AjcW Posted 11 October 2017 Share Posted 11 October 2017 Didn't see a thread, wanted to get a conversation going as we seem to have found yet another good young age group! Some of the football England have played in the first two games is really something, Phil Cooper is the manager, previously in charge of the Liverpool academy but nothing else of note. Jadon Sancho who moved from Man City to Dortmund got a Hat Trick in the first game in which we won 4-0 against Chile. We're currently 3-0 against Mexico after an hour with a goal from Man City's Phil Foden (he's been on their bench a few times this season) Sancho has also got a penalty in that one. Providing we can pull these players through in the right way from u17 to u21 the future might be a little brighter! (Just need to ditch the yes man managers!) Coverage on Eurosport 2 for anyone interested
StanSP Posted 11 October 2017 Share Posted 11 October 2017 Watched this as well. Ended up 3-2! Mexico found some belief from somewhere and put England under a lot of pressure. Scored one deflected goal and another good effort. Lainez, Mexico's left winger, was my man of the match. he gave England's right back a torrid time. Brewster's free kick and Sancho's work for Foden's goal was brilliant.
Grantham Fox Posted 11 October 2017 Share Posted 11 October 2017 I've heard nothing but good things about Foden and Sancho, they seem really good.
filbertway Posted 11 October 2017 Share Posted 11 October 2017 As poor as the senior's look, our youths at most levels seem to be doing well in their competitions at the minute. Hopefully this means a higher quality of youth is coming through and we see more English players getting minutes week in week out.

However our youths look very good, won 2 or 3 tournaments last summer and got quite far in another. They're also more exciting to watch.

AjcW Posted 11 October 2017 Author Share Posted 11 October 2017 I think St Georges park has definitely been a good thing, the problem is U21 upwards something switches with the style of play/choice of managers. Also take Sancho for example, he's moved to Germany because he thinks playing for Dortmund's Reserves will give him a chance of first team football sooner than Man City. The 'Potential' team we could take to Qatar (or wherever it is) looks great on paper... whether that translates or not is another thing. You look at Spain and Germany and they get the chance to blood their U21's early into the first team at every opportunity because they play first team club Football... we just don't do that. There wasn't a single regular premier league starter in our U21 squad against Scotland, there were 8 players in the Spain U21 squad playing regular first team football at a high level.... For sure.... they shouldn't HAVE to though. I'd honestly go all out if I was the FA to get Pochettino in charge for 2022 Failing that i'd get him lecturing people doing their badges at St Georges Park on the value of blooding youngsters at the earliest opportunity. If we train new managers to recognise this then the chances are further down the line more English players will get their chance on home soil. StanSP Posted 16 October 2017 Share Posted 16 October 2017 Colombia 0-2 Germany just before HT. Germany's youngsters looking sharp. Colombia have been poor and look a bit nervous.

StanSP Posted 17 October 2017 Share Posted 17 October 2017 bit concerned here for England. Currently 0-0 against Japan but they've missed some glorious, clear-cut chances. One of those where they'll rue them because Japan will score in the 90th minute and win the tie.
