jmono84 Posted 12 October 2017 Posted 12 October 2017 The great escape season I was behind him all the way because I thought we were playin well and a lot of games we could have got something from... until the hull home game where we drew 0-0 and had 5 at the back and don’t think there was a shot on target by either team. That’s when I begrudgingly thought it was time for him to go but after this game he changed formation and we survived! Shakey has got the players playing like Claudio did last season... no pressing and watching teams pass forever, maybe the players can’t do what they did before but I don’t recall our players sitting off teams watching them as much as they currently do whilst under NP.
ozvaldo Posted 13 October 2017 Posted 13 October 2017 Nigel beat a pack of wolves single handedly. He had a hair cut pre-match, at half time and just a quick touch up before hi post-match interviews. He told Ian Stringer that he's a **** several times. He introduced the phrase "delusions of grandeur" to my life. Whenever we won, he'd drive home, tie his wife up, leave her on the glass coffee table whilst he soaked his massive bollox in the outside jacuzzi, before going in to give her a real seeing to. Shakespeare looks like the love child of Augustus Gloop and a ****ing Oompa Loompa. He insists on playing Kingy and, whenever possible, Leo Ulloa. Bring back Nige.
foxinsocks Posted 13 October 2017 Posted 13 October 2017 Once again the current situation demonstrates how some managers just keep on doing the same thing hoping it will come good. I want to see us recognise the problens and change things round to fix them. Right now the squad doesnt allow shakes many options. But i think its his "way too cautious approach" that has to change if we are going to play with verve and win games. See... it's not just the formation or the players.... it's the attitude
Daggers Posted 13 October 2017 Posted 13 October 2017 Imagine Nige and Creg naked. Who has the bigger cock? \thread.

If Pearson struggled with that team, Shakespeare would have taken them down Derby County style. Didn't we end that match with a midfield two of GTF and Hammond? And people moan now at the idea of amartey-king...
DB11 Posted 14 October 2017 Posted 14 October 2017 Even when we lost under Pearson we looked in the game and good. We look boring and uninterested now
Merging Cultures Posted 15 October 2017 Posted 15 October 2017 I think Shakey has had time. He has been at the club for quite a while, he should know the players better than anyone, he should know how to get the best out of them and they should be giving everything for him. Unfortunately, it looks like the team don't know each other and the tactics are all wrong for the type of players we have.Might as well get a fresh face in, one with a good proven history, if the guy who should know the team better than anyone else is doing this poorly.

For vast swathes of the great escape season we looked bloody awful. Similarly when it all fell apart from Feb onwards after we signed Chris Wood it was bad.

The bull-plop on this forum never, ever fails to give me a giggle. During Pearson's Prem season, we never got beat heavily. HOWEVER, lest we forget...we....went....on....the.....longest....run....without....a.....win....in.....the......club's......history........ Even with a side that contained everyone's beloved Esteban Cambiclasso, we had lengthy spells during that season when were we utterly awful. The blue tinted specs for Pearson's Prem season never cease to amaze me.

Well in the Great Escape season I always thought we looked ok and were just waiting for it to click, and damn when it clicked it clicked!

We did always look ok-in fact for a lot of the Great Escape season we were playing delightful football. No one but the anti-NP trolls will argue otherwise. It wasn't effective, but it was often pretty. And when we finished the way we did, it didn't feel like we suddenly played hugely better or differently, just got the results our performances had deserved.

Does that single stat not interest you at all? Surely you're pro Pearson trolling? Off the cuff..Swansea away, Villa in the FA cup..just two games I can think of where we were utter, utter turd.
Corky Posted 15 October 2017 Posted 15 October 2017 It should also be noted that Pearson had an inferior squad and players without Premier League experience. Several players have been in this league for over three years now, Shakespeare has coached them throughout too. It's the fact we played dreadful football last season, have had the chance to change and nothing has which is most frustrating and going against Shakespeare currently.

I have said before, putting Cambiasso aside, I think our midfield back then was better than it is now. We had younger, fitter players in Drinkwater and James who knew how to play well together. King was better then too imo.

I can see they've tried to strengthen midfield. .... but bringing players from oversea to the pl is always a gamble. We failed Ndidi is our single sucess....but he's young and needs to develop. Now we have lost our only mid playmaker... we are going backwards on talent. However a bigger concern is our approach and confidence. ... we have had the opportunity to change but we haven't. we now have to wait for things to get so bad the owners will change it
Great Boos Up Posted 15 October 2017 Posted 15 October 2017 I look at it another way, the only thing that has really changed. Money! We had some money under NP then kept in the league giving us more money. Won the league and went through a Champions league run giving us buckets of money. Players took what they could get, heads were turned, some left, others were tempted by more money or discontented that they couldn't seize the opportunity to match their greed. We spvnked our money away to try and keep the cash cow flowing but everyone is out to grab what they can while it lasts. The root of all evil.
EnglishOxide Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 Shakespeare needs 7 points from the next 12 games, good lineups and good performances to keep his job IMO. We also should be beating Leeds. If he hasn't shown signs of progress before the next international break then he should be gone IMO. I know we are lacking in midfield and its not his fault but he should be adapting to the situation and not depending on Andy King and a still unpolished 20 year old Ndidi in a midfield pair.
Guest Bob Hazels shorts Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 Hope and pray I'm wrong, but I think this will be looked back as a massive error in given a very respected cuddly friend of the players coach his management ' break' in one of the most difficult jobs going. The team virtually needs re building after the heroics drained the best out of reasonable ordinary and/ or aging players. Our style of play has been sussed and needed to change or be more versatile.

That will give us 12 points at the halfway stage......why would he keep his job with that sort of performance, Pearson managed 13 points at the halfway stage in 2014/15 and lost his job.

I genuinely believe that the club, right from the top, don't want to upset the apple cart, so to speak. I think they are still living off the glories of a couple of seasons ago. I did say it's almost like the club stopped on that afternoon we won the league. And I meant it. We need to change. To freshen things up, to have new ideas and dare I say it, new players. But I don't think the club want to.

foxinsocks Posted 16 October 2017 Posted 16 October 2017 I thought earlier posts established the benchmark of 12 points after the stoke game before even the shakey supporters bin him However, for me it is the approach to games that looks too cautious and devoid of any new thinking. WE need to improve with our game plans and out verve. (This could be done now.) I accept that we are stuck with the squad we have for now... though this reflects a wholesale misunderstanding (at board level) for the need for change if we are to progress. With hindsight, appointing shakey showed and ostrich like grasp of the situation. I don't want a relegation scrap as the players and shakey will become even more cowed; but if we do progress up the table it doesn't remove the need for a big rethink
