Poor guy was a manager himself at Oxford, took the number 2, and then Shakey is suddenly gone. He'd rather stick around, but he has a 3-year contract, so I suppose he is paid in any event.
murphy Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 I liked the very first thing he said in the interview: "Today is not all about Michael Appleton..." Eh? Nobody said it was.

I'm sure it was, difficult to imagine what it could be though. 'So Michael was today all about you?' There's no excuse for that kind of David Brent third person referencing though.

I'd imagine that the question was down the lines of 'So Michael, did you make all the difference today?'
Foxxed Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 I wouldn't mind seeing Appleton in a few more matches just in case he's decent. It's a pity we have Leeds and a poor Everton next - no real tests.

Everton, with Koeman, will be desperate to put in a performance - he will need a win to keep his job. If he has gone, whoever is Caretaking will make an impact (Caretakers always do - as with Appleton) - they will be a completely different Everton than the last few weeks.
Foxxed Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 I just read this "One match does not make you a Premier League manager" thing. I'm sure it's not but I can't help but think that's a slight dig a Shakey.

David Hankey Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 I dare say Appleton will be gone once a new manager is installed. Personally, I was surprised by his appointment in the first place with little or no EPL experience.

I'd hate for us to do another Shakey. I still think there's a bad smell around Leicester regarding Ranieri and Shakespeare. I suspect we'll see Appleton prove the team does want to play under another manager and can play well before another is comfortable coming in.
foxy boxing Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 Everyone knows he is a stop gap in charge until the owners get the person they want and he knows this. if the new manager wants him to stick around he might but if they don't then he's off!

I'm hoping for a strong character, an organisator who rules the dressing room and bring the best out of the players. This team underperforms since the title season. Not saying they should be in the top 6 but they should never have to worry about relegation.

Outfox the Fox Posted 23 October 2017 Posted 23 October 2017 If appointed, Claude Puel is likely to keep Appleton on the staff as Joint Assistant Manager, as well as bringing in Pascal Plancque. Plancque worked with Puel in France; but at Southampton, Puel also took on an experienced English Coach, Eric Black.
bald reynard Posted 24 October 2017 Author Posted 24 October 2017 I still think there's a chance we could get Dyche. Everton are (inevitably) sniffing around him now, but the fact that we might have made some contact (with him or Burnley) first, coupled with his apparent desire to relocate where he and his family live (near Kettering), might help us be a preferred destination. If Dyche comes in, there is no way Appleton will be staying - he has always had Ian Woan as his Assistant Manager and Tony Loughlan as First Team Coach (and of course they might prefer a move back to the Midlands ?).

Puel has had 2 interviews, so I think it's a fair bet he'll be the one, when the announcement is made, before the weekend:- http://www.espn.co.uk/football/leicester-city/story/3241637/ex-southampton-boss-claude-puel-lined-up-for-leicester-job-sources With Appleton and Plancque as Joint Assistant Managers?
