challenge for a thing and was bullied by a Championship defence. Decent finish for his first and he did his best to miss the second after Gray put it on a plate for him. Genuinely concerned this guy cost us as much as he did. Hamer- 5: Couldn't really see the goal from where I was but it looked like a clanger. Made some relatively comfortable saves. Needed to release the ball quicker at times you could see the frustration from our players. Amartey- 6: Not sure about him at right back, I think sometimes he's not too sure of the position either. Major frustration came in the first half when he overlapped and then had no intention of attempting to cross. Maguire- 7: This lad is going to be great for us, oozes class and did everything that was required of him. Fuchs- 6: Very steady performance out of position, think he got away with a few sly fouls that could easily have been given. Chilwell- 7: Maybe generous, I thought he was one of our better players first half, only player to show attacking intent. Did his defensive duties well Musa- 6: Very poor start. Picked up as the game went on and I don't actually think he did that bad. Looks like a massive confidence player, glad he got a goal. King- 6: Typical steady performance, I'm a King fan and don't understand the hate he gets. He does his job nothing more nothing less, decent assist. Ndidi- 6: Competent performance in the middle of the park from him, easy to forget how young he is. Gray- 7: Good little performance from him, very frustrating at times great ball to set up Slimani's second. Ulloa- 6: Lots of effort, put himself about but no real end product. He drops far too deep. Slimani- 6: Apart from two goals as above he was dreadful. Overall I think 4-1 was a good scoreline without really being anything special. Thought United played well for the most part, I wouldn't mind having David Brooks at our club he will be some player.

KingsX Posted 22 August 2017 Posted 22 August 2017 Many here seem to be rating the second half, not the totality. We all got a bit high watching fluid football so sexy, Slim could hardly restrain himself. When we come back down, we can still feel good about the medicine -- the squad needed it. It should go a ways toward loosening up the game plans against less-threatening sides, and providing needed confidence for some guys. That said, as 90 minutes against a sub-heavy Championship side, more of a mixed bag to me. At the half only Maguire, Slim and Ndidi would have been solid 7s or better. Musa would have been a 3 despite his level of effort -- the match thread was a chorus of boos directed his way. By the time the game was secure, he seemed to have played his way into "mascot" status judging from the away end cheers (and this thread). But a Prem squad cannot afford a playing mascot. King's assist was exquisite, but his three giveaways were bad, on short balls in our end, not ambitious passes. I'm not sure this match gave much indication of which squad members could cut it against Manure. But it did highlight a few who should be given some game time in the next few weeks.

Just to add: Not sure what Hamer was doing with their goal. Kicking was poor. Defence were ok but all got caught out a few times. Chillwell was good going forward but is quite naive defensively. Maguire looks a better buy every minute he plays. Ndidi beasted the midfield. Some really positive bits from Gray, great goal and a great assist for Slim. King did a decent job. Musa isn't good enough. Slimani made a really good contribution overall I thought, few really good passes getting the ball out wide. Touch is occasionally off and could have had a third even without the disallowed goal. Ulloa offered very little. Not sure why Shakey set us up the way he did. Ulloa/Slimani was never going to be a productive partnership and I don't really like playing with a makeshift RB and a makeshift CB. A marginally better team could've bagged a few tonight. Whatever Shakes said at half time worked but I think it was individual quality (Gray's goal being the catalyst) that won the game not a tactical game plan.

WigstonWanderer Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 We should discount the first half when several looked pretty rusty. Hardly surprising when they've hardly had any match time. Apart from the obvious ones I thought Amartey looked solid. I'm starting to think that Craig is really trying to convert him into a right back as his main role. Probably explains why we don't seem too bothered about signing anyone in that position. Kingy also had a good match and seemed much more visible than usual. Musa lacks confidence but grew into the game in the second half. Tried hard, quick, and very involved throughout. Despite an unreliable touch I find he's the sort of player that generates excitement. When he's in play there's always a chance that something might happen. I hope he gets more opportunities as I'm sure he will come good eventually.
Fox92 Posted 23 August 2017 Posted 23 August 2017 Hamer 5 - Haven't seen the goal back but from where I was stood looked as if he put it into his own net. His kicking was shocking too. Other than that, not really troubled. Amartey 7 Maguire 7 Fuchs 7 Chilwell 8 - Thought he was superb defending and going forward. Musa 6 - Improved second half which I genuinely think was from us singing for him. NDidi 8 - Looked easy for him. Picking the ball up and driving. Brilliant. King 9 - Bossed it. Gray 8 - Always looked like a threat. Ulloa 5 - Too slow now. Slimani 8 - Well taken goals - should have had three - also never gave up trying. Shakespeare 8 - Everything spot on, comfortably through to the next round and even gave young Knight a go. Sheffield Utd 4 - Never threatened. Thought they were poor. Referee 4 - Card happy.

Won't comment his first touch or his crossing ability. I don't know. He's far away from the bench and even further from the starting XI and he won't get game time any time soon. Loan or sell.
