I'd say we just edge it. Nah, the lure of their history, London & that stadium, they can give it the hard sell that "with you as manager, we'll be like Spurs" We can't even sign a player we've been after for two years as a replacement for selling our (then) best midfielder for the 2nd successive season We would rank above Burnley, Bournemouth etc... and with the right sell would be a better prospect than WBA & Stoke, but not at WHU, Southampton & Everton levels
bald reynard Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 US - see my post in the 'Appleton MotD Interview - staying a No 2' thread. Dyche has always said he'd like to relocate back to the East Midlands - where he and his family live (near Kettering). He travels up to the Northwest 3 days a week and he is quoted as saying that is not good for family life (and he is a big family man). Everton would involve just as much travelling as Burnley. His wife and kids obviously don't want to move from Northamptonshire (his wife is a Tennis Coach in Northampton and the kids are both at Junior School). His Assistant Manager (Ian Woan) and First Team Coach (Tony Loughlan) could well also want to go back to the East Midlands (both are from the area). All this, coupled with us probably (now) having as big a spending power as Everton - and a much better recent pedigree - could be decisive ?!
Daggers Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Depends if the manager minds returning to his car to find it on bricks?
Kitchandro Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Hate to break it to people but Everton are a bigger club. Their fanbase is a lot bigger than people think and their consistency is a match for anyone. They used to win trophies a lot more regularly but small clubs don't tend to stay in the top division for so long. With their spending power now and some good players already they are a sleeping giant.
Dan Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Everton. Has been the case all bar one summer in my opinion.
Dan Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 I'll say one thing that goes against Everton, and I'm saying this as a Leicester fan, is their home crowd. Now ours isn't great, but theirs is a disgrace. I've never known such an unsupportive set of fans.

You have to take into account league position, money to spend, 'size of clubs' = fanbase, history, and then of course practical things like owners. Here's my opinion of 'league table' the current pull of clubs we compete with, so that people can ridicule and tear my opinion apart: Liverpool Newcastle Everton West Ham Southampton Stoke Leicester Swansea West Brom Villa (theres a reason why Terry went to the Championship) Crystal Palace Leeds Burnley Bournemouth Brighton Derby Huddersfield Forest Not a chance are we below Stoke and I'd have Everton over Newcastle too.
cc_star Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 It's about direction of travel, Everton are a forward away from a cracking team... and while we know we've got a good squad, from the outside it looks like we're doing a Blackburn

See, I disagree on this. they've been in the PL for a long time now, and I think most people now see our win as a one-off sort of thing and that we're lower end fodder as per most of our history. If we'd have followed it up with a solid top 10 finish it would be a different matter. Only reason I have us above Swansea and West Brom is because we're a bigger club in fanbase and potential, you could see either of those clubs going down with the wrong appointment. Although same could be said of us!

They’re in London. Don’t forget that manages have wives/partners

We're as likely to finish 18th as we are 10th WHU, Everton & Southampton are a way better proposition for a manager, especially one who wasn't all about the many pound notes in his wage-packet
Samilktray Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 The fact that Tuchel ruled himself straight out of our job but hasn't done the same for Everton answers this question I reckon

Do take the point entirely about us being a bit of a bombscare though.

Max Wall Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Everton. Before I get pilloried. My reasoning is because we recently won the league and they have done feck all for years and therefore similar performances by both teams (under the same manager) would see most neutrals consider him to have done better with Everton than us. I think that will be more appealing, which was the basis of the OP rather than who's bigger. Having said that, it's also obvious that historically they are obviously a bigger club than us too. I know some will argue regarding which is the more attractive proposition but that's the way I see it. Managers ruling themselves out of our job but staying schtum with regards to the Everton position would suggest the same.

Wizerud Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 I'd put us, Stoke, Southampton and WBA in the same general vicinity. At this point we are splitting hairs. We're in that 8-12 group behind West Ham and Everton.
4everfox Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 If you're a football manager who enjoys the prospect of managing a club that hasn't won a trophy in donkeys years, is vastly overrated, and play their home games in a cattle shed like structure, then Everton will be the choice. If you're a football manager who enjoys the prospect of managing a club that is the opposite to what is described above then Leicester will be the choice.
urban.spaceman Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 Everton: Consistent top 10 side with Europa League every other year. Lopsided squad without a recognised striker Building a new stadium in a couple of years which will impact on transfer budget. Last silverware: 22 years ago. Leicester City: Strong squad with owners with deep pockets willing to use recent big prize money on transfers. Taste of Champions League football that just won't go away. Last silverware: 2 years ago. Silverware since Everton's last trophy: 6. Got to be Leicester.
midland_red Posted 24 October 2017 Posted 24 October 2017 The old question - what makes a big club??? Winning the Prem in itself doesn’t do it even though its something achieved by only five other clubs. Most people would consider Newcastle to be a bigger club than us even though they haven’t won anything important since, I think, 1955. Based on history and tradition most people would consider Everton to be the bigger - and theretofore more attractive - club by some distance. Sadly.
