Red Cow in Harborough looked really busy when I drove by earlier. Mad to think it's not that long ago a consortium involving my mate's dad had to step in to save it.

Sounds like two tailed lion is struggling. They need to keep their staff otherwise they’re done.

This is a real shame, great place. What do you mean by "they need to keep their staff" though?

As in the current staff are really good and lot of people go in because of them!

I was in there. Seemed to be a lot from out of town in there. Quite a few in for the rugby too.

Any particular reason why it's so popular now? Can't quite put my finger on why as it ticks a lot of boxes for me, but was never a place I spent a lot of time in before I had to move away.

It always has sport on, live music on a Saturday possibly helps & the prices aren't too bad, obviously not as cheap as The Sugarloaf or Nags Head, but much cheaper than The Three Swans, across the road.

Yeah, cask stuff was the only thing in the Swans that was vaguely reasonably priced last time I went in.

Will pop in the Cow next time I'm down for a beer.

Knight and Garter closing. Hopefully it reverts back to being a good pub rather than an expensive restaurant hybrid.

I doubt it seeing as it couldn't cover the rates.

Another nice place not able to continue in the city.

Oh and it wasn't a good pub before, it was a bit of a shit hole when I went in

I think its had a mixed history but certainly been a better pub before than the current strange hybrid of restaurant/pub that got so confused it started to identify as Italian.

But you’re definitely right that all pubs will struggle in these existing times.

Shame. I've enjoyed the bar and the restaurant in the past. Tho the restaurant seemed always too keen to have everybody out by 9pm.

I find the owner, Sam Haggar, a slightly odd fella. The Forge at Glenfield I've visited for the last few years. Never ever seen him talk to a punter. Always chatting, but always to the staff. And that's reflected with the staff. They too seem to keep a cold distance from the punters.

It needs help with green dragon square as well. They could have an external vibe like Wyggeston, but the square is really dull, full of 9.99 marquees selling cannabis grinders and the pub is laid out wrong as that is the 'back' of the pub.

As climate change is here our pubs need more outdoor seating and venues but the council don't seem to recognise that. They are still trying to find a place for a container mall as they were popular 8-9 years ago.

It was much better when Dave Lee Roth ran it.

Foresters looks to be doing well but good grief they love their ChatGPT posters don't they, Instagram grid barely has any photos of the actual pub

Nearly all the local pubs near me are using AI posters for whatever they’ve got going on that weekend. I get it’s easy for them to make a tidy looking poster but if anything it puts me off more than tempts me in.
